Posted April 6th, 2009 02:05 PM IP  Millbrook, ala.- Oscar Leroy Harvel, 66, of Alabama, formerly of Lee Co. Virginia, passed away Saturday April 4, 2009 at home.
He was a member of Fleenors Chapel Baptist Church in Jonesville, Va. Oscar retired as a Msgt in the Airforce in 1984. He served a tour of duty in Vietnam. After retiring from the military he served as a police dispatcher for the town of Big Stone Gap Va. For many years.
Oscar was the best father, daddy, husband, brother and grandfather. He touched many peoples lives, he was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone. Whether it was taking food to the elderly, doing a garden for someone, listening to his children and grandchildren or sending a inspirational note to someone who was down. He always saw the good in people.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife Nancy J. Harvel (who passed Oct 3, 2008), his parents William and Edna Harvel, sister Peggy James, and his two brothers William Jr. Harvel and Herbert Harvel.
Survivors are his 3 daughters Brenda and Mark Barlowe of Ga., Mary Ann Manchego of Huntsville, al. and Susan and Jerry Fee of Montgomery Al. He has 8 grandchilren Mark, Amber, Bryce, Kari, Tyler, Adam, Alex and Santana. Two sisters Jane Hall and Helen Chandler. Four brothers Joe Harvel, Earl Harvel, Pat Harvel and John Harvel.
