Although it's not quite finished, we broke it in yesterday.
I really like the design of this one. It has a strip of trees/ brush running full length on the North side. Now we have shade in the summer and a wind break in the winter.
It has my official seal of approval.
Thanks Jim.

The trees can make for some interesting targets. We had a great time. You still need some practice.

Lot's of fun. We are gonna really enjoy this.

It really should beat our old shotgun area hands down! It already is looking like it will drain better. There is SHADE!

And I am pretty sure when we get it "tweaked" all the way it's gonna be NEAT!

By the way........Anders missed the first clay thrown on the new range.......................

Has there been any discussions regarding building infrastructure for shotgun sports. ie Trap, Skeet, Sporting Clays?

Would love to shoot more of these games. I do not know of any place nearby.

Lots of discussion actually.........

There are a whole bunch of costs associated with traps, power and such.

Maintaining traps is VERY expensive and they break constantly with very much use.

The reason there are so very few of these clay ranges is because they are so expensive to setup and maintain.

Have you checked membership prices at some of the clay bird ranges? And costs of a round of clays? I don't think even with the HIGH costs of Membership and cost per round that many clay ranges are making much. And several have gone under in the last few years.

I shot competative skeet years ago at Greater Houston, it was expensive and they still had to shut down for a few years until a new owner brought them back.......check out their membership prices.

I shot pretty serious Sporting Clays at Champion lakes UNTIL they went broke and had to shut down...........

Then I got a membership at American for sporting Clays, which if I remeber correctly was $250.00 per year and all that did was give me a discount on a round of clays still something like $30.00 for a round of 100. And American is subsidized by Harris County.

There is a reason there are not too many "Clay" ranges around....the economics are very tough.

So to answer your question. Yes there has been discussion and the BOD has done budgets and studies but we can't really justify any type of formal clays for BASC.

BUT........you can purchase your own battery powered traps and set them up and use them on our informal shotgun area and have a ball. That's what we and several other members have done. Hand throwers too.
