Posted February 2nd, 2011 10:34 AM IP John Gordon is retiring after this season. Maybe there is a God, because my prayers have finally been answered. I hate that guy. Worst baseball announcer ever. He'll somehow manage to call the play without actually telling you what happened.
"OH MY! How about that! Tell me Dazzle, have you ever seen a play like that?!"
"No John, I have very seldom seen a guy ground out to 3rd."
He's an idiot. Although he had one of Mrs. Govs' favorite bonehead radio announcements when he was signing off after a game a few years ago...
"From Jacobs Field in Chicago, I'm John Gordon. Good night everybody!".
What's up with that?

Posted February 2nd, 2011 10:39 AM IP Maybe for you "purists" he was an annoyance, but he brought a lot of enthusiasm to the game and broadcast to the casual observer. Touch 'em all, Gordo!
Keep on Rockin' in the Free World!

John was great in the booth! Many except for the casual baseball listeners will miss him. THE ORIGINAL AP!

Count me as ecstatic, until we see who replaces him. Maybe Kurtz?
I've always, always, always, hated Gordon. Meetings:

I'd like to see it, but how old is he at this point? I know he's doing a handful of games this season, but with his age and crossover with the Wild, I wouldn't hold my breath for him taking over full time.
I'd guess it'll be that Chris Atteberry guy that does the pre and post game shows. I know he filled in a few times last year, so I get the sense he's being groomed to take over. He's ok - whiney voice, but did a much better job of calling the game than Gordo. What's up with that?

Less is more. I wish the Wild announcers could grasp that... Meetings:

I think Dan Terhaar is better than Mike Goldberg was.
If I heard "BIG DRIVE!!!" one more time, I was probably going to snap. What's up with that?

Posted November 3rd, 2011 01:11 PM IP So they snatched Cory Provus from the Brewers to replace Gordo. Don't know much about the guy, but he can't be much worse than his predecessor if you ask me. I think I've probably heard him because I do listen to games on the computer from time to time, and I'd listen to the Brewers a lot because of Bob Uecker. The fact that I don't recall much about Provus doesn't say much about his potential impact, but whatever.
He and Uecker did have this on-air interaction last season though:
Bob: "Do you know anything about Tony Plush? Where does he come from?"
Cory: "Well, Nyjer Morgan is who you see on the plane and in the clubhouse. However, once he takes the field he becomes Tony Plush."
Bob: "All right."
Cory: "So, tonight's text question tonight is for you. If Tony Plush is Nyjer's alter ego, what is Bob Uecker's?"
-Now, without any hesitation he uttered the following answer....
Bob: "Bette Davis."
Cory: "Why?"
Bob: "Just the way she dressed. Powerful. Good right handed hitter. Looked good in flats, heels and pumps. I do all of that."
Cory: "Really? I haven't seen that side of you yet."
Bob: "Well, don't come into my room unannounced. Otherwise you'll see me in a dress."
What's up with that?

Lets the fans vote to retain him after one year.
I don't want to get stuck with another Gordon for another 25 years. Meetings:
