Jane Seale, 61, of Rose Hill, Virginia passed away Saturday, April 24, 2010 at her residence.

She had lived most of her life in Lee County.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thurston “Pud” Seale; parents, Clement and Georgia Farley and a son, Joseph Anthony Seale.

She is survived by:

One son: Thurston Lee Seale, Jr., Rose Hill, VA

Three daughters: Amy Elizabeth Argabrite, Beckley, West VA, Danaye Seale, Rose Hill, VA and Destine Young, Rose Hill, VA

Five grandchildren: Megan Seale, Ashley Argabrite, Joseph Argabrite, Kaylee Seale and Sydney Seale.

Memorial service will be at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at Arney Mullins Funeral Home Chapel in Rose Hill with Rev. Tommy Thomas officiating.

Sherrie Edwards, 47, went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 26, 2010.

She was a lifelong resident of Lee County and a school teacher at Rose Hill Elementary School.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Quinton D. Edwards.

Surviving are:

Her father and mother: Carl & Alma Monday of Rose Hill, Virginia

One sister: Carla Yeary and husband, Robert of Rose Hill, Virginia

Nieces: Whitley Hollandsworth and Sydney Yeary

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 28 at Arney-Mullins Funeral Home in Rose Hill, Virginia.

Funeral services will follow at 8 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Norman Clark officiating.

Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 29 at Lee Memorial Gardens Park West.

Those wishing to go to the graveside are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. to go in procession.

Joshua Wayne Ridings age 20, of Dryden, Va. went home to be with the Lord Sunday, April 25, 2010 in Kingsport, TN, following injuries received in an auto accident. Josh was born Wednesday, September 1, 1989 in Thomaston, Ga. He was a loving and giving son, brother, uncle, godfather, cousin, grandson, nephew and friend.

Josh touched the life of every person who knew him. He made us laugh when we wanted to cry and smile when we wanted to frown. Josh was determined to give his life meaning. He wanted to change the lives of others for the better. With his death he was able to give eight strangers a new chance of life through his organ donation. He was a true hero in life and in death, to his parents, family and friends. All who knew Josh would describe him as a ray of light, beacon of happiness, and a shining star.

Josh knew no strangers, and has more friends than one could count, everyone who knew him loved him. He would want to be remembered by his smile, his laugh, his giving spirit, his sense of humor, his intelligence and his heart.
Josh was a graduate of Powell Valley High School class of 2007. Josh was employed by Sykes in Wise, Va. as a members service representative. Josh will be missed by all. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Odie Ridings, paternal grandmother, Maude Ridings, maternal grandfather, Brownie Lipps and maternal grandmother Lucille Lipps.

Josh is survived by his loving parents, Sandy and Greg Ridings of Dryden, Va., his brother, Greg Allen Ridings II of Big Stone Gap, Va., Sister-in-law, Melissa Yorke of Big Stone Gap, Va., godson and nephew, Jackson Ridings of Big Stone Gap, Va., his brother, Jason Moore and wife, Kelly and nephews, Cory Moore, Cameron Moore and Blakey Moore of Dryden, Va. and several aunts, uncles, cousins and countless friends.

he funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, April 30, 2010 at the Province Funeral Home Sanctuary in Pennington Gap, Va. with Rev. Duke Barker, Rev. Clyde Hester and Rev. John Dickerson officiating.

Burial will follow at Lee Memorial Gardens in Woodway, Va.

The visitation will be from 6:00 to 9:00 PM Thursday April 29, at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Greg Allen Ridings II, Jason Moore, Casey Bentley, Michael Austin, Chris Akins, Robbie Middleton, Kenny Stanley, Michael Mullins, Leonard Bowen and Brandon Bentley with many others to follow.

Josh’s family would like to thank each and every person who offered their support and condolences during this difficult time. Josh’s parents would like each of them to always remember how Josh touched their life and made a difference. The family would like to give special thanks to Emily and Sidney for their support.

Orbin Lee Lawson of Woodway, Va. was born in South Carolina on Monday, January 10, 1921 and passed away at his home Thursday, April 29, 2010 at the age of 89 years. He had lived in Lee County most of his life.

Orbin retired as a coal miner and was a member of the UMW of A and a member of the First Baptist Church in St. Charles, Va. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty Lawson, and one great-granddaughter.

Orbin is survived by seven sons; Charles Lee Lawson of Woodway, Va., Wayne Lawson and wife, Wanda of Woodway, Va., Ronnie Lawson of Jonesville, Va., Danny Lawson and wife, Reba of Woodway, Va., Mitchell Lawson and wife, Kathy of Pennington Gap, Va., Gary Lawson of Pennington Gap, Va. and Earl Lawson of wife, Brenda of Jonesville, Va., one daughter, Kay Lawson of Woodway, Va., 16 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren and two brothers, Harrison Lawson of Jonesville, Va. and Willie Lawson of Woodway, Va.

The funeral service will be held at 8:00 PM Saturday, May 1, 2010 at the Province Funeral Home Sanctuary in Pennington Gap, Va. with Paul Davis, Jr. officiating.
Visitation will be from 6:00 PM Saturday until the time of the service.

The graveside service will be at 1:00 PM Sunday, May 2, 2010 at the Powell Valley Cemetery in Dryden, Va.

Mable Lyttle, a resident of Jonesville, Va. was born in Castlewood, Va. on Saturday, February 17, 1917 and passed away at the Lee Nursing Home on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at the age of 93.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lillie Sutherland Sutphin, her husband, John Lyttle, two sons, Jimmy and Johnny Lyttle, two daughters, Dorothy Lyttle and Norma Lawson and a grandson, Billy Wayne Lawson. She lived in Willoughby, Ohio for several years where she retired from the Jellico Rubber Co. She lived about 50 years in Lee Co. and was of the Baptist faith.

Mable is survived by 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 7: PM Saturday in the Sanctuary of the Province Funeral Home in Jonesville, Va. with Rev. Jim Marshall officiating.

Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until time of the service Saturday.

The graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Sunday at the Bethel Cemetery on Sugar Run.

The family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 AM Sunday to go to the cemetery.

Freddie R. Crisp, 65 of Bowling Green, Ky. and formerly of Pennington Gap, Va. went to rest Thursday, April 29, 2010 at the Medical Center in Bowling Green, Ky. He was born in Phoenix, Arizona on Thursday, March 15, 1945 and had lived most of his life in Lee County, Va.

Freddie had retired as a coal miner. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roman and Bennie Mae (Laws) Crisp.

Freddie is survived by his wife of 45 years, Madonna Crisp of the home, two daughters, Karla Long and husband, Robert of Bowling Green, Ky. and Kim Pennington of Horse Cave, Ky., one son, Brian Crisp and wife, Terri of Bowling Green, Ky., former son-in-law, Chris Pennington of Stickleyville, Va., eight grandchildren, Jessica Strong, Jordan Long, Matthew Pennington, Madyson Pennington, Courtney Crisp, McKenzie Crisp, Savannah Crisp and Brianna Crisp, two brothers, Gary Crisp and wife, Belinda of South Carolina and Michael Crisp of Muncie, In., two sisters, Sue Conway and husband, Larry of Muncie, In. and Betty Jo Bryant and husband, Tom of North Carolina and several nieces and nephews.

Dottie June Wells Tindell, 72, of Pennington Gap, Virginia, passed away Tuesday (May 4, 2010) at Lee Nursing and Rehab Center in Pennington Gap, Virginia.

She was born and raised in Seminary and was a resident of Lee Nursing and Rehab Center for the past two years. She was of the Methodist faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Letcher and Angie Collie Wells; brothers, Bill, Jack, Hubert, and Art Wells; and two sisters, Betty W. Fleenor and Nina Taylor.

Surviving are:

One son: John Wesley Tindell of Kingsport, Tennessee

One daughter: Sherry Johnson and husband, Van of Jonesville, Virginia

Three grandchildren: Matthew Johnson, Kelleye Swanson and husband, Eric; and Lexie Johnson

Amos Ray Robbins of the Cane Creek Community in Pennington Gap, Va. was born in Keokee, Va. on Wednesday, April 8, 1936 and passed away, Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at the Lee Regional Medical Center in Pennington Gap, Va. at the age of 74 years. He had lived in Lee County his entire life.

Ray was a retired coal miner and was a member of the UMW of A and he attended the St. Charles Church of God. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Nelson and Dora E. Carroll Robbins, brothers and sisters, Jack, Fred, Tess, Eula and Jurleen and half-brother, Lonnie Parsons.

Ray is survived by his wife, Violet Rose Robbins of the home, three daughters, Freda Gill and husband, Bill of Big Stone Gap, Va., Connie Woodard and husband, Rick of Poor Valley and Vonda Leon of Poor Valley, three step-sons Sam Rose and wife, Amanda of Pennington Gap, Va., Josh Holman of Pennington Gap, Va. and Larry Dingus of the home, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Anna Lee Rasnick age 73 a resident of the Klondyke Community in Stickleyville, Va. was born in Lee County, Va. on Thursday, September 24, 1936 and passed away Thursday, May 6, 2010 at the Lee Regional Medical Center in Pennington Gap, Va. due to a long illness.

Anna was of the Baptist Faith. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Samuel Graham, her parents, Hubert and Nannie Young and Earl Smith.

Anna is survived by her loving husband, Eulice Rasnick of the home, three sons, Samuel Graham and wife, Tammy of Ohio, Thomas Graham and wife, Sheila of Stickleyville, Va. and Bobby Graham of Ohio, one sister, Edna Ward of Stickleyville, Va., five half-sisters; Kathy Mullins and Lillian Combs both of Stickleyville, Va., Emma Irwin and Susie Neice both of Durant, Ok. and Alice Shimmick of Atlanta, Ga., one step-sister, Diane Everton of Greenville, In., two half-brothers, Don Smith of Nighttown, In. and Tom Smith of Atlanta, Ga., eight grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Bess Brooks 89, Ewing, Virginia went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 9, 2010.

She was born in Claiborne County, Tennessee and resided most of her life in Lee County, Virginia.

Bess was a member of the Chadwell Station Baptist Church and was actively involved in many community clubs and organizations.

She was preceded in death by parents, Charles Alexander Brooks and Eliza Jane Redmond Brooks; husband, Hoye Lee Brooks; brothers, James, Delbert and Willard Brooks; and sisters, Margaret Brooks, Carrie King and Ethyl Lee Stone.

She is survived by:

Josephine Hughes, a resident of Bulls Gap, Tn. was born in Persia, Hawkins Co., Tn. on Saturday, October 12, 1918 and departed this life on Saturday, May 8, 2010 at her home at the age of 91 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Hughes, infant son Stephan, grandson, Jimmy Hughes, her parents, Sam and Jessie Lee Arnott, brother, Sam Arnott, Jr. and sister-in-law Gertrude Arnott.

Jo formerly lived in St. Charles and has lived in Tennessee for the past 31 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bulls Gap.

Jo is survived by one son, Sammy Hughes and wife Shirley, one daughter, Susan Hicks and husband Gary, all of Rogersville, Tn. Granddaughter, Sheila Mayes of Williamsburg, Va. Grandsons, Steve and Marty Hughes and Keith Long and wife Regina, all of Rogersville, Tn. Great-grandchildren, Jessica and Michael Seneker, Daniel, Sondra, Dustin and Jason Hughes, Logan, Kayden, Ethan and Eli Long and Abby Marcum. Three great-great-grandchildren. Virginia Ely

Pennington Gap, VA

Virginia Fry Ely, 83, passed away Saturday, May 8, 2010 at Lee Health and Rehabilitation after a lengthy illness. Virginia, the daughter of John Mack and Sallie Ann Young Fry, was born in Pennington Gap on May 13, 1926. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two sisters, Rebecca Rhea and Dortha Caskey, and her brother John Mack Fry, Jr.

Virginia graduated from Pennington High School in 1943 and Mary Washington College in Fredricksburg, Va in 1946. She taught in the Lee County School System for 37 years: St. Charles High (1946-1952), Dry Branch School (1953-54), and Pennington High School (1954-1986.)

Virginia loved her family and her church, The First United Methodist Church in Pennington Gap. Before her illness, she was very involved in the United Methodist Women, The Rebecca Circle, and the Church Choir. She and her sisters, Rebecca Rhea and Dortha Caskey, locally known as "The Fry Sisters" sang often for church and community events.

Virginia is survived by her husband of 62 years, J. N. Ely, Jr. of Pennington Gap, daughters: Sue Ann and husband Jim of Callao, Va., Rebecca Jane and husband David of Pennington Gap, Vera Virgina Ely of Jonesville, Va., and son, Joe Thomas and wife Tracy of Pennington Gap. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Jill S. Herren of Cookeville, TN, Cyndi Harber of Pennington, Charlee Johnson of Centreville, VA and Joshua Johnson of Pennington Gap, and three great-grandchildren: Crystie and Noah Harber of Pennington Gap, and Jared Herren of Cookeville, TN, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 11th at The First United Methodist Church from 6-8 pm with the funeral at 8pm conducted by Rev. James A. Salmon, son-in-law.

The graveside services will be at Cecil-Fry Cemetery on Wednesday, May 12th at 12 noon.

George William Roberts age 95, a long time resident of Dryden passed away, Sunday, May 9, 2010 at Lee Nursing and Rehab Center. He was member of the Dryden Methodist Church and was a member of the Dryden Masonic Lodge #326 AF & AM. He was a retired coal Miner,with Westmoreland Coal Company after 40 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey William Roberts and Myrtle Gillespie and his wife Ruth Buchanan Roberts in 1995

He is survived by two sons, William (Bill) Roberts and wife Cathleen of Kingsport, TN, James Wade Roberts and wife Elsie of Las Vegas, NE . 2 Brothers, Robert Roberts and wife Marie of Saltville, VA, Roy Roberts and wife Margaret of Marion, VA, one sister, Janet Harris and husband Gordon of Saltville, VA. One grandaughter, Melissa Denise Roberts of Kingsport, TN. and a special person and friend, Pearl Holmes.

Terry Glen Barber a resident of Jonesville, Va. was born in Pennington Gap, Va. on Thursday, April 26, 2010 and passed away at his residence on Sunday, May 9, 2010 at the age of 48 years. He had lived in Lee County his entire life and was of the Baptist Faith.

Lonnie Long, 61, of Rose Hill, Virginia, passed away Monday (May 10, 2010) at his residence.

He was a lifelong resident of Lee County, Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard “Luck” Long and Pearl Long and one sister, Edith Long Smith.

One son: Donnie Lee Long of Texas

One daughter: Pearl Long Gray and husband, Tony of Simpsonville, Kentucky

Six step children: Ronnie Cooper, Bennie Cooper, Allen Thomas, Diane Long, Annette Walker, and Jeanette Thomas

Two grandchildren: Brandon and Heather Gray

She was the daughter of the late Kelsey and Carrie (Taylor) Terry.

Irene B. Crawford a resident of Pennington Gap, Va. was born in Dryden, Va. on Tuesday, March 23, 1920 and passed away Thursday, May 13, 2010 at the Lee Regional Medical Center in Pennington Gap, Va. at the age of 90 years. She had lived in Lee County most of her life.

Irene had been a homemaker and was of the Baptist Faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Crawford, one son, Paul Crawford, three brothers, Paul Boggs, J.P. Boggs and Richard Boggs and three sisters, Inez Boggs, Clora Ball and Barbara McKinney.

Irene is survived by two sons, James Crawford of the home and Coy Crawford of Hendersonville, NC. Ten grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and one sister ,Shirley Lawson of Dryden, Va.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Sunday May 16, 2010 at the Province Funeral Home Sanctuary in Pennington Gap, Va. with Paul Davis, Jr. officiating.

Puttie Wilder a resident of Jonesville, Va. was born in the Steep Rock Community of Jonesville, Va. on Friday, September 28, 1917 and passed away Thursday, May 13, 2010 at the Lee Regional Medical Center in Pennington Gap, Va. at the age of 92 years. He had lived in Lee County, Va. his entire life.

Puttie had been a Veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, he was a retired farmer and attended the Church of God of Prophecy in Jonesville, Va. He was preceded in death by his parents, Patty and Dorcis Wilder, one sister, Ressie Crawford and one daughter-in-law, Annetta Wilder.

Puttie is survived by his wife, Georgia Wilder of the home, two sons, Denver Wilder and wife, Wanda of Volina, In. and Lawrence Wilder of Deerborn Heights, Mi., seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Wylie Wilder of Jonesville, Va. two sisters, Dolly Jones of Jonesville, Va. and Christine Robison of Morristown, TN., special friend, Thelma Moore of Jonesville, Va. and a host of nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 8:00 PM Saturday, May 15, 2010 at the Province Funeral Home Sanctuary in Jonesville, Va. with Rev. George Flanary officiating.

Gerald Laney

Stickleyville, VA Gerald N. Laney, age 73 passed away Saturday, May 15, 2010 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, TN.

Gerald was born in Maiden, NC on August 14, 1936, the son of the late William Calvin and Maggie Williams Laney. After graduating high school, he attended Wingate Jr. College and graduated from the University of NC at Raleigh.

He retired as assistant Professor of Drafting at Mountain Empire Community College in Big Stone Gap having taught there since 1974

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Verity Sarah Laney and brother Jack Laney.

Survivors include: his wife of 39 years, Wendy Read Laney of the home. Son: Matthew Charles Laney of Annandale, VA. One brother, William Calvin Laney, Jr. of Catawba County, NC and niece Caryen Laney MacLuan of Glen Burnie

Private memorial services will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P. O. Box 1000, Department 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.

Wanda Carter age 50 and a resident of the Big Hill Community in Pennington Gap, Va. was born in Harlan, Ky. on Thursday, October 29, 1959 and went to be with her Lord Thursday, May 20, 2010 at her home after a battle with multiple myeloma. She had lived in Lee County, Va. her entire life.

Wanda was a homemaker and a member of the Thomas Village Baptist Church in Duffield, Va. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Beverly Huff and one sister, Lena Garrett.

Wanda is survived by her husband, Danny Carter, Sr. of the home, two sons, Danny Rha Carter, Jr. of Madison, CT. and Clint Carter of the home, two daughters, Valerie Hammonds of Stickleyville, Va. and Nicole Carter of the home, two precious grandchildren, Zachary and Cassidy Hammonds, two sisters, Debbie Martin of Ben Hur, Va. and Barbara Reece of Lenoir City, TN and a special niece, Christina Martin of Woodway, Va.

Harry Q. Canter of Woodway, Va. was born Thursday, July 3, 1918 and passed away to Heaven Thursday, May 20, 2010 at the Lee Regional Medical Center in Pennington Gap, Va. at the age of 91 years.

Harry was a member of the UMW of A. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Sonja Perscilla Williams, son son, Charles H. Canter and two grandsons, Charles Adam Canter and Mark Dee Canter.

Harry is survived by his wife of 71 years, Thelma Irene Canter of the home, sons, Johnny Canter and family of Blackwater, Va., Denver R. Canter and family of Adgar, Al. and Eddie Canter and family of Jonesville, Va., daughters, Ava Gail Bishop and family of Pennington Gap, Va., Linda I. Fausnight and family of Dot, Va., Judy E. Bishop and family of Woodway, Va. and Brenda Shupe and family of Kingsport, TN. He is also survived by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other family and friends.

Sada Bishop

Jonesville, VA

Sada Lee Gilbert Bishop, 106 passed away on May 19, 2010 in Jonesville, at the residence of Judy Collins, a longtime friend and caregiver. She was born and raised at Dryden, later graduated from the State Teacher's College at Radford, VA. She enjoyed all her 47 years of teaching in Lee County School System at Bonny Blue, Elk Knob and Dryden Elementary.

Sada was preceded in death by her parents, Elbert M. and Minnie Crabtree Gilbert; her husband, Clyde Bishop, five brothers, Ray, Frank, Dana, Joe, Letcher; and one sister, Kitty Shelburne. Having had no children of her own, she is survived by five nephews, Ben, Don, Sidney, John and Jack to whom she was very devoted. Her extended family was of utmost importance to her. She was dedicated to a participation in various organizations, but particularly to her membership to the Dryden Methodist Church. The United Daughters of the Confederacy, and the Daughters of the Confederacy, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Genealogy was her main hobby, not only of her own family, but that of friends as well.

Visitation will be held on Friday at the Dryden Methodist Church from 1 until 3 p. m. followed by funeral services with Pastor Vince Krauss in charge.

Graveside services will follow at Powell Valley Cemetery in Dryden. Pallbearers will be her nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be Ralph Cox, Charles Cox, Harold Jessee, James Gibson ,Jr. Peters, and C. W. Adams.

Nadine Gibson a resident of Pennington Gap, Va. was born in Big Stone Gap, Va. on Saturday, October 23, 1926 and passed away Thursday, May 20, 2010 at the Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, TN at the age of 83 years. She had lived in Lee County, Va. most of her life.

Nadine had been a garment factory supervisor and was a born again Christian. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carter Gibson, father Mr. Sherman and mother, Mrs. Yeary Sherman, three brothers and four sisters.

Nadine is survived by her two sons, Dan Gibson and wife, Linda of Pennington Gap, Va. and Don Gibson and wife, Teresa of Sorrento, La., one daughter Margaret Lambert and husband, Michael of Falls Mill, Va., seven grandchildren, Jason Gibson and wife, Tanya, Nathan Gibson, Jordan Gibson, La Donya Griffin and husband, Justin, Vanessa Gibson, Talitha LeBlanc and husband, David and Tesia Gibson, three great-grandchildren, Bryson Griffin, Bradon Carter Griffin and Addison Grace Gibson. William Whitford Burgan of Big Stone Gap, Va. was born in Jonesville, Va. on Wednesday, January 6, 1937 and passed away on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at the Lonesome Pine Hospital in Big Stone Gap, Va. at the age of 73. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Maxie Burgan, his only son, Billy Ray Burgan and one brother, Ralph Burgan.

William was a retired coal truck driver, a member of the UMW of A. He has been a resident of Lee Co. for most of his life and was a member of the Pine Grove Baptist Church. Lue had been a cook for the public school system and was of the Pentecostal Faith. She was preceded in death by two sons, Billy Joe and Jessee Allen McAlister, her parents, WM and Roberta McCann and one brother, Kim McCann.Lue is survived by her husband, David McAlister and special granddaughter, Jessie Leighann McAlister both of the home, two daughters, Mary Jones of Rogersville, TN and Evelyn Lawson of Duffield, two sons, Randy McAlister of Jonesville, and DJ McAlister of Rogersville, TN, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three brothers ,Hubert McCann and Jimmy McCann both of Wallens Creek and Bobby McCann of Duffield, one sister, Peggy Butler of Duffield and several nieces and nephews.

Anne H. Jones, 87 of Jonesville passed away at home on Sunday, May 30, 2010. Anne was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

She was a telephoning pioneer by operating one of the first C&P telephone switchboards in Jonesville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. Jones; infant daughter, Sarah Patricia Jones; brother, Dr. Benjamin Hines; sister, Virginia Allen.

Maxine Land
(July 3, 1927 - May 28, 2010)

Mooresville, IN. Maxine Land age 82 passed away May 28, 2010 in Miller's Merry Manor in Mooresville. She was born July 3, 1927 in Lee County, VA, the daughter of the late William Henderson and Celia Mae Cooper Howard.

Maxine worked for Biff's Bakery for 30 years, retiring in 1994. She was a very loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by husbands, Claude Land and Howard Harvey, daughter, Sonya Lee Abrahamson, son; Dame McKinley (Kenny) Land. Grandchild, Robin Maxine McClure and 8 siblings.

Survivors:

Sons, William Boyd Land, of Indianapolis, Kirby L. Land , Bardstown, KY, Rathal (Ray) K. Land , Camby, IN, daughters, Rhonda M. Crosley, Cloverdale, IN. Armilda M. Thacker, Mooresville, IN. , Naomi Jean Mundy of Cloverdale, IN. Brohter, Bernard Howard, Fort Branch, IN. sisters, Alice Gray of Ohio, Billie (Jewell) King of VA. More than 130 grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Family will receive friends on Thursday, June 3, 2010 from 3 until 8:00 p. m. at Carlisle & Son Funeral Chapel in Mooresville, IN.

Memorial contributions are asked to be made to the Land family to off set funeral expenses.

Graveside services for Maxine will be held at 12:00 noon , on Saturday, June 5 in the Ely's Creek Cemetery, Land Family Plot, in Pennington Gap, VA.

Sturgill Funeral Home is in charge of the local arrangements.
