Posted April 10th, 2008 01:26 PM IP Hello girls, It has rained for several days now with no signs of let up. Sometimes I think we need a boat. Some of our roads are under water making a trip to town longer. Tom has to take Addie to dance class tonight. 40 miles plus both ways. Grass is growing taller and taller and we have alot to mow.To wet now.
We have as of yesterday, booked 2 weeks at Island seas Aug 8-22. We still have to find a way over and green stuff to spend.
Sure wish we were going this next week as some lucky people are.
I would love to meet up with both of you over there. Someday maybe. I need those positive thoughts, keep them coming and I am sending them right back at ya. Diane Love Grand Bahama Island

Posted April 12th, 2008 01:14 AM IP Hey Flamingo, thank you for the thoughts. Fortunately we were spared, I don't know how Diane and Tom fared, but I hope they didn't get too much. I really wish you were going as well, but the SIL has a very important date to wait for...I'm just wondering where my invitation is! I can't believe I wasn't invited to her graduation! Your advantage is your husband is Bahamian, so finding the housing when available is a valid opportunity for you. For me, it's just a pipe dream! We will meet someday I'm sure, and I will be so excited to meet you and your family as well. It's always great to meet new people, but especially special to meet those from the newsgroups, it's like finding family you never knew you had! Next Sunday will be the best day of my life again (o.k., with exception to becoming a mother)!

Posted April 12th, 2008 01:55 AM IP Diane, I got your email, hug Tom for me for sending the pics! I hope the weather lets up for you. Did you see there was a tornado in St. Joe yesterday? We had those few storms come thru later yesterday but didn't have any of the hail that came with it! Our trees haven't even bloomed yet, so we're still pretty safe. I'm so glad you booked your time at IS...and if worse comes to worse, get a row boat and go! The rest will fall into place, you'll see, where there's a will, there's a way! Heck, I may just have to go with you, hate to impose but I'm surely gonna need another trip by then! Shaylene is off to Worlds of Fun tomorrow for a chior contest, didn't think the park is open yet, but this is a special deal I guess. Farmer's Market starts tomorrow, will need to be up by 4! Have a wedding to go to tomorrow afternoon. Will be spending a few days in KC next week, so I feel very fortunate that we will be leaving next Sunday for GBI, and am so excited to go, but my trip will be cut short and I'll need to come home on the 30th. Rex, Shay and our friends will stay and come home on the 4th, but I'll still get the better part of 9 days there so no complaints! I know I'll get to go back, just hate to leave the island once I'm there. I'll get to see the RG's and apparently meet Dasher! I'm so excited about that! I promised donuts and coffee on the beach when I get there (Don't worry Rick, I won't give them all away before you arrive!). I'll try to email you back this weekend if you're not floating away!

Posted April 13th, 2008 07:59 AM IP Hey Shan: Sorry to hear you have to cut it short (see post on other board). We will make the best of it and have a great time while you are there. Sounds like you should find a way to clone yourself with all of the activities you have lately.
Back to to topic of this off topic thread. Yesterday was beautiful 68 and sunshine. we got a lot of yardwork done but today is 42 with rain. Accuweather says 83 and sunshine when we arrive in Freeport. Sounds like perfect coffee and donut weather.

Posted April 13th, 2008 12:20 PM IP Alright you guys, rub it in!! We had a nice warm Saturday in the DC area as well. We also got a lot of needed yard work done, but, enough more to do to last the rest of the year! 83 sounds real good to me! Hope you guys all have a great time and think about me and Diane at home! It is chilly here today!! I refuse to turn the heat back on even if we have to build a fire! Enjoy the rest of your weekend and happy packing for some of you guys!

Posted April 13th, 2008 11:23 PM IP You know the old show, HeeHaw, and the skit, "...if it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all". Our weather has been great for us, but wouldn't it just figure that we planted some 200 tomatoes on Thursday and Friday, and tonight it's supposed to get down to 27. Today was beautiful from the inside looking out, but bitter even at 45. It's supposed to work up to the upper temps this week, but tonight we'll have to baby those tomatoes! The weather here has been gloomy, which is alright, it's put off the bloom on the trees and fruits, but am afraid we'll go from this 45 to 70's in no time, then be really hot when the blooms are set to be polinated. Yep, we've got luck for sure! Depends on if your glass is half empty or half full! I try to keep it half full, but sometimes, half empty is inevidible! I wish you all good weather, and I'll see what I can do to send some from the Bahamas your way! Have a good week and we'll be thinking about you while we're on the beautiful warm beach, watching the waves lap up on my feet, drinking a virgin something! Enjoy your gardening, we haven't even had the chance to do that! Will have to wait until we return and things calm down a bit!

Posted April 16th, 2008 11:23 AM IP Hello my friends,
It is in the fiftys today but very windy. Tomorrow it is supposed to(yes you guessed it) rain again. Just as it starts to dry out we get another punch.
Good news is we finally managed to get airfare to freeport in August. I found, what I though a really good price considering everything. Alittle over $900 dollars for us both. I worked on it for most of a day to get what I actually wanted. Also got Tom talked into 4 extra nights in town area. Westin was having a really good sale. I went to there site. Cheaper then Expedia with resort fees included. That was a struggle as Tom didn't really feel it was necessary. I told him I needed this vacation for my health. LOL
I would really love to meet up with more of you. Our first 2 weeks is at Island Seas as usual. Won't have a car the entire time. To costly and I love beach time.
How is everyone else doing?

Posted April 16th, 2008 05:23 PM IP OK Shan:
How did the tomatoes do? I am hoping for success!!
Diane:
What are your dates for August? I won't be going in June for my SIL's graduation, just the hubby, so, I am thinking that I will need to go later on and I would love to meet you guys. I like it hot and I know it will be hot in August!

Posted April 17th, 2008 02:29 AM IP Flamingo: The tomatoes did well, Rex had to run the heater for only a few hours in the crack of early...got down to 29 for a while, but snapped out of it just after sunrise. Thank goodness no hail IN the high tunnel this year!
Diane: Don't count me out yet...after the next 3-4 weeks, we'll just see what the psychiatrist has to say, he may recommend I take a little trip by myself to get away from all of this! That's what this trip was for? Lord knows I'll most likely need one again! And from the sounds of it, if I work this airline thing right, I might be able to go!
Leaving Sunday bright and early, should be on the island by 1:30ish. I'm going to do my best to leave all this behind for those 9 days, with all that's been going on, it's hard to believe it's coming up so quickly! I'm going to soak up all the sun and shine I can before I come home tho!

Posted April 17th, 2008 10:37 AM IP Supposed to be in the 70's here today too but 29 was a cold start to the day.
Scraping my windshield this AM certainly made me long for GBI.
Shan; Why is it that things always come up when vacation times arrive. Hope you catch-up and the weather cooperates with your plans to leave especially since you have to cut your trip short. Seems like there are all kinds of emergencies here at the office that need attention before we leave so I don't "dump" a lot of problems on the person who takes call for my practice while we are away(can't plan for everything though). Seems the closer we get' the more we need it. See you in 9 days. Rick & Arla

Posted April 17th, 2008 09:36 PM IP Started out here at 68 this a.m., before afternoon it was 47! Supposed to rain the next 2 days. Rick: funny thing, I really thought marrying this fella (Rex or who ever he is) would lead to a nice, simple, comfortable life..OMG what was I thinking? It is always something! Can't wait to see you and Arla! But 9 days? It's so far away! Good luck getting your dumping done before you go and I'll save a spot for ya on the beach!
Deedee: Glad you got those tickets booked...but until you get there, I'll huff and puff as much as I can to keep sending that warm weather your way! I promise not to use all the sun before you arrive! But this year, I do plan to hog the sun a bit...sorry folks, I'll do what I can to share, but if you think there's an eclipse, it's just me sitting on the beach...tell me to move over!

Posted April 23rd, 2008 11:04 PM IP DeeDee, thank you so much. There's nothing more important to me than the Bahamas (I could give up the husband and kid for this you know!), but my head and heart have been thousands of miles away since I've been here. I'm so glad to be here, although I haven't seen a sunrise yet, it continues to come each day! It has been beautiful warm days and cool, calm evenings. Who could ask for anything more?

Posted April 24th, 2008 08:16 PM IP Shan, get the most you can from both sunrises and sunsets. Feel free to email pictures. You will really need them when you get home.
Janice emailed me today. Worried about you. I told her your friends had been sick.
Tom has to take another set of tests May 2. Be glad when this is fixed.
The important thing now is for you to relax and enjoy yourself. I know you have been looking forward to it. Take care.

Posted April 25th, 2008 11:25 PM IP The "anything more" Apple Blossom, I find, is that when the "big bird" flies back home it is just another excuse to search out another date with GBI . . .
I was one of the ones crying the first time I came back and my husband was so very confused until I told him that I felt like I was leaving a very very good friend . . . it seems that whatever is happening in life, good or bad, GBI is a great "shot" of the good stuff that living should be.
Hope your people (or as my students would say, "PEEPS") are all working on the "good" bag and will find good will and health coming their way. I am sure your thoughts whether home or on GBI are great "vibes" for them (and, hopefully peace for you!).
And, on topic weather is projected for 80's tommorrow in New York, but with a big dive next week (ouch!). I did read your posting on tomatoes and decided to hold off. Hopefully the planted tomatoes to date will reap great stuff! Love GBI
