~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm known as ~Buffalo Gal~ to many of my Roy & Dale Extended Family. I'm married to my bestest friend ever, Buffalo Jim!!
I collect salt n' pepper shakers. Love B-Western movies; especially Roy & Dale's!!
I enjoy the Roy Rogers Festival in Portsmouth, OH the best, as it's near the boyhood home of Leonard Slye, aka Roy Rogers. To me, that make's it extra special!!
The *King of the Cowboys* & *Queen of the West* have been a part of my life, ever since I was a very young buckarette!! Not only were they great western heros to look up to, these two were, and still are instumental in my everyday life because of their christian walk and faith in our Lord Jesus. What wonderful examples they are!! Happy Trails Forever,
~Buffalo Gal~
Posted November 25th, 2007 08:20 PM IP  I am Trailhand and I live in Portsmouth, Ohio about 15 miles from the boyhood home of Roy Rogers. Although Roy was born in Cincinnati, Ohio his family moved to Portsmouth when he was a baby and then to his boyhood home on Duck Run when he was about eight years old.
We hold a festival each year, the first full weekend in June, to honor Roy and Dale. This will be our 25th Roy Rogers Festival and we are planning a great time for everyone. So mark your calanders and join us for some cowboy and cowgirl fun.
Posted November 28th, 2007 09:45 AM IP  Grandama Butterfly here. I enjoy reading the post more then I do writing them. Here is a little about myself. I live in Mansfield, Ohio. That's just about 2 and half hours from Portsmouth. I have lived and loved Roy and Dale since 1956, when I first saw them at the Ohio State Fair. I was 11 then. In 1958 they were back at the fair. They were the biggest draw that the fair had. It's a long story, but I was able to go back stage and meet them. I got Roy and Dusty's autograph first, then was able to sit and visit with Dale in their dressing trailer until it was time for her to go on. That little bit of attention she paid me set me for life. I was able to visit with her on the phone once and was able to visit with her 3 more times in my life. What a joy she was to talk to. As you can see, get me started on Dale and Roy and I can talk all day. I have enjoyed meeting many other people who feel the way I do and I thank God that I have been able to visit with you in person and on the message boards. Hope to see many of you again. Happy Trails till then, Grandma Butterfly . Live, Laugh and Love
Posted December 14th, 2007 12:14 AM IP  I have LOVED *Roy Rogers & Dale Evans*, all of my Life!! I adopted the entire *Rogers Family*, as my second family before I was 6 years old. I met Roy & Dale in Houston, Texas at the Houston Rodeo, March 1964. The Lord, he made it all possible for my family! The rodeo tickets were given to us after numerous prayers! After the rodeo, I asked the Lord to please lead me to their dressing room. The ushers kept stopping me, but I finally made it! Dale came out first, dressed in a full length mink coat and her Apple Valley, California suit. She signed everything and anything, people handed her. Once, a little boy had a broken leg and Dale said; "My goodness!! What happened to you," all the while she was getting down on her knee and signin' his cast. She came up to me and asked if their was something she could do for me. Dale signed all of my books, and we talked about Robin, Debbie and Sandy. I told Dale, I didn't understand why they had so much sorrow and heartaches; that they were always giving so much of themselves to others. Dale said, "Shirley, don't you ever question the Lord!! He wouldn't place any more burden on us than we could bare." Dale was talking and pointing with that index finger of hers. I got the message and never forgot it either! She quoted the verse, from the Bible. I remembered hearin' and reading it. I told her I remember reading that, and "I will never say those words again!" I never have! Dale was the most "gracious lady!" She would say,"I am what I am and that's all,....just a gal from Texas." Happy Trails,
Shirley
Posted February 10th, 2008 07:46 PM IP  Howdy!
I'm Buffalo Jim, Buffalo Gal's "better half". I was in the Coast Guard for 20 years, retired and then moved to the Midwest in 1974.
Went to work for Kraft Cheese in 1975 in Springfield, MO and was with them for 23˝ years. I retired, when Buffalo Gal and I got married in 1999 and retired her shortly there after. In January 2000, they started "our home" on acreage that Buffalo Gal already owned. I drew up plans on graph paper and the contractors took it from there. They completed our home in May 2000. We love our rustic-looking home! We enjoy living "in the country" as we both had worked in the city way too many years. It's so peaceful and you can see and hear the beauty of nature. Buffalo Gal's usually has plenty for me to do to keep busy.
I enjoy many things, but I do enjoy watching the cars go around the dirt and asphalt tracks. I'm a fan of our local stock car racing and Nascar. I have collected Nascar memorabilia through the years. I enjoy the old classic cars and hot rods. l enjoy going to their shows and races.
l enjoy the B-Western movies of yesteryear. Of course, Roy and Dale were among my favorites stars of that era. Glad they have many movies on VCR and DVD's. Nowadays, there's not that much quality television, so it's quite easy to pop in a VCR or DVD western movie and watch your favorite childhood heroes ride off into the sunset while taking you back to those "Good Ole Days" once more. May the Good Lord Take A Likin' To Ya,
Buffalo Jim
Hey Jack, introduce yourself here and tell everyone about your nice Roy Rogers scrapbook. Folks, Buffalo Gal and I had the pleasure of seeing it in Portsmouth a couple of years ago, at the festival. It's an excellent scrapbook that he's kept for many years! May the Good Lord Take A Likin' To Ya,
Sandy, how far away did your step-dad live from Roy and his familiy's place in Duck Run? Did they have the farm when Roy lived there? Wouldn't that have been great to have lived near them or have known and played with Len as a youngster back then. Is the farm or property still there so one can see it? May the Good Lord Take A Likin' To Ya,
Buffalo Jim
Posted March 13th, 2008 01:26 PM IP  Born in Wales. Saw my first RR movie at age 7, it was a color one. Fell in love immediately with THE Trigger (it was the original Trigger in the movie, when posting I'll always use THE for the original Trigger, do not really care for the phrase "old man" as director Whitney would call him) - a beautiful a looking horse that I'd ever seen then and now. Studied that horse from then on out.
Of course Roy was my hero and Gabby, Dale, and Pioneers, just terrific also.
Been singing RR/SOP songs ever since.
Came to Canada in 1961 at age 18 (so you can do your math) to work with and ride "western" horses - which I did for many years (breaking, training, trick-riding, etc.etc.) as a young guy.
Decided to enter the Christian Ministry, I'm an ordained minister, but only part time now at mt age.
Music was also my hobby. I now part time, teach guitar, banjo, mandolin, I tell the Music School I teach for that I'm their "fretting" man - I'm always fretting.
I now live in Calgary (famous place of the Calgary Stampede Rodeo - biggest prize money rodeo in the world - every July it is held, get a chance come on up), Alberta, Canada, directly above Montana, about 2 hours for so rom the Montana border.
I finally did get my Golden Palomino only three years ago. Looks a lot like THE Trigger, but not as tall, she is 15 HH, a registered Quarter horse. she is out of a famous horse from the USA (she was born in the USA) called "Impressive" - he won just about everything to win in the "halter" class. So my Vet knew of him and said he was famous. My horse is a super looker as THE Trigger was. I am very blessed to have her, she is now 8 years old (in March). I'm teacher her to do some tricks, she already can do some. I started to jump her last summer, and she is fast like a bullet, when I open her up.
Well been studying Roy, Dale, Pioneers, Trigger, since age 7.
I've come to realize "Little Trigger" was the main brains behind "The Smartest Horse in the Movies" - he was a "wonder horse" in his own right, yes indeed. I understand from BauffaloGal that Roy often regretted he did not put him in the Museum, and so Little Trigger should have his place there, he was an unbelievable wonder trick-horse - the movie "Son of Paleface" (1952 - Bob Hope, Jane Russel, Roy Rogers - Trigger [Little Trigger it was) shows have great he was.
Will post my tribute to him.
Posted March 17th, 2008 04:04 PM IP  I was born and raised in Marion, Ohio (Still live there). Marion is located about 40+ miles North of Columbus and about 2.5 hours away from the Festival in Portsmouth.
I am the oldest of six kids who were raised by their mother alone because my father passed away when I had just turned seven, the youngest was only seven month's old.
My Dale Evans is named Marianne and we have been married for over 40 years. We have two sons and five grandchildren and still counting. We have really been blessed. Marianne loves quilting so we trade, I go to quilt shows with her and she goes to see Roy and Dale with me.
My scrap book is another story and is a very young boys attempt to collect every item in print about his hero Roy Rogers. I will fill you in on the scrap book soon.
I'll be back, Jack
May you always have Happy Trails
Howdy to all the "pardners" on this Message Board.
Sorry Buffalo Gal, for not getting here sooner. I could give you excuses for not posting before, but none would be acceptable.
I live up in "cow-country" , central Wisconsin. Mrs. SheLeen and I have three children and five grandchildren, and one dog named, Pistol.
I have been a Roy and Dale fan since 1952, when my parents got their first Television, and I saw The Roy Rogers Show for the first time. I saw Roy, Dale and family in person for the first time August 7, 1961, and then again May 25, 1997.
I am a "certified stainless steel electronic fusion technician". Mrs. SheLeen is a housewife.
I hope to get to know the M.B. members here better, as we discuss our favorite western movie stars, Roy and Dale.
What do you think of the idea of us, ( the message board members ), posting a personal picture on this thread, since this is an introduction thread ? Of course You and Buffalo Jim have met us already , but we have many members who we still need to meet. Like they say, a picture is worth two thousand words.
Posted August 11th, 2008 04:58 PM IP  I have been a RR/DE Fan since we got our first little black/white TV when I was about 4 or 5 years old ( now with many TV's in our home, including 2 large screen TV's...how did we ever survive without the large screen, color TV's!. I am a Mom to 2 daughters. One lives in Colorado and the other in GA. I have 3 Grandsons/2 live in CO and the other was in CO until he went into the US Air Force. He currently is stationed in Japan and has served 1 tour in Iraq and will return late this year to Iraq if all goes as planned. He is what was MP's but now called something else and "I" have re-named it on several occasions..not meaning to..but, at my age..what can one expect! I think it is called "Security Forces". He is stationed at Misawa Base, Japan and is recently married to a girl from Colorado. The other boys are in 11th grade and first grade. My daughter in Macon, GA. has my 2 little Granddaughters and they attend a private Catholic School in Macon (one in 2nd grade and one in 5th grade). My husband retired but...he could never stay retired...loves his job more than words can describe. He is a Registered Radiology Technologist and a Registered Nuclear Medicine Technologist. I never worked much. Once, I was Office Manager for a large Drs. Clinic...what an experience and one I will forever be Thankful for having/brought me into contact with so many Precious individuals that I could in some way help. Later, I was Food Service Director for hospital/Nursing Home. Another experience where I came in contact with many that, again, I could help in some small way to make their life more comfortable...give some TLC.
I was born in the very southern part of Alabama...about 65 miles to the lovely beaches of Gulf of Mexico......lived here all my life. My parents are deceased. My husband is from Mexico but has been a citizen of USA since in early 70's. He served in the US Army and there when Kennedy was murdered and when Cuban missile crisis took place and when Berlin Wall went up. My love for animals runs deep! My GrandChildren are very dear to me. My hobby: Traveling and I have a unique hobby.....I enjoy collecting hotel toiletry items (soap, shampoo, lotion, etc.....they are packaged so beautifully and make a delightful collection!). I was born 8/12/1947. We live in a small town which is nice...everyone knows everyone else! I am Proud to be among the Many Fans of RR/DE!! Southern Senorita
