.:Overall Forum Rules:.
|
|
|
|
These are the basic rules of this forum. Abide by them at all times.
1 - Have respect for all members on the forum.
This means respect your Administrators, Global Moderators, Moderators and even fellow members. This also applies to 'n00bs' (new members). Don't go around harassing them for every little mistake they make. You were once a new member at one point. If they are in the wrong, link them over to the rules - let them learn from their mistakes.
Specifically when it comes to staff...you can dislike the members of staff, you can disagree with them, but regardless of how you feel, you must respect them and their decisions. No matter what happens, everything comes down to what they do, and so if you have problems, take it up privately. Show respect for us, and we ultimately will show respect for you. On that subject, if you want to talk to a staff member, please, come correctly. By this, I mean don't use an insulting tone or be 'needy'. If you phrase something in the best way possible, we will be inclined to listen more.
2 - Use a non provocative tone when requesting or debating.
It is damn easy for a little debate or a request to turn into a huge flamefest. So take caution with your words, and be sure that what you say doesn't offend, but still has the intent of what you want (meaning that you have a certain degree of free speech, but you mustn't use said freedom to be insulting). By the term request, we aren't just meaning sprites - if you wish to see a change in the forum, or even need to discuss an important forum issue as well.
3 - Know the boards, and where to submit certain content.
If you know that a Dragonball AF Sprite should be submitted in 'Dragonball AF Sprites', but you still submit it to 'Dragonball Z Sprites', you accomplish nothing. You run the risk of your thread being locked (only if the content is deemed inappropriate), or simply moved to the correct section (which is a waste of time if you knew exactly where to put it in the first place).
4 - Flaming and trolling are strictly prohibited.
This also includes when a situation goes wrong. Instead of attacking the member, report them using the Staff Noticeboard. If you choose to join in, you are at the risk of being sanctioned.
5 - Posting illegal content is 100% prohibited.
You should have a full understanding of what is legal to post and what isn't. So no links to cracks, porn, illegal download sites for movies, roms, etc....
6 - When requesting, use descriptive titles.
'....', 'help', 'I need something!' and '?' are not descriptive.
7 - Make your posts helpful.
Posts that simply quote and don't explain, posts that are spam (ie: one worded posts, such as ""huh", "yes", "why", "..." etc...) and distasteful posts will result in verbal warnings and potential sanctions being dealt. Also, in help topics - actually provide help or do not post at all. [Please note: Spam also includes making irrelevant posts to a topic and simply quoting somebody or a previous post without you saying actually something.].
8 - Sprites....Theft, and Criticism.
We have a lot to say about this. Sprites are the meat of DBZ Vortex, and so we are pretty close with them. We treat them as artwork, and as such, we give them the respect that we would give to other drawings. If you use somebody else's work in any way, shape or form to contribute or make your own piece of 'art', then credit the person(s). Stealing is not tolerated on this board. On the critiquing aspect, do not whine if your work gets a low score. That is just life. Learn from your mistakes and move on.Also, do not simply say 'it sucks'. It isn't helpful. Neither is just saying 'sheet it' or 'its good'. This forum wants to promote useful C+C. How will a spriter know what to improve on in a sprite if you simply call it 'ok', or say 'it sucks'?
9 - Do not make topics to bitch about personal issues.
Sure, you may ask for other's opinion on the case, but do not use this forum to complain about your life problems. In addition, do not make threads to bitch about other members. Any complains you have about any member on the board, regardless of their rank, should be taken outside of the forum.
10 - Do not post in 1 month old topics.
(Unless you are the author of the topic) This is called 'gravedigging'. Doing this will get you warned, or sanctioned. You are only excempt from a sanction if this is an important forum issue that hasn't been solved or answered (and the level of importance is decided by the staff member who deals with that particular 'gravedig').
11 - Always credit others if you use their work.
If you've used somebody else sprite in order to make your own, do not go and lie about it. It is just stupid and makes stupid topics. You lose respect from other members and gain nothing. On the flip side, do not bitch and cry if you aren't credited on work you've done. Simply ask for credit, and if in doubt, refer to the Sprite Theft System.
12 - Do not utilize multiple accounts without permission of an Administrator.
If you are caught, your IP address will be banned. Also, be sure that your excuse for creating another account is valid, and do not create multiple accounts for the sheer purpose of rule-breaking (this includes breaking this rule as well - creating accounts for the sake of creating accounts). Do not create an account with the name of a forum member in it (especially if used to be hurtful or parady them) - ie: '[insertusername]sucksmydick', '[insertusername]lover', '[insertusername]-2'. And do not access the forum with a Proxy.
13 - Use the Welcome/Goodbye board, and only said board for introducing yourself and saying your goodbyes.
You have no reason to try and be more special than other members by creating an 'I'm leaving' thread in any other section. The goodbye board was made for a reason, so use it. The same goes for the Welcome Board.
14 - Language - be cautious of how you use it, and type properly (meaning no MSN or AIM talk).
Unless it is intended for humorous effect (and is appropriate to the moment), then do not use it. Remember, there are some people on the forum who don't actually understand that form of speech.......(also, if you are unaware of some words on the forum and their meanings, please direct yourself do the Forum Lingo page). And in case you were wondering, swearing is ok here, but in moderation. If it becomes excessive, you will be verbally warned. Use of racial slurs to be hurtful will not be tolerated, however.
15 - No mini-modding - Do not take the Staff's job into your own hands.
If someone breaks an obvious rule, just report them (see procedures for reporting, below). There is no need to scold the member. He/she'll get a Private Message with a warning from a Moderator. It's what they're here for.
16 - Common Sense. This applies at ALL times.
Now this point also ties in with the respect of staff - there are clearly some circumstances that not covered within the basic set of rules that we at the Vortex have laid out. This doesn't mean that those particular circumstances are 'not against the rules' - we use common sense and good judgement to make our decisions when dealing with what we see as inappropriate conduct. So just because something isn't stated in the rules does not mean you can't be punished for it. This rules list would be miles long if we had to cover every single damned thing, ok? We aren't victimising you by doing this - we are simply doing our jobs.
17 - Do not use DBZ Vortex as a method of leeching an audience to your forum/site.
External links to in appropriate threads are fine (eg: to an appropriate Youtube video), as well as linking using the homepage (www) button and in your signature, but other forms of self promotion (or even on the behalf of others) are prohibited.
• Procedures for Reporting:
Should you find a post in which a user violates any of the rules on the forum, and wish to report them for so, take these steps. First, if you suspect the user may end up editing or erasing their post to avoid punishment, take a screenshot of this post (can be done with the Print Screen key, right next to the scroll lock. Push and then paste in paint or otherwise). Then, you can either decide to create a topic in the Staff Notification area, or to send a PM. Something in the Staff Notif. area will be seen by everybody, thus a better option if additional views and opinions are needed. If there is no such need, send a PM to a corresponding staff member. That is either a moderator of the section in which the infraction occurred, a global moderator, or administrator. Whichever means you use, be sure to include a link to the topic's page, as well as a less-than-ambiguous description of what the person has done and WHO it is.
----------
Should members do anything that goes against the rules shown above, or shows actions that are generally not accepted, their status changes. After you make your first post, your status is shown as Normal in the Mini Profile (seen with each post that you make). It can change to Warning Level 1, Warning Level 2 or Banned. So 3 strikes, and you are outta here.
- Verbal Warning: Normally phrased with 'I'm warning you' or 'This is a verbal warning'. You haven't had anything added to your Warning Level at this point. This is used for minor offences (first or second time double posting, an off-topic post, or any offence that doesn't seem serious enough to deem a Warning Level). However, if you do not co-operate after being Verbally Warned, or you are the type who will not react to being verbally warned, you will be sanctioned more severely (see Warning LV1).
- Warning Level 1: For a slightly more serious offence, or failure to 'clean up your act' after a verbal warning (examples: repeated double posting, spamming/useless posts, being a pain to other members, failure to credit members with sprites). Your status will change to Warning Level 1 and will remain like that for approximately 1 month. After the month is over, and you do another LV1 worthy offence, you are subject to be bumped up to Warning Level 2.
- Warning Level 2: More serious offences, or contunual repetition of minor offences while on LV1 (examples: flaming, trolling, continually failing to credit members for sprites, stepping out of line with staff). The Warning Level 2 status lasts for approximately 2 months. Note: You can be bumped up to this level on a first-time offence if you are clearly a troll, somebody with no intention of cleaning up their act or improving, or have done a very serious offence.
- Banned: Very serious offences, (yet again) persistent rule breaking and blatant defiance of rules. The status changes to banned however long the ban period is set to be, and your account will be unbanned once the period is over. These bans can range from 3 days to Permanent/IP Banning. Note: You can be bumped up to this level on a first-time offence if you are clearly a troll, somebody with no intention of cleaning up their act or improving, or have done a very serious offence.
That is all for our main rules. As always, use your common sense and you shouldn't run into a serious problem. If you have problems with a member that need to be reported, report it in the Staff Noticeboard and you should be fine.
[Disclaimer: All staff have the right to right to administer punishment to any member who commits an offence at any period of the day. Said punishment is allowed to vary depending on the staff member, time of the day or mood of the punisher. So remember - do not catch a member of staff in a foul mood.]
