Yeah, I'm not seeing that Dewey High School has ever won a game at the tourney.

The 2001 semifinal was a rematch of the 1999 semifinal, pitting Hastings and Elk River. 1999 went 2 OTs before Hastings won, but Elk River got revenge in 2001:

After winning their games in the quarterfinals in OT, it was only fitting that the Greenway and Moorhead 2001 semifinal tilt went to OT with Moorhead pulling out another one:

No copyright infringement here!

No one here is profiting of the old articles.

Nor is he passing it off as his own work.

To wrap up the 2001 season, there was no more overtime for Moorhead and the carriage turned into a pumpkin as the 'team of destiny' Elk River romped to an 8-1 win, one of the largest margins every in the championship game:

As BIAFP alluded, the always classy Elk River fans managed to get themselves penalized in the 3rd period. I don't know if they threw a few fans in the box or what, but this unfortunately mostly unreadable box score shows that at 9:55 of the 3rd period the "Elk River fans" got a penalty for delay of game:

Tomorrow White Bear Lake once again tries to beat their Quarterfinal round curse. In honor, the Vault presents the story from the only team from White Bear to win a first round game, the 1982 Mariner Dolphins who thrashed the Millen-missing Cloquet Lumberjacks in round 1:

By request, the Vault brings you the 1986 Burnsville Braves:

I'll have to follow up on this as it's from the days when they had a special insert for the tourney with pictures of every player on every team and the like. Lotsa good stuff for the Vault.

And with that the Vault will lock up for a few days and leave the keys at the Liffey. May this year's tourney bring good memories to all who participate and attend!

I'm prying the Vault open for one more pre-tourney post. In honor of one of the best MHF moments at the tourney, it was two years ago in the AA quarterfinals that we all enjoyed this:

Hair brain idea; it could work. To bad somebody doesn't make a play to purchase the AHL "Texas Stars" franchise. Rename the them the, "Minnesota North Stars," and continue to play in the AHL. Get them here for a few seasons and then due to unforeseen market troubles, make a play with NHL to consolidate the NHL 'Minnesota Wild' and the AHL 'Minnesota North Stars' to become one under the old Minnesota North Star icon. It would be kind of like a Norm Green power play in reverse!

Just thinking outloud.

From: McLeansboro Times, February 9, 1922

OUT OF OIL IN 20 YEARS

That the U. S. will be virtually out of oil and will have to depend upon foreign shipments and producers within a period of 20 years is the statement of members of the American geological survey and experts representing the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. This report, which is official, was made at Washington and created a surprise. The members state there may be individual and independent wells that will not pumped dry for years, and others may not be drilled until 1950, however the assumption that the production is permanent and will supply the U. S. for many years is misleading.
