Why does the bore of my .270 Win. copper up so fast? When I say fast I mean like 10 rounds.

Usually this is caused by a rough bore. Is it fouled enough to cause innaccuracy? That would be incredibly fast ( 10 shots ).

Yes, a rough bore. A good working with JB may help. I think you know where to get the stuff.

It doesn't feel rough, like a Savage. I think I already used "the stuff" on it once Ken. It may come to that again, rather use KG-12 if you got it yet.
"They" say that the Tikka's have Sako barrels, what ever that's worth.
Gonna try some different bullets after I de-copper.

I have the KG12. I had it at the range Sunday...but no Dave. Send me an email with your tag number on your truck and I will set it in the bed today. The jb is an abrasive and will help smooth out some of the sharp edges.

I just may have learned something! I thought Tikka was a economy version of Sako, made by Sako!

You are correct Mr. Vern.
I can't remember where, but I read that the barrels are the same.
Makes sense from a manufacturing standpoint.

Well, how clean is the barrel to start with, is it clean?

I brush, then 3 or 4 patches ( I usually flip my patches over so it's really like 6 or 8), all saturated with Butch's.
I repeat this 2 or 3 times. I do this with all of my rifles.

Dave I’m not trying to change your mind on bore cleaner but I did a little test a while back.

For years Sweet’s 7.62 has been my go to cleaner. Tried something different a while back. After a rather long range day I get home and start cleaning with Kroil Oil. Liberally wet the bore and brushed the snot of it, let it sit for about an hour and start over and started patching. Lots of really yucky black stuff. Then I do a repeat. After the patches start coming out pretty clean I switch to Sweets. Let that sit for about 30 min and brush. Patches showed no green and very little in color! Kroil as you know is primarily a penetrating oil. I have just about convinced myself that stuff gets under crud and causes it to turn loose. But then I could be living in a world of delusion.

May not be enough Dave, What kind of rifle is that, is that the Tikka?
When I've a barrel like that now I used a Remington paste, I don't keep it in my range box, if you like to try it let me know.

I finally linked up with Ken and got some KG-12. Man that stuff works great.
5 patches got 95% of the copper out.
I have heard good things about Kroil Mr. Vern, and the Rem. paste G.
I may have to use stuff like that for this particular bore. Yeah G., it's the Tikka.

Think I will stay with the Butches. It got out a lot of gunk out of the bores.Just had to let it set a bit.(about 5 minutes)and add brushing to my cleaning chores.

I use the FG-12 on the facory barrels. My 416 Rigby fouls like a summitch and KG-12 does a number on it.

I'd prolly get tennis elbow trying to scrub that copper out with Butche's.....

I have read on other forums that another copper remover is out there that is better than KG-12, called Warthog. I am just a big enough catfish to bite but it will be a while. I still have 1 and 1/2 bottle of KG-12 left.

Well I’m gonna do it again and show my ignerts! What the devil is KG-12? I have heard it mentioned before but have no knowledge of the stuff. Anything like JB? I just purchased a bore scope and have to say I’m impressed with the results of my cleaning process, but anything that would cut back on brush strokes, I’d be interested in!

I think Butche's works great on "better", "smoother" barrels. But KG-12 is the easiest.

KG-12 is a liquid in a bottle, like all the rest squirt it on a patch scrub it in then dry patch it out after a minute.

He has been touting JB Bore Clean and them little felt pellet thingies which I have, but haven’t tried as of yet.

I tried some of them little felt pellet thingies on the subject rifle, with JB.
I don't know if it helped or not. It's a pretty cool concept though, it has to be better than wrapping a patch around a wore out brush, which I also tried.

“That’s what friends are for”.

Yea, ya got to excuse him, he is Cajun!

Here is something to ponder:
No. Nyet, Verboten! Never run a stainless brush down a barrel. BS! I say again, BS! After I got my bore scope I got to looking at some of the bores on various rifles just for grins and giggles. I have a RR-LAR-8 A4 in .308 w/ stainless barrel. Granted the shooter only has around 5-800 rounds through it. It has been cleaned after each shooting event which entails some 50 rounds. I would estimate that over 80% has been done with a stainless brush. I’m looking down the barrel of this thing and low and behold, not a mark of any nature. No scratches, not even any appearance of abrasion. In fact the bore is bright and shiny as if it has been lapped. Edges of lands are sharp and crisp. What do you want to bet that the barrel would be shot out before the stainless brush had any effect? I come away with two thoughts. More hyperbole by nay sayers shot down and bore scopes are the greatest thing since baked bread.

Oh! To add. You buncha chikin thieves leave Dave alone. Nothin wrong with washing the felt pellets. It lets them swell up again. A little brake cleaner and they be as good as new.
