I Measure Every Grief

I measure every grief I meet
With analytic eyes;
I wonder if it weighs like mine,
Or has an easier size.
I wonder if they bore it long,
Or did it just begin?
I could not tell the date of mine,
It feels so old a pain.
I wonder if it hurts to live,
And if they have to try,
And whether, could they choose between,
They would not rather die.
I wonder if when years have piled-- Some thousands-- on the cause
Of early hurt, if such a lapse
Could give them any pause;
Or would they go on aching still
Through centuries above,
Enlightened to a larger pain
By contrast with the love.
The grieved are many, I am told;
The reason deeper lies, --
Death is but one and comes but once
And only nails the eyes.
There's grief of want, and grief of cold, --
A sort they call 'despair,'
There's banishment from native eyes,
In sight of native air.
And though I may not guess the kind
Correctly yet to me
A piercing comfort it affords
In passing Calvary,
To note the fashions of the cross
Of those that stand alone
Still fascinated to presume
That some are like my own.

A Better Way Of Life

I sat trembling as I listened
To the words that were spoken to me.
It seemed I had broken all the rules,
So blinded I failed to see.

The power, that had weakened me,
Led me on a sinful course.
For, now, I found myself frozen
And reeling from great remorse.

Flashbacks, of a life I had led,
Haunted the depth of my soul;
Laws that I recklessly squandered,
While acting out various roles.

This monster, who had promised me
That my life would be rich with fun,
Had taught me how to turn my back
And how my Lord to shun.

Satan is the name that visited,
Stripping the love from my heart ~
Until God's presence granted me
Forgiveness and a brand new start!

He told me that His love for us
Will never bend or weaken
And that forgiveness is always granted
When we listen while He is speaking!

On Down the Road

Hold to the course, though the storms are about you;
Stick to the road where the banner still flies;
Fate and his legions are ready to rout you--
Give 'em both barrels--and aim for their eyes.

Life's not a rose bed, a dream or a bubble,
A living in clover beneath cloudless skies;
And Fate hates a fighter who's looking for trouble,
So give 'im both barrels--and shoot for the eyes.

Fame never comes to the loafers and sitters,
Life's full of knots in a shifting disguise;
Fate only picks on the cowards and quitters,
So give 'em both barrels--and aim for the eyes.

That Something Within
Jackie Dove-Miller

There is something within me
That is strong enough
To keep me from toppling
Over the edge of
Sanity,
Over the ledge of
frustration
Or over the hedge of
All-out foolishness.
It leads me to prayer
When I would otherwise
Break.
There is something in my make-up
Or my bringing up
Or just the way I look up
That straightens my back
And bows my head.
It becomes the focus of my meditation.
The sentiment in my supplication,
The reason for my transformation.
That thing inside me
Has me choosing light
Though darkness covers all.
It wells up like ocean waves
Come to drown those who
Think they deserve to push me back
Hold me down or
Steal my joy.
I have a spiritual strength that
Grows deeper and speaks louder as I get to know
More about who I am.

"Where did IT come from?" Someone recently asked.
I answered, "In my developing stage, someone said out loud,
'You sure are good at _______,'"
My puny soul embraced that seed,
and it planted itself deep inside me and took root.
I tested that tiny bit of ego-strength against
The negative family messages that focused on
What I was NOT good at, making me feel small
And disconnected.
I was NOT good at being like my mother
Who was all but saintly.
I was NOT good at being
Like my sister who was beautiful and dainty.
I was NOT ballerina thin, nor prissy neat,
But I WAS good at ________
And when I looked a little further, I discovered that
I was GOOD ENOUGH.
Good enough to bear fruit
And reap a harvest.
Good enough to plant a seed
In others and watch them grow
Magnificent and free.
I was GOOD ENOUGH to relate to
The GOD inside of me.

So, this poem is for all my sister-friends
Who don't yet know that
YOU are better than what your mothers,
your teachers, the men in your life,
or even the good sisters in church have called you.
Because God has called you Blessed
And HIS is the only voice that matters.
So, here and now, I pray OUR sister-prayer,
Dear Lord,
Help me to release
the self-doubt
That lives in my heart.

Remind me daily
That I am the product of
Your hands...
And all that
you make... ALL THAT YOU MAKE
Is Perfect. Amen

I Believe
by Trixie Asirvatham

There's always a brighter day ahead, when you keep on believing in God and His plans
for your life. They will unfold in His time.

I believe, though shadows may fall,
I believe the sun comes out, after all
I believe there's something to look forward to…
I believe there's someone beside me
I believe there's someone to guide me
I believe I'm not alone, on my own…

I believe I've got the music in my soul,
I believe my life's in my control
I believe I have the strength to carry on
towards my goal…

I believe that I've got it in me
To do my best, the very best that's within me
I believe I have a long, long way to go….
Yes, I believe,I believe in me,
I believe in me, I believe in me.

The No-Limit Spirit
by Trixie Asirvatham

How many times have you approached a new experience with the mind-set of "I can"? Most times, you're afraid to try anything new, you're afraid to fail. This is a limitation on what you can do because it defines what you will try. Change your thinking and remove the blocks to your success.

So pull off the blinkers and throw off the shackles of powerless thinking. Explore. Dream. Discover.
There's no limit to what you can do, for your spirit is of God, the no-limit spirit.

Your only limitation
lies in your own mind
If you look around you,
there's nothing to keep you behind
So why be afraid of
what's in store for you
You'll find unlimitation
also lies in your mind.

No limit…to what you can do
No limit…to what you can say
No limit…to what you can think
No limit…to what you can be
No limit …to the no-limit spirit
The only limitation
lies within your mind.

Pull out the stops now, go right ahead
Put your heart and soul into
what you're doing today
Feel the energy in you, as limits fall away
Feel the boundaries widen,
expand your universe.

Unlimit, unlimit yourself
Unprogram, unprogram yourself
Unthink, unthink your bottlenecks
And undoubtedly you'll find
The only limitation lies within your mind

Conventional thinking
needs a kick in the face
It's okay to fail now, yes, it's no disgrace
Break all those chains
put by those around you
Explore all the options,
cause that's how you grow.

No limit…to what you can do
No limit…to what you can say
No limit…to what you can think
No limit…to what you can be
No limit …to the no-limit spirit
The only limitation
lies within your mind.

Unlimit, unlimit yourself
Unprogram, unprogram yourself
Unthink, unthink your past
The only limitation lies within your mind

No limit …to the no-limit spirit
The only limitation lies within your mind.

Life isn't the way that we paint it

Life isn't the Way that we Paint It
by Trixie Asirvatham

Listen to a bunch of people talking on a grey, cloudy day. Chances are, their conversation would centre around problems at work, difficulties of commuting in heavy traffic,
fights at home and other less than inspiring topics. Think of the positive side of life
and your whole attitude changes. Children are our best teachers, they take life as it comes, and they laugh a lot along the way.

Life isn't the way that we paint it,
Dreary and dull and grey…
It's sunshine and laughter and music
And birdsong along the way.

It's the soft rosy glow of the sunrise,
A rainbow seen through the pain,
Or tender young leaves on the treetops
Or a carpet of green in the rain.

It's the chatter of little children,
The innocence in their eyes,
It's the charm of their smiles and their laughter,
The candour that never lies.

It's people so thoughtful and caring,
They teach you in little ways,
It's friends who are warm and sharing
You learn from them every day.

It's a book that makes you chuckle
Or makes you stop and think,
It's ideas and thoughts and feelings
That make you dare to dream.

Live isn't the way that we paint it,
Gloomy and dull and grey…
It's brightness and light and colour,
It's we who paint in the grey.

Undo - to do!

by Trixie Asirvatham

What are the blocks that stop you from achieving your full potential? Many of them lie within your mind, not in your circumstances. Identify them, through meditation, reflection and quiet times. Listen to others and use their feedback to improve yourself. To achieve all that you can be, believe in yourself, spend time with yourself and remove the roadblocks to your success.

This poem was inspired by the book "Awaken the Giant Within" by Anthony Robbins.

Deep down inside you is energy and power - unlimited!
You are the source of hidden resources - untapped!
And when you discover just what you can do - you're unstoppable
For you can be anything you want to be - you're unbeatable…

To do the undoable,
Think the unthinkable,
Dream the undreamt,
Bad habits and negative thinking, they must be unlearnt...

It's not so impossible
when you spend a little time with yourself
Learning to know yourself,
Learning to love yourself,
Fixing your eyes on a goal
Committing yourself, heart and soul…

It's not so impossible
when you spend a little time step by step
Learning not to give up when you fail
Putting the wind back in your sail
You've got to triple your chance to lose
So that you triple your chance to win.

Little steps add up to a giant leap to power --- unleashed!
So don't let your talents and strengths go to waste - unplumbed
Unlimit yourself and reach out to a future - unbounded
Free yourself from yourself and let your true story unfold.

There's A Reason

I was always taught, there's a reason
That people do the things they do,
Though you may not always like them.
Their heart hides a secret from you.

If they're quick to bite your head off
Or constantly brag and boast,
Remember, the people we like the least
May need our love the most.

Could it be they had been abused
Or even ridiculed all their lives?
These are the type of hurtful things
That make sure their heart survives.

But, the heart that survives is hardened
And, on the seas of life, they coast.
Remember, the people we like the least
May need our love the most.

The Holy Alphabet

IAM too blessed to be stressed!"

The shortest distance between a problem and a solution is the distance between your knees and the floor.
The one who kneels to the Lord can stand up to anything. Love and peace be with you forever, Amen

Although things are not perfect
Because of trial or pain
Continue in thanksgiving
Do not begin to blame
Even when the times are hard
Fierce winds are bound to blow
God is forever able
Hold on to what you know
Imagine life without His love
Joy would cease to be
Keep thanking Him for all the things
Love imparts to thee
Move out of "Camp Complaining"
No weapon that is known
On earth can yield the power
Praise can do alone
Quit looking at the future
Redeem the time at hand
Start every day with worship
To "thank" is a command
Until we see Him coming
Victorious in the sky
We'll run the race with gratitude
X alting God most high
Yes, there'll be good times and yes some will be bad, but...
Zion waits in glory...where none are ever sad!

When will it be?

by Trixie Asirvatham

Whenever you feel that things aren't going your way, remember, it's not a permanent situation.
Life is cyclic, and there are highs and lows, but things always do work out in the long run. So if you're looking out for a job, and feeling that the breaks aren't coming your way, if you've tried your best, been proactive, met people, told all the well-wishers you know... well, just hang in there, things will have to change.... and soon! Meanwhile, just give expression to those feelings swirling around inside you, they will clarify your expectations and release positive energy. Sometimes the situation you're in is God's way of telling you to depend on Him!

When will it be that the phone rings with a firm offer for me?
When will it be that I get my first real juicy assignment
with all the excitement it brings ---
When will it be that I'll be recognised
for who I am and what I can do…
When will it be that people want to meet me, instead of I meeting them?

I've met so many people who started with nothing
But a dream in their hearts and a hope for the day
And their belief in themselves has taken them far along the way….

When will it be that I walk the road I've chosen
And I find it's going nowhere but up
When will it be that I can say with the others
"I've never looked back?"

O God, when will it be
That the good things will happen to me
Only You can tell the answer, so I'm asking,
Dear Lord --- when will it be?

The Brick

A young and successful executive was traveling down a neighborhood street, going a bit too fast in his new Jaguar. He was watching for kids darting out from between parked cars and slowed down when he thought he saw something.
As his car passed, no children appeared. Instead, a brick smashed into the Jag's side door! He slammed on the brakes and backed the Jag back to the spot where the brick had been thrown.

The angry driver then jumped out of the car, grabbed the nearest kid and pushed him up against a parked car shouting, "What was that all about and who are you? Just what the heck are you doing? That's a new car and that brick you threw is going to cost a lot of money. Why did you do it?"

The young boy was apologetic. "Please, mister...please, I'm sorry but I didn't know what else to do, " He pleaded. "I threw the brick because no one else would stop..."

With tears dripping down his face and off his chin, the youth pointed to a spot just around a parked car. "It's my brother," he said. "He rolled off the curb and fell out of his wheelchair and I can't lift him up."

Now sobbing, the boy asked the stunned executive, "Would you please help me get him back into his wheelchair? He's hurt and he's too heavy for me." Moved beyond words, the driver tried to swallow the rapidly swelling lump in his throat. He hurriedly lifted the handicapped boy back into the wheelchair, then took out his fancy handkerchief and dabbed at the fresh scrapes and cuts. A quick look told him everything was going to be okay.

"Thank you and may God bless you," the grateful child told the stranger.

Too shook up for words, the man simply watched the boy push his wheelchair-bound brother down the sidewalk toward their home. It was a long, slow walk back to the Jaguar.

The damage was very noticeable, but the driver never bothered to repair the dented side door. He kept the dent there to remind him of this message "Don't go through life so fast that someone has to throw a brick at you to get your attention. God whispers in our souls and speaks to our heart. Sometimes when we don't have time to listen, He has to throw a brick at us.
It's our choice. God didn't promise days without pain, laughter without sorrow, sun without rain, but He did promise strength for the day, comfort for the tears, and light for the way."

Jesus Is Waiting

If every person in this world

Would take the time to see

The beauty that God created

How amazing this would be.

The sun in all its brightness

He made to light the day

The moon and all the countless stars

At night to lead your way.

The majesty of mountains

The golden fields of grain

The sweetness of a bird’s song

A rainbow after rain.

The rustling of the leaves of trees

The slightest breath of wind

Are these just God’s reminders

Of the love He wants to send?

So if you don’t know Jesus

But you want Him in your heart

He doesn’t want to lose you

So you must do your part.

He’s always there and waiting

He’s listening for your voice

He wants to be your Savior

But He lets you make the choice.

He only wants what’s best for you

And He wants you for His own

To live with Him in glory

To share His heavenly home.

So when you feel a yearning

For something more you need

Jesus is holding out His hand

Just reach for it, He’ll lead.

All sins will be forgiven

And you can start anew

If only you will just believe

That Jesus died for you.

That God His Holy Father

Raised Him from the dead

Now He lives and reigns in heaven

Just as the scriptures said.

Your life will be completely changed

When you are born anew

Because you have His promise

That He'll come back for you.

This life on earth is nothing

Compared to what’s in store

You can’t begin to comprehend

What God planned long before.

No more tears or pain or sorrow

Will you ever have to face

When at last you make it home

To dwell in God’s own grace.

You’ll meet your Savior face to face

And kneel before His throne

To worship Him forever

In your everlasting home.

Allow Yourself
by Catherine Pulsifer, © 2009

Allow your self to dream,
And when you do dream big

Allow yourself to learn
And when you do learn all you can

Allow yourself to laugh
And when you do share your laughter

Allow yourself to set goals
And when you do reward yourself as you move forward

Allow yourself to be determined
And when you do you will find you will succeed

Allow yourself to believe in yourself
And when you do you will find self confidence

Allow yourself to lend a helping hand
And when you do a hand will help you.

Allow yourself relaxation
And when you do you will find new ideas.

Allow yourself love
And when you do you will find love in return

Allow yourself to be happy
And when you do you will influence others around you.

Allow yourself to be positive
And when you do life will get easier.

JESUS IN THE HOUSE

Once there was this very wealthy young man. He lived in a
great, elaborate house with dozens of rooms. each room
was more comfortable and more beautiful than the one before
it. there were paintings and sculptures. Crystal chandeliers,
golden, ornate railings on the stairs. More beauty than most
have ever seen.

One day he decided to invite the Lord to come home and
stay with him. When the Lord arrived, this young man offered
him the very best room in the house. The room was upstairs
and at the end of the hall. "This room is yours, Jesus! Stay
as long as you like and you can do whatever you want to in
this room, remember Jesus, its all yours."

That evening after he had retired for the night there came a
loud knocking at the front door. The young man pulled on
his robe and made his way downstairs. When he opened the
door he found that the devil had sent three of his demons
to attack the man. He quickly tried to close the door but
one of the demons kept sticking his foot in. Sometime
later, after a great struggle, he managed to slam the door
shut and returned to his room totally exhausted.

"Can you believe that", "he man thought. "Jesus is upstairs
in my very best room sleeping while I am down here battling
demons. Oh, well, maybe he just didn't hear". He slept fitfully
that night.

The next day thing went along as normal and, being tired as
he was, the young man retired early that evening. Along
about midnight, there came such a terrible ruckus at the
front door that the young man was sure that whatever it was
would tear the door down. He stumbled down the stairs once
again and opened the door to find that were dozens of
demons now trying to get into his beautiful home.

For more than three hours he fought and struggled against
the demons from hell and finally overtook them enough to
shut the door against their attack. All energy seemed to fail
him. He really didn't understand this at all. "Why won't the
Lord come to my rescue? Why does he allow me to fight
all by myself? I feel so alone". Troubled, he found his way
to the sofa and fell into a restless sleep.

The next morning he decided to inquire of the Lord about the
happenings of the last two evenings. Quietly he made his
way to the elegant bedroom where he had left Jesus.
"Jesus," he called as he tapped at the door. "Lord, I don't
understand what is happening. For the last two nights I
have had to fight the demons away from my door while
you laid up here sleeping. Don't you care about me? Did I
not give you the very best room in the house?"

He could see the tears building in Jesus' eyes but continued
on, "I just don't understand, I really thought that once I
invited you in to live with me that you would take care of me
and I gave you the best room in my house and everything.
What more can I do?"

"My precious child," Jesus spoke so softly. "I do love and
care for you. I protect all that you have released into my
care. But when you invited me to come here and stay, you
brought me to this lovely room and you shut the door to the
rest of your house. I am Lord of this room but I am not
Master of this house. I have protected this room and
no demon may enter here."

"Oh, Lord, please forgive me. Take all of my house-it is
yours. I am so sorry that I never offered you all to begin
with. I want you to have control of everything." With this
he flung open the bedroom door and knelt at Jesus' feet.
"Please forgive me Lord for being so selfish."

Jesus smiled and told him that He had already forgiven
him and that He would take care of things from now on.
That night as the young man prepared for bed he thought,
"I wonder if those demons will return, I am so tired of
fighting them each and every night." But he knew that
Jesus said that he would take care of things from now on.

Along about midnight the banging on the door was
frightening. The young man slipped out of his room in
time to see Jesus going down the stairs. He watched in
awe as Jesus swung open the door, no need to be afraid.

Satan stood at the door this time demanding to be let in.
"What do you want, satan?" the Lord asked. The devil
bowed low in the presence of the Lord, "So sorry, I seem
to have gotten the wrong address." And with that, he and
the demons all ran away.

There is a moral to this tale. Jesus wants all of you, not
just a part. He will take all that you give Him but nothing
more. How much of your heart have you given to the Lord?
Are you keeping a portion of it away from Him?

Perhaps the attacks are coming more and more each day.
Why not let the Lord fight the battles for you? He is always
victorious. I have found that God made man simple, all of
man's complexities are of his own devising.

To Those Who Fail

To Those Who Fail

"All honor to him who shall win the prize,"
The world has cried for a thousand years;
But to him who tries, and who fails and dies,
I give great honor and glory and tears;

Give glory and honor and pitiful tears
To all who fail in their deeds sublime;
Their ghosts are many in the van of years,
They were born with Time, in advance of Time.

Oh, great is the hero who wins a name,
But greater many and many a time
Some pale-faced fellow who dies in shame,
And lets God finish the thoughts sublime.

And great is the man with a sword undrawn,
And good is the man who refrains from wine;
But the man who fails and yet still fights on,
Lo, he is the twin-born brother of mine.

Allow Yourself
by Catherine Pulsifer, © 2009

Allow your self to dream,
And when you do dream big

Allow yourself to learn
And when you do learn all you can

Allow yourself to laugh
And when you do share your laughter

Allow yourself to set goals
And when you do reward yourself as you move forward

Allow yourself to be determined
And when you do you will find you will succeed

Allow yourself to believe in yourself
And when you do you will find self confidence

Allow yourself to lend a helping hand
And when you do a hand will help you.

Allow yourself relaxation
And when you do you will find new ideas.

Allow yourself love
And when you do you will find love in return

Allow yourself to be happy
And when you do you will influence others around you.

Allow yourself to be positive
And when you do life will get easier.

Free To Be

I've had enough of poison pills
I'm not looking forward to feeling ill,
As sometimes I feel people's hate
When I'm looking for love's embrace,
If only people saw the best in me
And didn't try to tear me down,
Alas my freedom and happiness
Causes some to feel envious,
Spurring forth a wrath that
Seems quite endless,
Yet with all my spunk and zest,
I persist,
Though judgment tries to tie my wrists.
I persist because God is my judge,
Not them.

God's Crayons
A young man almost three,
Sat upon his mothers knee,
With crayons in his hand,
His masterpiece he planned.

Brilliant crayons he did love,
And never grew tired of,
Colors so amazingly bright,
Like a glowing prism light!

The evening sunset phasing,
Like a red-hot flame blazing,
Radiant colors so enhanced,
His eager little eyes danced.

With excitement so delirious,
In a soft voice so serious,
Said mother-mother look,
As her hand in his he took.

Never dropping his gaze,
Like a mesmerizing daze,
Staring at the splendid hue,
God-has crayons too.

God's Recipe of Love

"And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left. Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots."
Luke 23:33-34
King James Version

There are many ingredients in God's recipe of love. The ingredients in His recipe of love are unconditional love, mercy, compassion, tenderness, forgiveness and grace. However, the main ingredient in His recipe of love is forgiveness. God's recipe of love started at the cross when Jesus said "Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do".

Far too often, we harden our hearts and refuse to forgive people when they hurt us. O we may tell them that we forgive them but our hearts are still filled with bitterness, hatred and resentment. Unless we forgive them from our hearts like Jesus forgives us, we have not forgiven them. When we harbor unforgiveness in our hearts, it stinks in the nostrils of Jesus.

What a sad commentary it is on those of us who claim to be Christians when we refuse to forgive those who have hurt us. If ever anyone has a right to harbor unforgiveness in His heart, it is Jesus. He suffered more than anyone has ever suffered or ever will suffer. When He hung on that cruel cross of horror, He endured an excruciating pain that is impossible for us to fully comprehend. He allowed them to beat Him beyond recognition and crucify Him for you and for me.

Even though Jesus endured all of that pain and suffering, out of His heart that is filled with compassion and unconditional love for us, He still forgave us. I believe that we hurt Jesus and break His heart when we refuse to forgive those who have hurt us. None of us are perfect. There was only one perfect person who ever lived or ever will live and His name is Jesus! We need to realize that we hurt others also. If we want them to forgive us, we had better forgive them.

If Jesus hadn’t forgiven us from His heart of compassion on that dark and terrible day when He hung on the cross for our sins, we would be on our way to hell for all eternity. Thank God for the unconditional love and forgiveness that came from the tender compassionate heart of Jesus for us on that dark and terrible day when He died for us. Thank God for His recipe of love that started in the heart of Jesus.

Heavenly Father, we confess that we have not forgiven those who have hurt us as You forgive us. Cleanse our hearts and make us fit for Your use. Help us to forgive others from our hearts just as You forgive us from Your heart. Thank You for Your recipe of love which was delivered to us by Your beloved Son. Thank You, Jesus, for dying for our sins and for paying the price that we could never have paid. Amen.

GOD'S WINGS

From National Geographic. We have not been able to find the author.

A little something to put things in perspective ...
An article in National Geographic several years ago provided an interesting picture of God's wings. After a forest fire in Yellowstone National Park, forest rangers began their trek up a mountain to assess the inferno's damage.

One ranger found a bird literally petrified in ashes, perched statuesquely on the ground at the base of a tree. Somewhat sickened by the eerie sight, he knocked over the bird with a stick. When he gently struck it, three tiny chicks scurried from under their dead mother's wings.

The loving mother, keenly aware of impending disaster, had carried her offsprings to the base of the tree and had gathered them under her wings, instinctively knowing that the toxic smoke would rise. She could have flown to safety but had refused to abandon her babies.

Then the blaze had arrived and the heat had scorched her small body. The mother had remained steadfast. She had been willing to die, so those under the cover of her wings would live.

"He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge." (Psalm 91:4)
Being loved this much should make a difference in your life. Remember the One who loves you, and then be different because of it.

Remember Jesus, can we ever repay Him ... No, 2jesus

Want to Thank You, Lord
by Trixie Asirvatham

We're always quick to call on God in times of distress or trouble.
Help me Lord! Give me a job!
Get me out of this situation!
Make me well!
Our demands on Him are constant. But how do we fare on the thanksgiving scale?
Do we spare the time to thank Him for all the good gifts He surrounds us with?

Take time to give thanks. It changes your whole world-view.

Chorus: I want to thank you, Lord (3)
For all you've given me (Repeat).

For the song on my lips and the gift of poetry
For writing skills and a world of opportunity
For family and friends and the love surrounding me
I want to thank you, Lord for all you've given me. Chorus.

Teach me to reach out to others that I see
Feel the different needs of people around me
Let me not be all wrapped up in "myself" and "me"
I want to thank you Lord, for all you've given me. Chorus.

For the blue skies above and the earth beneath the spreading tree
For little children as they laugh out loud in glee
For flowers that look like sunbeams scattered around
I want to thank you Lord, for all you've given me. Chorus.

If We Only Understood

Could we but draw back the curtain,
That surrounds each others lives,
See the naked heart and spirit;
Know what spur the action gives;
Often we would find it better,
Purer then we think we would.
We would love each other better,
If we only understood.

The Cross Room

The young man was at the end of his rope.

Seeing no way out, he dropped to his knees in prayer.

"Lord, I can't go on," he said.

"I have too heavy a cross to bear."

The Lord replied,

"My son, if you can't bear it's weight,

just place your cross inside this room.

Then open another door and pick any cross you wish."

The man was filled with relief.

"Thank you, Lord,"

he sighed, and did as he was told.

As he looked around the room he saw many different crosses;

some so large the tops were not visible.

Then he spotted a tiny cross leaning against a far wall.

"I'd like that one, Lord,"

he whispered. And the Lord replied,

"My son, that's the cross you brought in."
