Charles Eugene Robbins, a resident of Pennington Gap, Va was born in Lee County on Wednesday November 4, 1964 and passed away Thursday, July 8, 2010 at Lee Regional Medical Center in Pennington Gap at the age of 45 years. He had been a resident of Lee County his entire life and was a Coal Miner.

Charles was preceded in death by his father, Millard Laine Robbins. One brother, Kenneth Wayne Robbins. He is survived by his mother, Dovie Atkins of Pennington Gap, Va. One son, Brandon Charles Wayne Robbins of Woodway, Va. Two sisters, Nancy Annette Nelson and husband, Taz of Pennington Gap and Donna Jewel Hoke and husband Stephen of White Sulfer Springs, WV.

Funeral services will be held Saturday July 10, 2010 at 7:00 P.M. in the Province Funeral Home Sanctuary with Rev. Clyde Hester officiating.

Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. Saturday until time of service. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Sunday July 11, 2010 at the Powell Valley Cemetery in Dryden, Va.

Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 A.M. to go to the Cemetery.

Dora Orr Roop, 95, of Jonesville passed away Saturday, July 17, 2010, at Wellmont Lee Regional Medical Center in Pennington Gap, VA.

Dora was the oldest member of the Jonesville First Baptist Church and was a member of the Rebekah Lodge of Jonesville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hagan Russell Roop; parents, Phillip Sheridan Orr and Mary Elizabeth Francis Orr; brothers, Dewey, John, Arvil, Nelson, and Howard Orr; three sisters, Rebecca Barnett, Gladys Mise and Margaret King; great grandchildren, Braelyn and John Evan Fortner.

She is survived by:

Daughter, Margaret Elkins and husband, Don of Jonesville, VA

Sons: Dennis Roop and wife, Betty of Denver, Colorado and Wayne Roop and wife, Ty of Wytheville, VA

Funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. James Meade and Rev. Mike Humfleet officiating.

Graveside service will be at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday at Lee Memorial Gardens in Woodway, Virginia. Those attending the graveside are asked to meet at the funeral home at 12:00 noon to go to the cemetery in procession.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Elgie Middleton, 91, of Taylor, Michigan and formerly of Lee County, Virginia, passed away Monday (July 19, 2010) at MediLodge Nursing Facility in Taylor, Michigan.

He was a retired assembly worker for Chrysler.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Shelby and Eliza Shackleford Middleton; five brothers; and three sisters.

Surviving are:

One son: Gary Middleton of Livonia, Michigan

Emma Jean Pennington a resident of Pennington Gap, Va. was born in Lee County, Va. on Friday, April 15, 1927 and passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at her home in Pennington Gap, at the age of 83 years. She had lived in Lee County, Va. her entire life.

Emma Jean was a homemaker and of the Holiness Faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Paul Pennington, Sr., parents, James and Rosa Stapleton McQueen, two grandchildren, Kim Pennington and Steven Rutledge, great-granddaughter, Laycee Parks, two sisters, Lola Harber and Carolyn Dewiggins, and four brothers, James, Henry, Earl and Everett McQueen.

Emma Jean is survived by five sons, Paul Pennington, Jr. and wife, Leah of Jonesville, Va., Ricky Pennington and wife, Glenda of Blackwater, Va., Mark Pennington and wife, Patricia of Dryden, Va., Michael Pennington and wife, Regina of Jonesville, Va. and Stevie Pennington and wife, Carla of Pennington Gap, Va., three daughters, Faye Parsons and husband, Fred Jr. of Pennington Gap, Va., Connie Garrett and husband, Tracy of the Sugar Run Community and Melissa Woliver and husband, Brian of Dryden, Va. Survivors include; Her husband of 60 years, Elmer Woliver of the home. six sons; Harold Woliver, Dot, VA, Bobby Woliver and wife Rebecca, Woodway, VA, Danny (Peanut) Woliver and wife Ramona, Dot, VA, B. Carolyn Beanie Kennedy of the Monarch Community in St. Charles, Va., was born in Benedict, Va. on Saturday, July 15, 1950 and passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 25, 2010 at the Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, TN at the age of 60 years.

Beanie was a beautician for many years. She loved to quilt and work with flowers, and was of the Baptist Faith. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Floyd and Marie Kennedy and one brother, Floyd Buzz Kennedy.

Pennington Gap, VA Clarence Zion (Ham) King, age 89 of the Hickory Flats community passed away on Sunday, August 1, 2010. He was born and reared in Lee County, son of the late William Leonard King and Fannie Hazel Brown.

He lived in Dayton and Xenia, Ohio for over 30 years and returned to Lee County in 1982. He was a retired carpenter and farmer. He was a member of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Woodway. He was preceded in death by his wife, Athelene Vaughn King, Grandson, Adam Skye King, brothers, Laurence King, Roy King, and Ray King. Sisters, Cora Middleton, Estelle McElory, and infant sister, Dellie.

Survivors include; Two daughters, Barbara Lochner, Ashville, NC, Elizabeth King-Jones and husband, Woodroe of West Alexandria, OH, One son, L. Wayne King and wife, Sheila of St. Augustine, FL. Betty Jo Belcher of the Big Hill Community in Pennington Gap, Va. was born in Pennington Gap, Va. on Thursday, March 27, 1930 and passed away Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at the Lonesome Pine Hospital in Big Stone Gap, Va. at the age of 80 years. She had lived in Lee County Va. most of her life.

Betty Jo was a homemaker and of the Baptist Faith. She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard W. and Eva Estell Belcher, two sisters, Carol Belcher and Alice Adams, one brother, Ray Belcher and one nephew, James Benji Adams.

Betty Jo is survived by one sister, Kitty Roberts of Dryden, Va., nieces, Karen Maggard of Dryden, Va. and Lisa Hughes of Prattville, Al., nephews, Keith Adams and Richard Adams of the Big Hill Community and Steve Belcher of Georgia and one sister-in-law, Sue Belcher of Prattville, Al.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, August 6, 2010 at the Province Funeral Home in Pennington Gap, Va.

The graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday at the Powell Valley Cemetery in Dryden, Va. with Rev. Bill Posey officiating.

The family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 9:45 AM Saturday for the service.

Beverly Ann Milwee Hart

Riceville, TN/Rose Hill, VA

Beverly Ann Milwee Hart, 56, of Riceville, Tennessee died Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at Park West Hospital in Knoxville, TN after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born October 18, 1959 in Painesville, Ohio to Harold and Margaret Milwee of Rose Hill, Virginia.

Beverly grew up in Lee County and as a child attended Speaks Chapel United Methodist Church. She later moved with her family to Ohio and then to Kissimmee, Florida where she was saved and joined North Kissimmee Baptist Church.

After learning of her cancer she moved to Riceville, Tennessee to be near her sister and she attended Riceville Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her three children, Deidre Hart and Daniel Hart both of Holden, Massachusetts, and Kayla Hart of Riceville, Tennessee; her ex-husband, Harry Hart of Holden, Massachusetts; two sisters, Sharon (Sherrie) Bradley and husband, Tom of Riceville, Tennessee, Wanda (Bunny) Carter, Ewing, Virginia; two brothers, Fred Milwee and wife, Kitty of Ewing, Virginia, and Randy White Milwee and wife, Mary of Rose Hill, Virginia; a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends.

A memorial service will be Sunday (August 8, 2010) at 11:00 a. m. at Speaks Chapel United Methodist Church with burial to follow at the Speaks/Rosenbalm Cemetery. Per her wishes, Beverly was cremated.

Earl Hedrick
(October 21, 1912 - August 7, 2010)

Earl Hedrick was born in Lee County, Virginia on October 21, 1910 and died in Lee County, Virginia on August 7, 2010.

Earl enjoyed farming, gardening, and farm animals. He worked for the REA on the first power lines set in Tennessee and Virginia and managed the local cattle market and a tobacco warehouse for several years. He graduated from Flatwoods High School.

Earl is a member and deacon of Thompson Settlement Baptist Church. He served 63 years in the Masonic Order at Wynn Lodge #221 and was lodge secretary for 50 years. He is an honorary member of the Lee County Garden Club and was a poll official at Bishop Store Voting Precinct for 50 years.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Sephus and Myrtle Yeary Hedrick; a son, Wayman Earl Hedrick; a grandson, Tim Spence; two brothers, Chester and Harold; four sisters, Helen, Glessie, Beulah, and Mavis; and two special lifelong friends, Herman Carroll and Herman Hedrick.

Surviving are:

His devoted wife of 70 years: Alice Williams Hedrick of Jonesville, Virginia

One daughter: Virginia Spence and husband, Jerry of Jonesville, Virginia

Two sons: George Clinton Hedrick and wife, Glenda of Jonesville, Virginia and Michael Hedrick and wife, Belle of Rocky Mount, North Carolina

Six grandchildren: Shane Spence, Angie Hedrick Mackall, John and Bob Hedrick, Rebecca Hedrick, and Teresa Hedrick Price

Eight great grandchildren: Eden, Tekoa, Sam, Gilead Hope, Kidron, Katherine, Gavin, and Aaron

Two sisters: Wanda Hedrick Williams of Indiana and Lee Etta Hedrick Fugate of Florida

The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00p.m. Tuesday at the Arney-Mullins Funeral Home in Jonesville, Virginia.

Masonic services will be conducted Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. by the Masons of the 50th District. Funeral services will follow in the funeral home chapel with Jim Myers and the Rev. James Meade officiating.

Burial will follow in the Thompson Settlement Cemetery in Jonesville, Virginia.

Music will be provided by the Sumpter Family and the Heaven Bound Singers.

Pallbearers will be Masonic Brothers. Honorary pallbearers will be his very dear grandsons.

Charles W. Harrison Lawson of the York Community, Jonesville, Va. was born in Jonesville, Va. on Wednesday, June 29, 1927 and passed away Saturday, August 7, 2010 at the Holston Valley Hospital in Kingsport, Tn. at the age of 83 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Imogene Petrey Lawson, Father, Charles W. Lawson, Sr. and mother, Isabelle Hicks Lawson. Three brothers, Carl, Earl and Orbin Lawson. Four sisters, Ethel King, Pinie Harrington, Jewell King and Mossie Holman. He worked in the coal mines for many years and his last employment was with the County of Lee where he retired in 2002 to take care of his wife. He lived most of his life in Lee Co. and was a member of the St. Charles Baptist Church.

Harrison is survived by two sons, William David Lawson and wife, Vicky of the Dot Community, Ricky Gene Lawson of Jonesville, Va. He is also survived by two daughters, Sorita Jo Matheson and husband, Dean of Fishers, Indiana, Anita Gale Leonard and husband, Richard of Jonesville, Va. also, 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, that all loved him dearly. One brother, Willie Lawson of Hickory Flats and a host of nieces and nephews and many friends.

The funeral will be held at 8:00 PM Tuesday in the Sanctuary of the Province Funeral Home in Pennington Gap, Va. with Stan Lewis and Jimmy Parsons officiating.

Visitation will be from 6 o’clock Tuesday until time of the service.

The graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday at the Powell Valley Cemetery in Dryden, Va.

Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 AM to go to the cemetery.

Charlie Snodgrass
(September 15, 1926 - August 11, 2010)

Charlie Snodgrass, 83, of Jonesville, Virginia, passed away Wednesday (August 11, 2010) at the Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tennessee.

He was a lifelong resident of Lee County, Virginia, and a local farmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emmett and Ida Snodgrass; one brother, Elbert Snodgrass and two sisters, Marie Phillips & Katherine Price.

Surviving are:

Pennington Gap, VA Mollie Florence Turner, age 98 went to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at Lee Nursing and Rehab Center. She was born in Lee County, the daughter of the late Charlie and Emily Byrd Haburne. She was a homemaker and was of Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles B. Turner, one daughter, Edith Ruth Turner, three sons, Bobby Gene, Charles Jr, and George Turner. Two sisters, Vinnie Cross and Frankie Hood, nine brothers, Merlin,J.D., H.L., Earl, Orlie, Erskine, Bill, R.J., Claude Haburne. One half brother, Oscar Haburne.

Survivors include; 5 daughters, Wanda Nelson and family, Pennington Gap, VA, Doris Collins and family, Roanoke, VA, Sherry Million and family , Kernersville, NC, Lana Gilbert and family, Louisville, KY, Patricia Fannon and family of Pennington Gap, VA. 32 grandchildren, several great and great- great and great- great- great grandchildren. 3 half sisters, Cora Cope, Mildred Baldwin, and Charlene Clark. One half brother, Glen Haburne, several nieces and nephews.

Family will recieve friends from 7 until 9:00 p. m. on Saturday, August 14, at Sturgill Funeral Home in Pennington Gap, VA.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p. m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Paul Davis Jr. officiating.

Interment will follow at Lee Memorial Gardens in Woodway.
