Posted November 7th, 2008 10:32 PM IP Being fairly new to the girls hs scene, GRG looked pretty tough today in scrimmages with Spring Lake Park and Champlin Park. More scheduled for tomorrow so we'll see how they stack up. Good goaltending, defense, and some forwards that move the puck well. They lost a lot of talent from last year's team, but looks like they've got some more bullets to reload with. Character is who you are when no one is watching

Posted November 8th, 2008 12:10 PM IP Lost track this morning, but I think Woodbury came back and came out on top 4-3 this morning. Woodbury scored 3 goals in about the last 4 minutes. St. Francis up next for GRG this afternoon.
JV beat Spring Lake Park 2-0 Lost to Champlin Park 1-0 and tied Woodbury this morning 1-1. The JV actually looked better than I thought. A lot of the girls are 14u age but as GRG does not have a 14u program, the girls were forced to jump right in from 12u. Pace is way faster for the girls, but they seem to be adjusting. Just keeping with past tradition, doubt I'll be able to juggle the schedules to keep up with the whole season, and I'm not that good with all the girls names.
However, yesterday afternoon, I did watch again and GRG totaly dominated St. Francis at the varsity level, and snuck by 2-0 at the JV level.
Looks to be a promising team at both levels. Character is who you are when no one is watching

Not to wreck your day but you'll be playing 8th graders...basically our U12A team (2 U12B's) from last year minus our two best who will be playing varsity. Our U12A & U14A teams both made it to the state tournament so we'll be ok...just young.
I will be in Chisolm too....will you be the one carrying the "Where's Bob Lee?" sign?

Should be an even matchup then, we have no 14u team and most if not all the jv players were 12uA last year with 2 12uB players moving up.
I'll be the guy with the orange GR hockey hat. Someone took my Bob Lee sign out of the garage. I have a sneaky suspicion Bob Lee may stay retired. At least for the time being. Character is who you are when no one is watching

Buffalo over the weekend:
JV
2-1 over GRG
3-0 over Hibbing (I think)
7-0 over Chisago Lakes
1-1 tied Moundsview
Varsity
0-3 loss to GRG
1-2 loss to Hibbing
3-0 win over Chisago Lakes
2-3 loss to Moundsview
Great job by the fine folks up on da range!

Posted November 21st, 2008 10:57 PM IP GRG squeaks out a 5-4 OT victory against WBL in a game that shouldn't have been that close. GRG held a 4-2 lead in the 3rd and appeared to coast throughout the period and most of the OT almost costing them the game. Sort of a lack luster goaltending performance by GRG which isn't usually the case. Hopefully they learned their lesson and take care of business as the season progresses. Posted December 17th, 2008 10:58 AM IP Been awhile, but hopefully with boblee back on bored this topic will be kept more up to date. The ladies are progressing nicely with a lttle stumble at Bemidji the other night, but rebounded nicely with a big win over Hill Murray on Saturday. The usual suspects are taking care of business for GR/G with Dana Gallop and Molly Arolla leading the way. Both Illikainen girls are also huge factors and as always, the ever steady Jessica Havel has been making save after save. Great start to their year and hopefully on their way to another defense of their Section 7 crown. Character is who you are when no one is watching

Posted December 20th, 2008 07:58 PM IP GRG is very good again this year. I won't say Bemidji was lucky to beat them but the Jacks played a great game. Blocked a lot of shots, got great goaltending and took advantage of opportunities. Looking forward to the rematch. I'm sure the rink in Grand Rapids will be like a hornets nest. 2011 MHF Cup Winner

Posted January 4th, 2009 01:25 AM IP GRG played some interesting games in Edina this weekend. Playing Blaine in the first round of the tourney, they appeared to have the game in hand leading 4-2 after 1, but the bottom dropped out on the girls and they lost 7-4. Against Hopkins in the consolation semis, GRG struggled throughout but kept plugging away tying things up with about 5 seconds remaining only to fall in the 3rd ot which was played 3 on 3. The Lightning upended their next opponent 4-2 to end the tourney on a winning note and headed home to regroup. I'm sure the ladies will come back and finish the season strong. They played some great competition in Edina and this will only help down the stretch. Character is who you are when no one is watching
