Posted October 6th, 2011 05:45 PM IP A blond boy stood in the middle of a large room, his head bowed and his hair falling into his eyes as a tall man stood before him, his eyes narrowed dangerously and the boy knew he was really in trouble. He wondered if he was even going to live through the last month of summer before he had to go back to school. God did he whish he could speed up time….
“You had better not fail this year” the man hissed near his ear in a tone the teen knew spelled doom and disaster “you will make sure that you will be on top of you class this year, that filthy mudblood had better not best you this year” the man warned and the boy nodded ever so slightly “yes father…” he whispered his head still bowed "And you had better not waste any time in finishing the task our lord has set you” the man said icily as he punched the boy in the face, following that up with a punch in the blonds stomach his cane now hitting his son’s back knocking him to his knees. The boy clenched his jaw. He absolutely hated this. Being degraded and humiliated like this, but his face, as always, was a perfect blank mask and remained inmpassive. His father grabbed him by the arm yanking him up to his feet spinning him around, pushing him to the floor once again. A wand appeared from the guy’s cane and a soft Crucio sounded through the air and the young blond heir grit his teeth as to not cry out in pain. That would only make things worse and make his father even more furious. When he was finally done with the torture spell before the elder male simply kicked the boy now crumpled on the floor in the chest “you better make it happen” he hissed warningly as he stepped over the lithe form of his son leaving the room.
Listening to fading footsteps he allowed himself a groan as he pushed himself from the floor. Oh this summer had so not turned out the way he had planned. His father had been taken to Azkaban at the end of last year, but someone like Lucius Malfoy was not to be detained for long and he had bribed and cheated his way out of the wizarding prison a few weeks later. It had been the best few weeks of his life, but they had passed oh so quickly. Then he had been taken to the 'dark lord' and he had been forced to take the dark mark. Most of his fellow students thought he was jumping for the chance to step into his father's footsteps... it was only Snape and his mother that knew him well enough to know the truth. What could he say? He had turned out to be one hell of an actor. The blonde slowly made his way up to his chambers where he let himself fall onto his bed. He stared up at the ceiling just wishing he would be able to complete his mission. Not so much for his own sake - his fate was sealed either way - but his mother's. He sighed counting the days before he'd be able to leave for school.
When finally September rolled along he stepped onto the train, his old, arrogant conceited self. He had a reputation to uphold anyway. When he lay in Pansy's lap - insert grimace here - something caught his attention though and when they finally arrived at the station near Hogwarts he told his friends to go on ahead without him. The young heir turned slightly "Didn't mommy ever tell you it is rude to eavesdrop Potter?" he sneered as the blonde raised his wand hissing a "Petrificus totalus" leaving his lips and the sound of a body hitting the floor could be heard. He moved over taking of the invisibility cloak. "Oh yeah, she was dead before you could wipe the drool of your chin" he then stomped on the boys face "That for my father..." he added even if, quite frankly he really didn't care about his father, but knew it had to be to keep up appearances "Enjoy your ride back to London" he snarled putting the invisibility cloak back over the still frame of the raven-haired before he left the compartment. and making his way to the castle where he sat down at the table for his house and waited for the feast to end. He didn't touch his foot just staring ahead blankly his head rested on his hamd. Aftre the feast he simply left the castle and sat down near the lake deep in thought... "I laugh in the face of danger, then I run and hide till it goes away" "It peed on my shirt... took my shirt out of the bad and peed on it...! And you say this isn't personal! "Yeah, yeah, I get it, you're evil... do we have to talk about it all day?"{Genre: Friendship}{Gend: Female_or_Male}

Posted October 7th, 2011 03:21 AM IP Summer wasn't quite the same for Luna this year. Of course, everyone else was having a horrid summer as well, with the changes all around, in the wizarding and Muggle worlds. Even the Muggles seemed to notice it on an instinctive level, their heads ducked down as they walked, avoiding any stranger's gaze. The weather reflected the mood, or perhaps caused it. The days were cloudy, hazy, damp, with an unusual chill for summer. Because of the changes, Luna's father was working overtime on The Quibbler, publishing articles containing theories from the return of Voldemort to a plague of Wrackspurts. Oddly enough, the readership seemed more inclined to accept a plague than the possible return of You-Know-Who. This meant that Luna's long awaited trip to search for the Crumple Horned Snorkack had to be put off. For once, Luna was mildly concerned. After all, when her father, who took life little more seriously than herself was worried, then she was too. Frankly, as frightening as a plague of Wrackspurts could be, she hoped it was that, rather than the Dark Lord.
The trip to Diagon Alley to buy schoolbooks and supplies was not the same as in years past. The witches and wizards were acting much the same as the Muggles she had seen. There was an air of nervousness all around. And she was sure she had spotted a Dementor in the shadows on more than one occasion. Usually one to browse the shops, dawdle along, and take all day, this time Luna finished in record time. For her, at least. People who saw her probably still thought she was floating in her own haze of a world, unconcerned with everything going on around her. But she wasn't stupid. Ravenclaw, see? When she finished her shopping, she was disappointed to see that Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour was closed. Since her first year at Hogwarts, it had been a custom of hers to stop and get an ice cream there before returning home. Deep in thought, she wandered her way back to the empty Leaky Cauldron, then home from there.
September arrived and things seemed almost normal as she boarded the train. The same sniggers and giggles as she passed, people closing the doors in the compartments as she looked for a place to sit. Finally she found a seat with Neville and settled with her Quibbler. When she felt someone sit next to her, she was surprised to see Harry had joined them. It was almost like she had friends now; the thought made her smile. The routine of the ride was comforting, though it was disappointing when Harry and Neville went to join Professor Slughorn for tea. When the train arrived at Hogwarts, she didn't see Harry anywhere, but figured someone as famous as him didn't have time to be seen with her once they were at school. The feast was the same as every year, Luna sitting at one end of the table with a few seats empty around her, as though her Loony-ness was catching. Unperturbed, she buried herself behind her newspaper as she ate. Once the feast was over, she wandered off on her own...
To anyone sitting outside at the lake, it might have looked as though Luna simply appeared. Not there one moment, there the next. She often seemed to do that, popping up here or there for no conceivable reason at all. It was one of the things that many people couldn't stand about her, along with her habit of not blinking for minutes on end. When she saw Draco sitting near the water, her feet carried her that direction. There was no thought involved, she simply followed where they led. She sat down some distance away, not intending to talk to him at all. After all, he and Harry were enemies. Yet she wasn't so far that she would have to shout, if she had wanted to talk. After a few moments spent tickling the squids tentacles, she glanced over at the blonde haired boy. He was deep in thought, and either hadn't noticed her or was ignoring her. He also had a dark bruise on his face and a black eye.
"Lumpclot?" she asked. {loc: Luna Lovegood}{gen: Semi-Serious}{Gend: Female_or_Male}{Genre: Everything}

Posted October 8th, 2011 04:54 PM IP His thoughts travelled back to the past summer as he sat outside in the grass undeterred by the chill. It wasn’t as if he wasn’t used to it after all. This whole summer had seemed colder and darker than normal, as if the earth was aware of what was in store. The youngster could only hope he had done enough to ensure his mother’s safety until he would return for Christmas. Not wanting to think about that any longer he simply shook his head clear from any thoughts as he stared out over the rippling dark water. The lake sat on the grounds of his sanctuary had to be one of his most favourite places. The manor had never really been a home and so he rarely referred to it as suck. It was a house, immense and impressive yes, but no home. It wasn’t as if it even really mattered anymore. He would not be back here after he finished his ‘mission’.
Oh no, the young heir was well aware that his fate was sealed. If he were to fail on his assignment his father and Voldemort were sure to kill him, after a lot of torture and suffering. Were he to succeed the Order would be after him and kill him. He just didn’t care anymore, he really didn’t. he had often wished for his father to take it that one step too far and get things over with already, but of course, that would mean doing his son a favour , and that was something that just couldn’t happen now could it? He smirked slightly to himself as he ran a hand through his hair brushing it from his eyes. The boy had of course always known what was expected of him and that he was to follow in his father’s footsteps at some point and now apparently that time had come. Over the summer his father had forced him to accompany him on some death-eater outings.
Over the summer the heir to the Malfoy fortune had seen things he wished he could just forget. That of course was not going to happen. He never had a choice though. Never had it matter what he actually wished for or wanted. His whole life had been planned out for him and any form or resistance, fight or rebellion he may have at one time possessed had been beaten out of him years ago. For now though he just enjoyed his time alone. The summer really had taken it out of him and he was just exhausted even though he was unable to get a decent night sleep. He had started using the dreamless sleep potion more and more often. He had received more than his fair share of concerned glances from his head of house.
He really couldn’t care less about the dangers behind that potion though and had just not bothered. He stretched his aching and tired body for a moment before he stared up at the night-sky watching all the twinkling lights of the stars far above. He closed his eyes for a moment enjoying the silence surrounding him. This was what he enjoyed most. Just sitting here in silence and staring out over the water. He didn’t even so much as glance up when someone joined him at the lake. He really wasn’t in the mood for company or small-talk for that matter. He directed his gaze back to the black waters of the lake knowing he needed to work something out and fast. He couldn’t fail, not this time. His mother should not have to suffer for his inadequacies even though she had insisted that this had been the path she had wanted for her son.
Someone spoke from beside him and he frowned slightly as he finally turned his head towards the sound. It was that strange raven-claw girl a year below his. Wasn’t she friends with that Potter and his little fan-club? Hadn’t his father mentioned she had been there at the ministry last year when Potter and co had caused his father to fail in obtaining the prophecy and had caused the Malfoy patriarch to be arrested? He narrowed his eyes slightly wondering why she had even spoken was beyond him. He had been so deep in thought that he had not noticed his concealment charm that he had over his body to hide the bruises, cuts, burns and scars had started to fade and he had not quite caught what she had said “What was that?” he asked his voice cold as usual.
"I laugh in the face of danger, then I run and hide till it goes away" "It peed on my shirt... took my shirt out of the bad and peed on it...! And you say this isn't personal! "Yeah, yeah, I get it, you're evil... do we have to talk about it all day?"{Genre: Friendship}{Gend: Female_or_Male}

Posted October 9th, 2011 08:33 AM IP Luna was much more perceptive than any of her peers. Perhaps it came from so much time spent alone, deep in thought herself. Or from being the butt of so many jokes, nobody understanding her, or even trying to. This was her fifth year at Hogwarts, yet she had barely a handful of friends and those only because of the DA. She hoped the meetings would continue this year. It was the closest she'd ever come to having friends. So the one person who could possibly understand and identify with Draco on some level was Loony Lovegood. Unlike the other students, she didn't judge. She avoided him when he was obviously going to be mean, yes, but she didn't think that meant he was truly a horrible person. Perhaps that was his way of seeming stronger than he was. That was why there was a hint of concern in her normally dreamy voice.
"Lumpclot."
She didn't want to point, that was rude.
"On your face."
The way she said this implied that of course everyone knew what lumpclots were, not just Luna.
"You should see Madame Pomphrey or they'll spread. Then you'll look banged up all over." She nodded her head matter of factly. "They tend to lurk around places like lakes and such, on the rocks especially. Most people will blame it on running into a door or something, but that's just silly. Who does that?"
It didn't cross her mind that Harry and the others would be mad at her for talking to Draco. She thought everyone deserved a chance. It wasn't his fault his father was in line with You-Know-Who. The blonde haired boy might be a decent person. If you could get past his bullying and stuff.
For possibly the first time since she'd spoken, Luna blinked. Turning back to the squid, she continued playing with it. If anyone was looking closely, it appeared to be a game of tic-tac-toe in the dirt. Though how the squid could possibly do that, only Luna would know. {loc: Luna Lovegood}{gen: Semi-Serious}{Gend: Female_or_Male}{Genre: Everything}

Posted October 11th, 2011 11:19 AM IP What on earth was this girl even doing talking to him? Wasn’t she friends with that blasted golden trio? He knew the girl was known for her craziness. He knew he had even given her a tough time over the years, but really, he had never spoken with her much. He turned his towards her slightly as she repeated herself “Lumpclot?” he asked confused “Whatever are you talking about?” he asked with a slight narrowing of his eyes. When she a few moments later explained herself and mentioned madame Pomfrey something clicked. How on earth could he have been so foolish as to not redo his concealment charm in time? He closed his eyes for a moment redoing the charm so everything would be hidden again “It is none of your concern” his voice came harsher than he might have intended. He frowned as he was warned of ‘them spreading’. He gave a slight snort “Right then… I’ll be certain to keep that in mind” he responded with a roll of his eyes.
Draco just had to try and find a better concealment charm to make sure slip ups such as this would not happen again. He couldn’t afford any question even though… really, who would care? He had really done a good job in alienating himself from the rest of the students. They either didn’t care, or hated his guts. Oh yes, he had played his part of the spoilt little rich kid well. It was only Snape who possibly knew a hint of the truth. He just hoped he could keep his head of house off his back for a little bit longer… at least until he had completed his task. He wasn’t too certain on how he was going to pull this off just yet, but he was well aware failure was not an option. He couldn’t allow his mother to have to pay for his incompetence.
He watched the girl play with the squid before turning back to staring out over the water. He wasn’t really in the mood for this. He had come out here to try and be alone. Then again, he supposed, if anyone should come out to bother him, it might as well be this girl. She had never really bothered him before. The young heir closed his eyes for a moment trying to get the throbbing in his head to subside. He would just need a few days to recuperate, even if his ribs would need more time to heal. The Slytherin had not been able to heal his injuries magically, as his father had some kind of spell on him that would prevent him from doing so. Wouldn’t want to make things too easy for his son now would he?

Posted October 11th, 2011 01:28 PM IP Luna heard the sharp tone to his voice, but shrugged that off as typical Draco. Actually, it was mild for the Slytherin, if she paused to think about it.
"I know it's not. Just thought I'd mention it. It's nothing to be embarrassed about."
As she glanced his way, she saw the bruises had disappeared.
"You're lucky, anyway. Something must have spooked them; they're gone now."
Quickly she conjured up a hand mirror to be sure they hadn't somehow attached themselves to her face. Nope, all clear. When she was sure they weren't lurking about waiting to attack her, she banished the mirror. As the squid splashed for her attention, she had the feeling she was being watched. When she looked over at Draco though, he was staring out over the water again. She saw him close his eyes and wondered...
"Are you alright?"
Nothing weird this time, just concern. {loc: Luna Lovegood}{gen: Semi-Serious}{Gend: Female_or_Male}{Genre: Everything}

Posted October 14th, 2011 03:35 PM IP This had really been the last thing he had needed. He had never been one for company really which was why he had chosen to surround himself with blubbering idiots. They were easy to control and meant he never really had to get personal. How thank heavens for Slytherin. He glanced over as the girl’s voice cut through the air again. He raised an eyebrow at her “Ah yes, thanks ever so much” he smirked slight sarcasm in his flat tone. What was this girl’s problem? What was it so hard for most people to just mind their own business? It was just something he could never quite figure out. He shrugged this thought off though as he shook his head.
“Right…” he rolled his eyes slightly. This girl’s brain was just ever so strange. He wondered if she truly believed the utter foolishness that sometimes came out of her mouth… Lumpclots? Where did she even come up with that stuff? It was nothing more than a few bruises. Ah well, this girl’s psychiatric status was none of his concern though as he stared back out over the water.
“Fine” he replied voice once more flat. He just couldn’t be bothered with his usual bravado and façade. He was just too tired and in too much pain to really care.
