Ok. To set up usergroups:

1. Go into admin panel and find Usergroups link.

2. Once there, you will see two blank boxes. One is for the Usegroup Name one for Usegroup Description. Give the name for the Usergroup (For Instance: Priviliaged Members) Then the description, whatever you decide.

3. Now go to User Administration and click on each members name that you want to add to the new group. You should see a drop down box with the usergroup there. Change it from None to the new usergroup. Submit Changes. You have to do each one individually.

4. Now go to Forum Administration and find the forums you want to be allowed only the new group. Make sure only that group is check for both post and view, unless you want Moderators to be added to it also. Submit Changes. You'll have to do each one individually.

Exco's Tutorial (Without Pics)

Step 1. Creating a usergroup and adding users to it.
1. Click on Usergroups in the control panel.

2. Under Add new usergroup, enter a group name(called My First Group in this example), and click Add group.

3. Your first group has been added. It's time to add users to this group. Click on User Administration in the control panel. A list of currently registered users is shown. Click on a username, and a new window popups. In the new windows you'll find a Usergroup setting. Select "My First Group" as the user group, and click Save. (Only registered users can be part of a group, moderators and administrators cannot join a group)

Step 2. Giving the usergroup access to a forum
Right, now it's time to give this group(or rather the users in this group) access to a forum.

1. Go to Forum administration in the control panel.

2. Click Edit on the forum you want to give the group access to.

3. Under Access permission you can select who can view and post in the forum. To give only our new group and Super moderators permission to view this forum follow these steps:

  • Uncheck "Everyone(including unregistered)" if it is checked(under both columns).
  • Check "My First Group" and Super moderators under "Can view forum". To make life more interesting, we'll only allow super moderators to post in this forum.
  • So under "Can post in forum", check only Super moderators.

4. The last option on this page allows you to select if archives should be created for this forum. Because Archives are always public(no matter if the forum is private), never have this checked if the forum is set to be private.

5. Click Submit and you're done! This forum can now only be viewed by members of "My First Group" and Super Moderators, and only Super Moderators can post in it.
