So why wasn't citizenship pursued by the parents in the first place ? Why did they break the law to enter the country? Was it to recieve all the free handouts and opportunities that are not available to law abiding citizens ?

only because you can't answer them. The bottom line is they are here illegally and broke the law to get into the country.
If they serve in the military they would qualify under the GI bill for college aid and not need special handouts your claiming the majority of illegal aliens deserve.
I would also consider a pardon to them for their crime if they served in the military

Come and spend some time in Arizona and Southern Cal and you'll know exactly who they are. They didn't cross to serve in the military, that's for damn sure!

Arizona's "questionable immigration law" , as you term it, only tries to enforce the federal law which the federal government refuses to apply and enforce.
California is basically adopting laws that contradict the federal law.
The Constitution has the defined the federal government as responsible for protecting our borders. AZ is only trying to make sure the federal constitutional mandate is being lived up to.
Liberal loonies need to read up on the separation and application of powers as defined by the constitution.
Hilsdale College has a wonderful on-line course that teaches the Constitution. You can sit next to me in class if you want. Just 30 minutes a week or two beers a class

Fix the problem of illegal immigration first then resolve the status of those here. Send the criminals back. Make sure the all kids of the state are given the same opportunities and don't do it on my tax dollars. Texans can fund their own plan.
