(October 11, 1942 - February 1, 2010)

RANDALL CHADWELL, 67, of Ewing went to be with the Lord on February 1.
He was a loving and devoted husband. He was a saved at an early age and was an ordained deacon at Ewing First Baptist Church. He was retired from Bushline. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wheeler & Cassie Chadwell; two sisters, Bernice Chadwell and June Chadwell Brooks; and brother, Glen Chadwell.

Rose Hill, Virginia

George H. “Tucker” Lowe, 83, of Rose Hill, Virginia went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 4, 2010 while fishing on Martins Creek, one of his most loved hobbies.

Tucker was a loving husband, father, papaw, brother, uncle and a friend to all. He never met a stranger and will be dearly missed by all. He enjoyed fishing, running his dogs, watching sports, and being with his family and friends. He lived his life to the fullest every day.

He was a member of Rose Dale Baptist Church. He served in the Navy in WWII on a fleet of ships nicknamed the “Mighty Midgets”. He was a steel worker and was retired from United Mine Workers of America.

Preceded in death by, parents, Ed and Mary Lowe; great granddaughter, Kadence Lowe; brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Hope Lowe, Charles ”Gib” and Lois Lowe, Oscar and Nan Lee, Roscoe and Sarah Lee; one sister and brother-in-law, Lucille and Hobert Wilson.

Surviving, wife of 58 years, Wilma Seabolt Lowe, of the home.

Son and daughter-in-law, Jimbo and Angie Lowe, Rose Hill, VA.

Daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Don Long, Rose Hill, VA.

Six grandchildren, Stefanie, Jennifer, Mark, April and Wes, Dustin and Anthony.

Four great grandchildren, Tori, Makensie, Payton and Macee.

Two sisters, Ethel Brown and Gladys Cavins, Rose Hill, VA.

Two brothers, Roger “Buck” Lowe, Rose Hill, VA. and Hebert Lowe, Indianapolis, IN.

Lots of special nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends.

Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, February 6, 2010 at Arney-Mullins Funeral Home in Rose Hill, Virginia.

Funeral service will follow at 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Dennis Jones officiating.

Military graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Pace Cemetery in Rose Hill, Virginia with the Wise County Veterans Organization and Virginia National Guard Honors Team.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.

Joyce Elaine Dearry Caudill of Dryden, Va. was born in Lee County, Va. on Thursday, March 19, 1953 and went to Heaven of Saturday, February 6, 2010 at the Lee Regional Medical Center in Pennington Gap, Va. at the age of 56 years.

Joyce’s favorite saying was I’m out of here, I’m moving to the mountains. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Adam Paul Caudill, her father, Rastus Dearry, her mother, Ada Gibson Dearry, three sisters; Mary Ann Dearry, Doris Russell and Maggie Maness and three brothers; Joe Dearry, Cecil Dearry and William Dearry.

Joyce leaves behind her loving and devoted husband, Dallas Caudill, her daughter, Caroline Ann Noah and husband, Jeff of New Tazewell, TN., her son, Steven Glenn Caudill and wife, Shelly of Lynchburg, Va. Six grandchildren; Kayla Ayers of New Tazewell, TN., Josh Ayers, Alex Noah of New Tazewell, TN., Meghan Michelle and Candace Brooke Caudill of Rose Hill, Va. and Tyler White of Lynchburg, Va. and one great-granddaughter, Payten Singleton of New Tazewell, TN.

Joyce also leaves one sister, Shirley Martin of Dryden, Va. and three brothers; Kent Dearry of Dryden, Va., Loman Dearry of Dryden, Va. and Robert Dearry of Johnson City, TN. She will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Joyce’s lifelong, devoted and dearly loved friend Shirley Davis of Lynchburg, Va. will also miss her in her life.

The family will receive friends at the home of Dallas Caudill at anytime. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at the Province Funeral Home Sanctuary in Pennington Gap, Va. with Rev. Joe Dearry officiating.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Jones Cemetery in the Seminary Community of Dryden, VA

Lillian B. Cooper Parsons of Pucketts Creek, went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 5, 2010 at the age of 80 years at the Wellmont Lonesome Pine Hospital in Big Stone Gap, Va., after a long illness. She was born Sunday, June 23, 1929. She was preceded in death by her mother Cora Stapleton Cooper, father George Anderson Cooper, one infant son Gary Lynn Parsons, and her husband of 61 years, Eugene Martin Parsons.

Lillian is survived by five children: son Herman Lee Parsons of Berea, Ky., daughter, Charlotte Cooper and husband, Joe of Big Stone Gap, Va., son, Donald Ray Parsons of Pucketts Creek, Va., daughter, Suzanne Cope of Pennington Gap, ,Va., son, William Dudley Parsons and wife, Miriam of Sheridan, In., twelve grandchildren; Timothy Wade Parks and wife, Danielle of Maryville, TN., Chad Donald Parks of Pucketts Creek, Va., Heather Lea Parks Stringham and husband, Garry of West Jordan, UT., Richard Clark Cope of Pennington Gap, Va., Brian Ray Lee Cope of Pennington Gap, Va., Dylan Penner of Canada, Nathan Embry of Sheridan, In., Stephen Embry of Sheridan, In., Desiree Henshaw of Delaware, Drake Kelly of Chicago, Ill., Clark Kelly of Nashville, TN. and Diana Bolinsky of Terra Haute, In., nine great-grandchildren, two very special brothers-in-law, four very special sisters-in-law, very loved nephews, nieces and a host of relatives, friends and loved ones.

Mary Seals, 82, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 9 at Claiborne County Hospital. She was born on May 31, 1927. She was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church in Kaylor. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Seals; daughter, Ann Seals; parents, Ross & Emily Ramsey; brothers, Hubert, John & James Ramsey; and sister, Jeanette Roberts Ayers.

Catherine Sigmond
(August 24, 1927 - February 9, 2010)

Catherine Ann Conway Sigmond, 82, of Jonesville, Virginia and formerly of Erie, Pennsylvania and Clearwater, Florida passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at her residence in Jonesville, Virginia.

Catherine attended the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Jonesville, Virginia.

She is survived by:

Two sons and daughters-in-law, Craig Sigmond and wife, Randi, Jonesville, VA and Robert Sigmond and wife, Elizabeth, Wesley Chapel, Florida

Four grandchildren, John R. Sigmond and Betsy Sigmond Seaver and Lauren and Kirsten Sigmond

Mrs. Sigmond’s request to be cremated has been honored. Interment will be Monday, February 15 at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Clearwater, Florida.

Linda Cottrell of the Kemmerer Gem Community in St. Charles, Va. was born Saturday, June 2, 1951 and passed away Monday, February 8, 2010 at the Lee Regional Medical Center in Pennington Gap, Va. at the age of 58 years. She had lived in Lee County, Va. her entire life.

Linda had been a nurse for 19 years and was a member of the Darbyville Baptist Church in Kemmerer Gem, Va. She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell Cottrell, parents; Evan and Nannie Jessee Witt, one brother, Robert Witt and one sister, Anna Byington.

Linda is survived by one son, Darrell Wayne Cottrell, Jr. of Richmond, Va., two daughters, Rebecca May Garrett and husband, Travis of Pennington Gap, Va. and Rachel Le-Sharyl of St. Charles, Va., five grandchildren; Cody and Kara Owen, Ethan and Jard Wynn and Olivia Black, four brothers, Ray Witt of Dryden, Va., Johnny Witt of Kingsport, TN., Jackie Witt of St. Charles, Va. and Tony Witt of Pennington Gap, Va. and two sisters, Ella Carroll and Sandra Gibson both of Sticklevyille, Va.

Robert Pierce Chadwell

Robert Pierce Chadwell, 78, of Jonesville, Virginia, passed away Thursday (February 11, 2010) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tennessee.

He was a former employee of Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. in Noblesville, Indiana and was retired from Virginia Department of Transportation in Jonesville, Virginia. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force for four years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Ellen Chadwell; his wife, Teresa Chadwell; and one brother, Glen Chadwell.

Surviving are:

One daughter: Suzy McMahon and husband, Don of Noblesville, Indiana

Two sons: Robb Chadwell of Cicero, Indiana and Clark Chadwell and wife, Kim of Brunswick, Georgia

Eight Grandchildren: Ashton, Reid, and Aubrey McMahon; Leslie, Lauren, and Leah Chadwell; and Cayleigh and Hannah Kate Chadwell

Doris Smith of Woodway, Va. was born in St. Charles, Va. on Wednesday, August 16, 1916 and passed away Thursday, February 11, 2010 at her home at the age of 93 years. She retired as a cafe owner and operator and was a member of the First Baptist Church in St. Charles, Va. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Smith, five sons; Ronald Herman, Donald Hugh, Larry Wayne, Kenneth Leo and Roger Phillip Smith, her parents W.W. and Roxie Bailey Gilley and three brothers; Walter, Maurice and Hugh Clifton Gilley.

Doris is survived by one son, Dennis Keith Smith and wife, Debbie of Dryden, Va., eight grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a special sister-in-law, Ruby Smith, special niece, Onvis Laws, two daughters-in-law; Barbara Smith of Cleveland, Oh. and Roberta Smith of Woodway, Va. and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Billie O. Coeburn of the Long Hollow Community in Pennington Gap, Va. was born Saturday, November 7, 1931 in Virginia Lee, Va. and passed peacefully in her sleep Thursday, February 11, 2010 at the age of 78 years.

Billie worked for over 30 years as a Registered Nurse in and around the area. Billie was a member of the Rebecca Lodge # 50 in Pennington Gap, Va. She was diligent in her church and community works. She never met a stranger and touched many peoples lives. All that knew her awaken to find one less ray of sunlight in the world with her passing. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred R. Coeburn, Sr., one son, Anthony Tony Coeburn, one grandchild, Rebecca Elaine Newman, her beloved father and mother; Oscar and Pearly Osborne, two sisters; Doris Huff and Carol Woliver and three brothers; Harold Osborne, Donald Osborne and Bobby Ray Osborne.

Billie is survived by one son, Fred R. Coeburn, Jr. and wife, Hye Cha, one daughter, Linda C. Newman and husband, Thomas Jeff Newman, Sr., three grandchildren; Melissa Coeburn, T .J. Jonesville, VA

TICIA MAE COPE BLEVINS, 79, was born December 7, 1930 in Lee County Virginia where she made her home for most of her life. She departed this life at her home in Jonesville, Virginia on Friday, February 12, 2010 and entered into a much better place. She will be missed by all who knew her.

She was a loving mother and a great memaw to her grandchildren. She accepted the Lord as a small child and was a member of the Beech Grove Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James B. Cope and Roxie M. McCurry Cope; four brothers, Hubert L. Cope, Earnest R. Cope, Ronald W. Cope and Harold Cope; four sisters, Ina Faye Wilder, Emma K. Wilder, Lois Inez Shell and Norma Jean Cope.

On August 12, 1950 she married Samuel R. Blevins of Fleenors Chapel area of Jonesville, Virginia who died December 21, 2001.

She is survived by:

Two daughters, Arlene Carter of Jonesville, Virginia and Samantha (Sammie) Dickens and husband, Charles (Chuck) Dickens of Jonesville, Virginia

One granddaughter, Pamela Carter

Julia Cox Carroll of Anderson, In., was born in Keokee, Va. on Saturday, September 26, 1925 and passed away Friday, February 12, 2010 at the Community Hospital in Anderson, In. at the age of 84 years. She was formerly of Lee County, Va. and had been living in Anderson for the past ten years.

Julia retired as a seamstress and was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church in Jonesville, Va. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Silas Cox, Sr. and her second husband, Harding Carroll, her parents, Lige and Cynthia King, five sisters; Virgie King, Bessie Buchanan, Pearl Sowder, Reba Gibson and Ollie Mae Rutherford, two brothers; Leon King and RC King, one grandson, Jeremy Giddings and one granddaughter, Crystal Faith Martin.

Julia is survived by one son Richard Cox of Jonesville, Va. and two daughters; Judy Campbell of Anderson, In. and Pam Weismann of Pennington Gap, Va., three grandchildren, Candace Cox, Cindy Muss and Elizabeth Spurlock, two great-grandchildren and several loving nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be at 8:00 PM Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at the Province Funeral Home Sanctuary in Pennington Gap, Va. with Rev. Fred Cagle officiating.

James Graham, Sr.
(April 27, 1929 - February 14, 2010)

Pennington Gap, VA James V. (Jay) Graham, Sr. age 80, passed away Sunday Morning, February 14, 2010 at Lee Regional Medical Center.

Jay attended Pennington Schools, one year TMI and graduated from VPI with a degree in Dairy Husbandry. He delivered milk from his dairy farm all over Lee County. Jay, Jim and Bill Shelburne built and ran Grower's Tobacco Warehouse until it burned. Jay and Paris Burke started a small school furniture shop in Jonesville, VA. This later became Virginia Manufacturing Company which built and shipped cabinets, tables, and military furniture to every military base in the world.

Jay was also a Boy Scout Leader. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Pennington Gap, VA. He was a wonderful and precious Husband and Father, but most of all "he loved the Lord".

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, James V. Graham Sr. and Hattie Shelburne Graham. Two sisters, Betty Anne and Peggy Lou Graham. One daughter, Patty Lou Robbins LeGrant. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nancy Weston Graham. One daughter, Nancy Jayne, 2 sons, Jay Jr, and Matthew. 3 Granddaughters,Anne, Margaret, and Katy and husband Jason Lohmeyer. Special family members, Paul and Jo Glass, Andy and Cindy Robbins, and Bernard and Phyliss Weston. Many very special neices and nephews and a host of friends.

The family will recieve friends from 4 until 5:00 P.M. on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at Sturgill Funeral Home.

Memorial services will be held at 5:00 P. M. with Rev. Joel Campbell, Rev. Paul Davis, Jr, and Rev. Jim Myers officiating.

Jerry Eli Hughes, 64, of Carlisle, KY and formerly of the Stickleyville area of Duffield, VA (Lee County, VA) passed away Sunday, February 14, 2010 at Nicholas Co. Hospital.

He was born on February 16, 1945 in Duffield, Virginia to the late James Eli & Bessie Yeary Hughes, was a retired Lab Technician at Nicholas Co. Hospital and was a member of First Baptist Church of Carlisle.

He was also preceded in death by a wife, Elizabeth Price Hughes, a brother, Jim Hughes, a sister, Betty Coffman and a special nephew Dan Coffman.

He is survived by his wife, Marcia Ritchie Hughes; 2 sons, Rodney, (Becky) Hughes, Bristol, TN, and Robbie (Alicia) Hughes, Carlisle,KY; a daughter, Heather Bass, Bristol, VA; 3 step-daughters, Anessia (Brian) Watkins, Tonya (David Leech) Fryman and Dana (Chad) Price all of Carlisle,KY; 2 brothers, Ralph (Cinda) Hughes, Waynesville, Ohio & Robert “Red” Hughes, Dayton, Ohio; 2 sisters, Agnes (Randall) Purkey, Waynesville, Ohio & Vonda (Victor) Edwards, Jonesville, VA; 6 grandchildren, Ashley & Chelsea Bass, Aaron & Grace Hughes & Eli & Jay Hughes; 9 step-grandchildren, Shelby & Bryce Watkins, Chad Tyler Price, Claysa & Westin Fryman, Levi, JonDavid, Austin & Victoria Leech and a special step-grandson, Aaron Michael Fryman.

Services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday February 17 at Mathers-Gaunce F.H. by Rev. James Gaunce & Rev. Brenda Routt. Burial will follow in Carlisle Cemetery.

Geraldine R. (Gerry) Carter was called home to be with the Lord, February 15, 2010 at the age of 91 years at Lee Regional Medical Center in Pennington Gap after a long illness. She was born April 17, 1918 in Lee County, VA. She owned and operated Gerry's Cafe' for many years in Pennington Gap and worked at one time at the former Lee General Hospital in Pennington Gap, VA.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don R. Carter and one son, Pat N. Carter, parents, Commie T. and James Clyde McElyea. Two sisters, Grace Stewart and one brother, Bruce McElyea. She is survived by one son and wife, Danny R. and Sandra Carter. 5 Grandchildren; Erica and Brandi Carter, of Pennington Gap, VA, Dawn Gibson and husband, Gary of Kingsport, TN, Keith Carter and wife, Jeri of Greenville, SC, Kyle Carter and wife, Susan of Bristol, TN, 4 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Geraldine was a member of The Deep Springs Missionary Baptist Church. No formal visitation scheduled, Graveside services was held Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at 10:00 A. M. at Lee Memorial Gardens in Woodway, Virginia with Brother Lee Brewer, Deep Springs Missionary Baptist Church conducting the service.

Gene L. Robbins
(April 25, 1928 - February 17, 2010)

Gene L. Robbins of the Cedar Hill Community in Jonesville, Virginia, passed away February 17, 2010 at the Wellmont Lee Regional Medical Center in Pennington Gap, Virginia at the age of 81.

Mr. Robbins served in the U.S. Navy from July 1945 to March 1950 and was employed post-war by the American Brakeshoe Company of Meadville, PA. He retired from Schwerman Trucking Company and then became Garage Manager for the Batesville Casket Company’s Manchester, TN facility. He and his wife retired to Palatka, FL in 1979, then moved to Jonesville, VA in 2005 to live with his youngest daughter, Mary and her husband, Douglas. Mr. Robbins was a Kentucky Colonel and a lifetime member of the American Legion. He, along with several fellow Legion members, revived the Bert Hodge Post #45 in Palatka, FL. He became a member of Post 185 in Jonesville and was also a member of the Cedar Hill Christian Church family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Mildred Robbins of Titusville, PA.

He is survived by:

His wife of 62 years: Betty F. June Robbins of Jonesville, Virginia

One son: Kenneth Robbins and wife, Jan of Milford, Ohio

Two daughters: Carole R. Louviere of Lawrenceville, Georgia and Rev. Mary L. Kinser and husband, Douglas of Jonesville, Virginia

Five grandsons, who will also serve as pallbearers: Andrew Robbins and wife, Colleen of Milford, Ohio; Matthew Louviere and Casey Louviere, both of Lawrenceville, Georgia; and Captain Patrick E. Kinser and J.D. Kinser, both of Gardnerville, Nevada

Three great-grandchildren: Noah Louviere and Anabel and Madelyn Louviere

Five sisters: Maj. Mary Ann Dalessio (US Army Ret.), Nancy Kalkbrenner, Beth Lingo, Eva Elliot, and Meta Frambaugh

Multiple nieces and nephews

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday at the Arney-Mullins Funeral Home in Jonesville, Virginia.

Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Jim Myers officiating. Burial will follow a Naval service in the Kinser Family Cemetery on Cedar Hill.

Roger Lee Bledsoe of Dryden, Va. was born in Lee County, Va. on Wednesday, February 15, 1956 and passed away, Thursday, February 18, 2010 at the Lee Regional Medical Center in Pennington Gap, Va. at the age of 54 years. He had been a resident of Dryden, Va. most his life.

Roger was a carpenter for McPherson Construction and of the Baptist Faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bascom and Geneva Gibson Bledsoe, one sister, Myrna Calton, one brother, Jim Bledsoe, grandmother, Etta Burton and several uncles.

Roger is survived by his wife, Carol Biggs Bledsoe of the home, two daughters, Kendra Burgin and Emily Burgin both of the home, three brothers, Robert Bledsoe of Pennington Gap, Va., Ricky Bledsoe of Fredericksburg, Va. and Bascom Slemp Bledsoe, Jr. and wife, Darlene of Augusta, Ga., five sisters; Elsie Mae Middleton and husband, Donnie of Woodway, Va., Mary Vernon and husband, Willis of Ohio, Patricia Crisp of South Carolina, Helen Heart-Shorn and Margie Garrett of Pennington Gap, Va.

Pennington Gap,VA/Chesterfield, VA Jasper Andy Riddle, 73, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, February 18, 2010 at Chesterfield, VA.

After serving in the Air Force for nine and a half years, A.J. went on to study and graduate with degrees from the University of Kentucky, Union College, East Tennessee State, and received a doctorate from Kingsway Bible College.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rebecca and John Riddle, and siblings, John R.S. Riddle and Albla R. Henrich.

Survivors include siblings: Peggy Salisbury, her husband, Clarence, and Palmer Dean Riddle, and wife, Patricia; neices and nephews, Nick Salisbury, Teresa Eastman, Virginia Kolb, LaShanda Crouch, Priscilla Klaus, and Travis Riddle; 10 great nieces and nephews, and one great great nephew.

Luther Luke Henry Bruner of Dryden, VA. was born on Tuesday, April 30th 1935 in Kingsport, TN. and passed away Saturday, February 20th 2010 at Wellmont Lee Regional Medical Center in Pennington Gap, VA. at the age of 74 years.

Luke was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and a retired truck driver. He was a member of the Eagles Club and of the Baptist faith. He had been a resident of Lee County, VA. since 1974. He was preceded in death by his parents, Perry and Edna Riggs Fritts.

Luke is survived by his wife, Lynda Vaughn Bruner of the home, daughter, Beverly Evans Ramey and husband, Chris of Dot, VA. three grandchildren, Dameion, Matthew and Tyler Livesay, seven brothers, three sisters and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral services will be held at 8:00 P.M. Tuesday Febuary 23, 2010 at the Province Funeral Home Santuary in Pennington Gap, Va with Rev. James Snapp officiating.

Born In Pardee,VA on April 21, 1925 to Verna Hubbard Arnold and Gains Talmadge Arnold.

She married Robert Coolidge Clark who lives in Norton, VA

She was preceded in death by both parents, her youngest brother, Franklin Darrel Arnold and sister, Helen Church.

Surviving her, are her daughter, Anna (Loretta) Getso and husband Lawrence. Granddaughter, Tracy Lynn Graham, Great grandchildren, JoAnna and Christopher Graham, all live in Texas. 3 sisters, Clarinda Alvenia Livesey, Clinton, TN. She was a lifelong resident of Pennington Gap and was a retired school teacher. She was also a long time member of the D.A.R. and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Pennington Gap.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Patton Kelly, by two sisters, Lorene Kelly, Hazel Sharpe, and Elizabeth Turpen, and by brothers, Bill and Harold Kelly.

She is survived by many special nieces, nephews and their families ,and by her special care givers.

Edna was of the Baptist faith. She was a homemaker, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Pennington Gap, VA Donald R. Browning, age 70 passed away Saturday, February 27, 2010 in Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital. Don was born in Washington County, VA, and was raised in Abingdon, VA. He was a graduate of William King High School in Abingdon and attended Emory and Henry College.

He had resided in Lee County since 1965.

He was a member of the Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Woodway, VA

He was a retired employee of Virginia Department of Transportation after 48 years of service. His last position was as Maintenance Operations Manager.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jesse J. Browning,Sr. and his mother Hazel Ruth Hamilton.

Surviving are his loving wife of 43 years, Garda Turner Browning, daughter, Natalie Browning of Black Mountain, NC. Brother, Jesse J. Browning, Jr, and wife Lorie of Redwood City, CA. Lovada Wilder Cope, 73, of Lee County, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, February 28, 2010 at Claiborne County Hospital in Tazewell, Tennessee.

She was of the Baptist faith and a member of Beech Grove Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harrison and Paralee Wilder; her husband, Warren Fred Cope; and four sisters, Rosa Wilder, Nancy Harvel, Barbara K. Wilder, and William Wilder.

Lovada is survived by:

One son: Campbell Cope and wife, Teresa of Pennington Gap, Virginia.

Three daughters: Onedia "Okey" Cope of Rose Hill, Virginia; Debra Moore and husband, Tim of Rose Hill, Virginia; and Kim Parsons and husband, Kelly of Jonesville, Virginia

Six grandchildren: Miranda Elliott and husband, Paul; Ashley Hines; Afton Cope; Makayla Moore; Chelsey Parsons; and Dillon Parsons

Three sisters: Margie Minor, and husband, Virgil of Jonesville, Virginia; Ruby Jerrell and husband, Grover of Rose Hill, Virginia; and Sue Harvel and husband, Joe of Jonesville, Virginia

One brother: Robert Wilder and wife, Mabel of Trinity, North Carolina

Several nieces and nephews

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Arney-Mullins Funeral Home in Jonesville, Virginia.

Funeral service will follow at 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jack Cope officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Beech Grove Cemetery in Jonesville, Virginia.

Those attending the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery.

Peggy Fleenor
(July 15, 1950 - February 27, 2010)

Dryden, VA

Peggy J. Fleenor, age 59, passed away Saturday, February 27, 2010 at Lee Regional Medical Center. She was a lifelong resident of Lee County, the daughter of the late Goldie and Paul Fleenor. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Pauline Fleenor Kingery and Wanda Sue Fleenor. One brother, Bill Fleenor, one great nephew, Samuel Harley.

She is survived by daughter, Pam Fleenor Dillman and husband, James of Dryden, VA. Three grandsons, Marcus Fleenor, Jordan and Brandon Dillman. One sister, Mary Ann Mullins of Woodway, VA. One brother, Roger Fleenor and wife, Chanda of Poor Valley. Three nieces, Rhonda Bishop and Sherry Minton of Maryville, TN, and Stephanie Reynolds of Duffield, VA. One nephew, Steve Harley, Indianapolis, IN. Great nieces and nephews, Emily and Alex Minton, Lauren, Ethan and Jadelyn Reynolds. Special friends and care helpers, Bill and Maxine Collins.

My mother's family did not stop with these members. There were an abundance of friends who called daily, visited, and who loved my mother dearly that were as much family as if blood related.

Family will receive friends from 6 to 9:00PM on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at Sturgill Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00PM Thursday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. David Jones officiating.

Interment will follow at Lee Memorial Gardens. Special music provided by the Brittons.

Alice Marie Goins of Pennington Gap, Va. was born in Lee County on Sunday, January 26, 1936 and passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at the Holston Valley Hospital in Kingsport, TN. at the age of 74 years. She had been a resident of Pennington Gap her entire life.

Alice was a member of the First Christian Church in Pennington Gap and the Rebekah Lodge. She was preceded in death by her father and mother Henry and Pearl (Lawson) Goins, three sisters Haline Goins King, Ella Mae Goins and Cathy Goins Fields and two brothers John Henry Goins and Jack Goins.

Alice is survived by three brothers; Clarence Goins and wife, Dovie, Charles Goins and Danny Goins and wife, Paula all of Pennington Gap, Va., five sisters; Shirley Orr and husband, Clarence of Pennington Gap, Va., Rita Fern Potter of Mentor, OH., Geneva Goins Allen of East Stone Gap, Va., Brenda Ownbey and husband, Nick of Dalton, Ga. and Helen Warren of Mooresville, N.C. And a host of nieces, nephews and many friends.

The funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, March 6, 2010 at the Province Funeral Home Sanctuary in Pennington Gap, Va. with Rev. Bob Richard officiating.

The visitation will be from 1:00 PM until the time of service on Saturday, March 6, 2010.

Burial will follow at the Cecil-Fry Cemetery in Pennington Gap, Va.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the First Christian Church in Pennington Gap, Va.

Warren Cottrell
(March 3, 1922 - March 4, 2010)

Pennington Gap, VA

Warren Craig Cottrell, age 88 passed away Thursday, March 4, 2010 at Lee Nursing and Rehab Center after a period of declining health.

He was born in Hopkinsville,KY, March 3, 1922 to Marsh J. and Mellie Cottrell.

Warren served in the U.S. Army from 1942 until 1946. He was a member of the famed 82nd Airborne Division, C Company, 504th parachute infantry regiment. He fought in the European Theatre during WWII. He participated in combat jumps D-Day,Operation Market Garden, Battle of the Bulge in Bastogne. He also participated in the liberation of Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. Wounded in Merken, Germany, he was the recipient of two Purple Hearts during his service.

He worked most of his life in the coal mines, retiring from West Moreland Coal Company in 1984.

Warren was of the Baptist faith and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pennington Gap.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Otey Cottrell and sister, Helen Cottrell House.

Surviving are his wife, Jean Lewis Cottrell of the home. Daughter, Ann Cottrell Bowery of Kingsport, TN. Grandson: Daniel Bowery, Kingsport, TN.

Granddaughter, Rachel Bowery of Knoxville, TN and a host of other family and friends.

Visitation will be from 1 until 3:00 P. M. Sunday, March 7, 2010 at Sturgill Funeral Home of Pennington Gap with Rev. Paul Davis, Jr. officiating.

Military graveside rights will be held in Lee Memorial Gardens in Woodway, VA by the Wise County Military Organizations and the Virgina National Guard Honors Team.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff of Lee Nursing and Rehab for all their love,care, and compansion through this journey. Also, special care givers, David and Darlene Osborne for all they have done for Warren and Jean. Thanks to Lisa and the staff at Ruby's Steakhouse for all the delicious food. Warren had a special place in his heart for his grandson Daniel, his favorite care giver for the last few years.

Warren was a wonderful man who will be missed by all that knew and loved him.
