Posted November 7th, 2011 02:52 PM IP Bill Smith is OUT as the Twins GM... Terry Ryan back in on an interim basis. Link.
This is the best offseason move they could have made and nobody saw it coming. What's up with that?

Posted November 7th, 2011 03:15 PM IP Call me crazy, but I think Cuddyer's heading to Philly to free up space for the hometown club to sign Pujols.
I wasn't sure of it before, but now that Ryan's here, you may as well carve it in stone. What's up with that?

Plus it dont look so good down on the farm.

Probably could have picked up Nick Punto and got similar tools for about half what Carroll's getting. What's up with that?

Punto cant hit like Carrol.
I am Ok with these kinds of bandaid moves so long as they get Kubel and Cuddyer back and the M boys are healthy.
The nucleus has won and will win again if healthy.
If Carrol can play a decent SS and hit .280 with 10 HRs it will be a big improvement at the position and a lot better O than Punt could ever be.

He's played 10 seasons and has 12 career HR's... Punto has 14 in 11 seasons. He won't hit any playing half the season in this park.
They seem to be hanging their hat on the fact that he has something like a .350 OBP. It's certainly better than what the SS position provided last season, but Punto's at .325 for his career.
I hate to really endorse Punto, but he made $750k last season. I'm willing to bet they could have signed him for $1.5 at WORST and saved about $2 million to put toward some starting/bullpen help (I'm working under the assumption that Cuddyer's leaving regardless).

Phil Dumatrait has been re-signed.

I heard 12 HRs when somebody was talking on the radio and I thought it meant a season not a career.
Punto is one of those guys who excells as a backup but if he is out there for 150 games....not so good.
Carroll has full season stats and performance. He can play all of the IF positions and he is steady.
So, where will Yoshi play? AAA?

Posted November 18th, 2011 01:45 PM IP It seems as though the Drew Butera era has come to an end with the Twins signing of Ryan Doumit. I'm a bit more enthusiastic about this signing than I was for the Carroll signing, partly because he can play RF ad 1B as well. I'd be much more enthused if they weren't picking up Doumit for $3m. It seems a little steep for what should essentially be a back-up catcher...
Unless the Twins figure he'll be starting more often than not. What's up with that?

Quote: MINNEAPOLIS - The Minnesota Twins plan to add another bronze statue of a former player outside Target Field next year.
Twins spokesman Kevin Smith says the player has yet to be publicly identified. He would join statues of Harmon Killebrew, Kirby Puckett, Rod Carew, Tony Oliva and the late Twins owner Carl Pohlad and his wife Eloise.
Smith says the Twins hope to unveil the new statue at the April 9 home opener against the Los Angeles Angels. |

Posted November 22nd, 2011 09:12 AM IP Disappointing that he wasn't dealt. I suppose they must've undervalued his market value, and figured they could get him for less than the $7M he's getting from Texas.
They did the same thing with Torii Hunter. What's up with that?

Posted November 22nd, 2011 10:20 AM IP It appears that the Twins seem to be hoping that Mauers sideburns and Target Field will keep them above water for a few years while they rebuild.
Nathan is a tough issue. He is 37 and has not yet recovered from TJ surgery. 7 million a year? I doubt he will ever be the closer he was.
Smith screwed this team up plenty. It won't be easy to fix.
