Welcome to the forum.

The BASC facilities are very new and really are insufficient at this time to conduct any tactical/practical/defensive type competition.

As a rabble rouser myself (and avid IDPA competitor), I believe there is plenty of support from the general members and even some of the board for the idea. There are currently excellent IDPA matchs being held on North side (Thunder Tactical Shooters), West side (West Houston IDPA) and South (Pearland Shooting Club IDPA) with 3 gun active at West Houston and Carbine at Thunder. We are in the correct Geographic location to complete the Greater Houston Metro area for practical matches.

I believe we will eventually add what we need but it will require working with the board and waiting our turn for construction priorities (the Long Range and the Shotgun range will and should come first)

Barring a White Knight with a pot of gold, I don't see us being able to put in enough bays for a match this year (and maybe not next year either) but I and others are doing our best to promote this goal. With the right "Tactical Bays" we can get IDPA, USPSA, Steel Challenge, and even Cowboy matches going.

If I may ask, do you currently compete at some other range? If so what kind of match?

reasonable gun control is .75 MOA

I think that the facilities are fine for putting on a match .
Pistol, carbine, shotgun or all 3. Other ranges do it with 1 (ONE)
bay and do a fine job . The biggest problem is the BOD, who are stuck in the "We only need to shoot from the Bench mentality" or at least the ones I have talked to.
Just to put in a plug for the other shooting group in the Houston area, as an avid USPSA shooter there are matches every weekend (Fri and Sat) in the Houston area, three gun is usually on the 5th sat of a month, so only 4 or 5 a year.
The website is texassouthsection.com, and the rules are not as restictive and IMO more fun than IDPA.
Even if the board approved a match , the participants must be members or guests.
We, The Club/range members, are missing out on a huge revenue source by not having matches.

Once a month or so a few freinds do get together and set up targets and 8" plates on the pistol bay and play with 22's and pistols, ringing the steel as fast as we can , but thats about all happens in as to having an actual match.

Piper that's not entirely correct. The BOD will and would support matches as long as we do not have to close down a total facility to the use of members. We do not have that capability YET. Piper there have been exceptions and changes to the rules specifically to make it better for the type of shooting you do. The BOD has come quite a way in the last couple of years and are working on making things easier on, for lack of the correct word, "combat style shooters". It has not come fast but we are a young club and we are learning.

This also is not quite correct we have a mechanism in the "revised" By-laws that will allow us to have non members at the range for special functions and a match would certainly qualify. In defense of Piper I will say that he had no way of knowing this as the Revised By-laws have not been posted yet.

A White Knight would be great, but Jeremae is correct if we have enough members promote this goal we, together, will reach it. And I think it will be wonderfull for our club.

Some may dis-agree and that's fine, we all have opinions, but our club is not about revenue. Our club is about providing our membership a place to shoot. Granted that does take revenue but I don't want to see us look to creating revenue at the "expense" of our members.
