Posted February 17th, 2008 08:36 PM IP "Sure, if we can pull it off in less than thirty seconds." She grinned wickedly. "Sounds like a challenge to me. So we sneak in there and grab Skye in front of an audience of guards." She paused dramatically. "Y' know, I think we need a diversion. Suggestions?" In her mind she was already formulating an idea. If they could pin point one of the guards, then they could cut a hole in the iron above him, knock him out, and go messy and pointlessly showy from there. The fun part would be getting out of there before all the guards came to get rid of her. Aussi longtemps que je peux marcher par la nature, je survivrai. Posted February 17th, 2008 09:41 PM IP ((desided to cut ya'll a littlebreak, here.))Skye was vaguely aware of a faint ch-charrriiink! of groaning metal. It was coming from over her head and back behind the wall. Finally, a small spade-shaped object, only about an inch long, protruded through the wall from where the sound had been coming from. It wiggled back and forth. It disappeared a second later leaving a thin gash in the wall. Then, with another metallic shriek, it appeared again, just inches from its original point of entry. It wiggled back and forth again, then disappeared.
Then Skye realized what it was - a blade.
Voices, whispering, floated through the walls. The words weren't audible, but the intent was obvious.
These were the intruders. This was a rescue mission.
Several ferals in the cell sucked in a sharp breath as they, too, realized what it was. Skye said dreamily, "Ravena?"
A cold hand was instantly clapped over her mouth. Her back was pressed into someone's chest. Gregory's voice hissed, "Not a word, you hear me? Not - a - word! If they know the intruders are in here - if they know you're affiliated with them - you're dead. We're all dead. And I don't mean the Annihilator. No, it will be much worse. If they find you know something or someone correlated with the Resistance, you'll be tortured in ways unimaginable. And we will all suffer the same fate. You will not cost us our lives."
With a feverish nod, Skye was released.
Gregory stood on the shallow bench that hung on one wall. He stretched his neck until his mouth was just several inches short of reaching where the last hole had been made.
"Hey!" he hissed. "Can you hear me? Wiggle the knife through an existing opening if you can. We don't want to make any more noise."

Posted February 20th, 2008 08:44 AM IP "They will notice if - shh!" She heard someone whispering up to them. "He has a point, you know. What does he mean by existing opening? Last time I checked, they didn't have openings in this metal!" Whispering down to the man, she asked, "What do you mean by that?"

Ravena trailed off, muttering darkly about people who refuse to take necessary risks, but slid herself back a few inches. and tapped the hilt of the knife over a spot a foot or two away to give whoever was down there a false position. Posted February 20th, 2008 04:46 PM IP Skye found the twitch of a smile pulling at the edges of her mouth.
She stepped up next to Gregory. "Look, if we were guards, we'd have a'ready shot you. And look where you are. In a holding cell." Skye paused. "Still don't believe me? Fine. Ravena, the first alcoholic drink I ever had was with you at the Town Hol. Got so drunk I could barely stand. And if that's not good enough for you - you stole me a jacket a few days ago that had belonged to a winged dog feral. It was grey and was hanging on a rack in the corner of the hotel room we were staying in when I found it. As for there being no guards in here - well, you know I wouldn't have the guts to stand here and talk to you. And even if I did, I hope you know that I wouldn't compromise your safety like that. You shouldn't have come for me, but I thank you for it more than you'll ever know." For every person with a spark of genius, there are a hundred with ignition trouble.

Posted February 20th, 2008 06:07 PM IP "Look, if ya'll wanna get out of here as quickly and intact as possible, play nicely. There're two guards that are patrolling this hallway. I don't know what's going on past that, but ya'll got in here pretty efficiently, so I'm assuming you know a way to get us out." Skye glanced warily at the frightened and smudged faces behind her and whispered in a tone just audible to the three above her, "Hey, do you think we can get the rest out? Do we-do they have a chance?"
Answering her own question, Skye sighed, "Well, none of us have a great chance of this ending like a fairytale anyway, right? So it wouldn't hurt to try, would it?" For every person with a spark of genius, there are a hundred with ignition trouble.

"I have a feeling," Skye said, "that if you can open an airduct in the ceiling in the hallway quietly and grab one of the guards without the other noticing, knock him cold, loot 'im, you can get the keys. Each guard has a set dangling from their belt, I see. The only trick is doing it quietly. Then, knock out the other one, and it's smooth sailing from there. Unlock the cells, as many as you can. I'm pretty sure someone'll notice at some point, so we gotta do it fast."
Gregory quickly added, "Listen. There's another catch. When the guards take ferals to be Annihilated, they scare 'em. Scare 'em bad. Their idea is that the ferals will transform under the pressure, rendering them mentally incapable of anything, which reduces the possibility of escape. Usually works. They'll do the same in this case, once they see who (or what) you are, so you gotta keep your head. Keep it at all costs.
"Transformation is an automatic death sentence.
"Also keep in mind that not all ferals are your friends. While those in the cells appear to be innocent ferals destined to the same fate as everyone else, some may not be. You won't have to worry about the ferals in here. We've all worked together and are all part of the Resistance. However, I cannot say the same for other ferals in other cells. The government has been known to employ mole ferals. And I don't mean the animal. Some of these spies could be in the cells. So watch your back."

Posted March 1st, 2008 09:09 AM IP "Yes, I am mad." Shasa suddenly spoke up, coming out of her planning reveri. "If there is only two guards, then we can knock them out silently, then get their beamers. The beamers turn red when they go over moles, so they know who to leave in the cells. Then two of us will walk to each cell in the guards uniforms and flash the beamers in each one to locate the moles. One of us can stay in the ceiling and knock out the exposed mole, until their all nullified. If we can get all the ferals in the ceilings, then when the relief guard comes they'll panic and call for help. In the chaos that follows we can slip out in small groups." She smiled. "You with me?" And with that, she stepped down from the shallow bench and bent her head in a silent vow to keep these friends of hers alive at all costs. Anyone who wanted to hurt them would have to go through her first - all 700 pounds of metal-wielding fury.
Whether she or Gregory or any of the other ferals in any of the other cells managed to escape, it did not matter. The only ones that were of any consequence in this escape were these three amazing ferals, extraordinary in their sympathy, self-sacrifice, and love.
They were truly unique.
They were truly friends.
