Ray Vernon Jones (March 23, 1948 - March 18, 2008)

Ray Jones, 59, of Rose Hill, passed away Tuesday, (March 18, 2008) as the result of a logging accident in the Frog Level area of Lee County. He was a lifelong resident of Lee County and of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther & Agnus Jones; four brothers and a sister.

Survivors include:

Roscoe “Rusty” Dilmon, 82, died on Friday, March 21, 2008 at 2:30 am at Lane Regional Medical Center in Zachary, LA. He was born in Ewing, Va., a resident of Zachary and a former resident of Rose Hill, Va.

He was a knife collector and an avid fisherman.

He was preceded in death by son, John Allen Dilmon; and parents, Thurman, Sr. and Beatrice Dilmon.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Eileen Carter Dilmon of Zachary; son, Joseph Howard Dilmon and wife, Bonnie Richardson Dilmon of Jackson; two brothers, Thurmon Dillman, Jr. and wife Lucy Brock Dillman of Ewing, VA and Wiley Hamilton Dillman and wife, Lucy Short Dillman of Jonesville, VA; grandchild, Emily Dilmon Nevarez and husband, Javier G. Nevarez.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. Arney-Mullins Funeral Home Chapel in Rose Hill with Rev. Robert Charles Long officiating.

Burial will follow at the Sumpter Cemetery.

Roy Eagle, 66, of Jonesville, Virginia, passed away Monday (March 24, 2008) at Wellmont Lonesome Pine Hospital in Big Stone Gap, Virginia after a valiant 8 year battle with cancer.

A lifelong resident of Lee County, Virginia, he had accepted Christ as his Saviour.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Ruby Robbins Eagle.

Surviving are:

His wife: Betty Eagle of Jonesville, Virginia

Daughter and son-in-law: Leigh Ann and Randy Surber of Jonesville, Virginia

Three grandchildren: Katey, Josh, and Eryn Surber

Several nieces and nephews and many, many friends.

Georgia Fern Ellison, 62, of Rose Hill, VA passed away Monday, (March 31, 2008) at Lee Regional Medical Center after a long illness.

She was preceded in death by her parents Lancen & Thelma Middleton; five brothers Charlie, Orville, Robert Ray, Kermit and Ralph Middleton; sister Cleo Daniels; granddaughter Olivia Ellison; nephews Orville and Charles Michael Middleton; niece Cindy Fee; and companion and special friend of many years Hubert Parkey and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

She is survived by two sons Jimmy Wayne Ellison of Prince George, Va. Jeffrey Ellison and wife Karen of Jonesville, Va.

Two stepdaughters: Shannon Parkey Ferguson and husband Ben of Buford, Ga. Joette Parkey Fowler and husband Vic of Knoxville, TN.

One sister: Martha Wilder of Rose Hill, Va.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Silvia Goody; 3 Brothers, Don, Dallas and Vernon; and 2 sisters, Louise and Josephine.

Rev. Estil Hensley 86 of Rose Hill, Virginia passed away Thursday (April 17 2008) at Greystone Health Care Center in Blountville, Tennessee.

He was a member of White Rock Church of God, a retired coal miner and a veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sampson and Lillie Pace Hensley, five brothers, Elmer, Cecil, Clifford, Millard and Leonard Hensley, one sister, Elsie Walker and one grandson, Gary Steven Whitehead.

Maggie was a loving wife and mother. She loved the Lord and was a member of the Rose Hill Pentecostal Church at Rose Hill.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tommy and America Eldridge; brothers, Burl and Jay Eldridge; one sister Edna Williams.

Betty Middleton, 60, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at home in Harrogate in the care of her family.

Betty was born April 13, 1948, a daughter of the late Pittman and Sophia Wilson Hensley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one aunt, Eller Hensley; and one cousin, J. D. Hensley.

Betty was a lifelong educator during which time she taught in Arizona, Kentucky, and Lee County, Virginia. She retired from the Lee County School System after over 25 years of service. In addition, she recently joined and was a faithful member of the First Christian Church of Middlesboro, Kentucky.

Survivors include: her husband, Boyd Middleton of Harrogate, Tennessee; her three children, Rose Kremer and husband, Todd, of Fort Recovery, OH, Steve Middleton and wife, Dee, of Ewing, VA, and Michael Middleton of Salt Lake City, UT; six grandchildren, T.J. and Blake Kremer, Autumn Middleton, and Courtney, Kristen, and Bailey Hedrick; and 4 siblings, Charles Hensley and wife, Ann, James Hensley and partner, Mary, Jerry Hensley, and wife, Darcye, and Mary Ruth Coign and husband, Scott; and one very special friend, Rhonda Elswick of Jonesville, VA.

She was a retired banker and Vice President of Powell Valley National Bank for 49 years. She was a member of the Southwest Virginia Bank Womens Club. She was trustee of the Kathryn Goins Fund.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lucien and Glessye Humphreys and three brothers, Pascal, Bill, and Jim Humphreys.

Juanita Hobbs Neff, 94, of Galax, Virginia and formerly of Rose Hill, Virginia was born in Lee County Virginia and passed away on Friday, May 16, 2008 at Twin County Regional Healthcare in Galax, Virginia.

Juanita taught school in the Lee County School System for 42 years and was a member of the Rose Hill Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer Carson Neff and Lucille Hobbs Neff; three brothers, Harold C. Neff, Claude E. Neff and Harry K. Neff; one sister, Mildred N. Loftice; and brother-in-law, Dewey Loftice.

She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Lucy Horton Neff, Galax, Virginia and Marie B. Neff of Ewing, VA, and several nieces and nephews.

Evada E. (Edens) Foor
May 24, 1936 - May 5, 2008

( Jonesboro) 71 year old Evada E. ( Edens) Foor died on May 5, 2008 in her home. Mrs. Foor was born in Jonesville, Virginia on May 24, 1936 to the late Millard F. and Myrtle M. (Cheek) Edens.

Evada E. ( Edens) Foor was a 1955 graduate of Jonesville High School. She came to Elwood from Virginia and then later moved to Marion. She married Charles E. Foor on September 26, 1969. He preceded her in death on October 6, 2003. Mrs. Foor worked as a law and insurance office secretary in Virginia. After moving to Marion she worked for the former RCA from 1964-1985. She enjoyed people and loved being near her family. She had a passion for all animals especially birds. Mrs. Foor was a member of South Marion Church of Christ.

Evada E. ( Edens) Foor is survived by three step-children: Vicky (Jeff) Summers and Cathy ( Gary) Pierce, both of Alexandria, Indiana; and Jerry J. (Jennifer) Foor, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; One brother: Alfred Edens, Gate City, Virginia; Two sisters: Lena Edens, Ben Hur and Virginia; Frances Thomas, Jonesboro, Indiana. Nine step-grandchildren, nine step-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Foor is preceded in death by her brother, Phil Edens.
Visitation for Evada E. ( Edens) Foor will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday May 8th at the Owen-Weilert-Duncan Funeral Home, Gas City Chapel, 200 North 7 th Street, Gas City.

Lula Livesay Wade
(May 14, 1919 - May 28, 2008)

Lula Livesay Wade was born May 14, 1919 in Blackwater, Virginia to Callaway and Faye Livesay. She went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 28, 2008, making her stay on earth 89 years and 14 days.

Lula married Adrian Wade on October 27, 1933. Adrian preceded Lula in her passing on May 13, 1979.

Lula professed her faith in Christ in the fall of 1940 and was baptized by the Rev. Johnny McGee and took her membership at Blackwater Union Baptist Church. Lula remained faithful to her church until her passing. She also attended Fleenor Town Baptist Church.

Lula loved her gardening, quilting, and cooking, as well as fellowship with family and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Shirley Willison; two sons, George Wade and Paul “Bud” Wade; five sisters, Ruth Sword, Emily Shubert, Marie Mintz, Betty Livesay, and Ruby Livesay; and one brother, Bradley Livesay.

Surviving are:
Six sons: Ronnie Wade and wife, Eunice of Rose Hill, Virginia; Ted Wade of Pennington Gap, Virginia; Robert Wade and wife, Nancy of Gaffney, South Carolina; Herman Wade and wife, Sue of Jonesville, Virginia; John “Peanut” Wade and wife, Pat of Jonesville, Virginia; and Kermit Wade of Jonesville, Virginia
Four daughters: Betty Williams and husband, James of Jonesville, Virginia; Pauline “Tiny” Gillenwater and husband, M.D. of Stickleyville, Virginia; Emily Dale Wade Parsons and husband, Billy of Decatur, Alabama; and Margaret Fannon and husband, Otis of Stickleyville, Virginia

Bacon, Isaac W. “Ike”, 71, of Rose Hill passed away Saturday, June 14, 2008 at the Lee Regional Medical Center.

He was a lifelong resident of Lee County. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service with over forty years service. Mr. Bacon was a member of Rose Hill Christian Church and a Member of the Mason’s Wynn Lodge.

Edith Yeary, 72, of Jonesville, Virginia passed away Wednesday (June 18, 2008) at Wellmont-Lee Regional Medical Center in Pennington Gap, Va.

She was a lifelong resident of Lee County, employed at Powell Valley National Bank in Jonesville, a member of the First Baptist Church of Ewing, a member of the Jonesville Womens Club and a member of the Red Hat Society.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Judge and Eura Napier Coomer and son, James Yeary.

She is survived by:

She was a member of Thompson Settlement Baptist Church in Jonesville, Virginia. A resident of Lee County, Virginia for most of her life, she and her husband, George operated a country store in the Thompson Settlement Community for 40 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Hopkins; her parents, Cam and Emma Newman; three brothers, Chris, Oatie, and Barlow Newman; and two sisters, Molly Sewell and Byrd Warner.

Jewell Spurlock, 68, went home to be with Jesus Thursday, (July 17, 2008) with her family at her side. Jewell was part of a large, close, loving family. She will be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews, and friends. Jewell accepted Jesus Christ as her savior many years ago and attended Trinity Tabernacle. The Angels are rejoicing at her homecoming.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harrison and Mae Fee; husband, Oscar F. Spurlock Sr.; and two brothers, Alfred Fee, and Ecclesiastes (Doodle) Fee.

Keith McLain, 45, of Rose Hill, passed away in on July 22nd. He was born on My 21, 1963 to Harold and Diadena McLain in Evarts, Ky. For the past 23 years he has resided in Lee County. He was a farmer and the Assistant Supervisor for the Lee County Department of Sanitation. He pastored Arthur’s Chapel Holiness church for the past 8 years. He was a loving husband and devoted father. He was preceded in death by his father James Harold McLain.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, July 27, at Arthurs Chapel Church with Rev. Richard Long, Rev. Larry Hensley, Rev. Stephen Vaughn, and Rev. Woodrow Fields officiating. (March 12, 1932 - July 25, 2008)

IVA PARKEY BRADFORD, 76, of Laonia, MI, formerly of Lee Co., passed away Friday, July 25. She was a member of Brightmoor Christian Church for 40 plus years. She was preceded in death by her parents, John & Ann Parkey, husband, Rob Bradford, son, Mike Bradford, and a brother Max Parkey.

SON: Terry & Karen Bradford

GRANDCHILDREN: Adam Bradford Blair Bradford

GREAT GRANDDAUGHTER: Hayden Call

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 Monday, July 28 at the Arney-Mullins Funeral Home in Rose Hill.

Graveside services will be at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 29 at Balls Chapel Cemetery in Rose Hill with Rev. Robert Charles Long officiating.
