Posted July 7th, 2009 12:40 PM IP It's me...AGAIN! I have been struggling with carpal tunnel in my right hand (I'm right handed.) for almost two years. It has gotten to the point that I wear a brace at bedtime. I cannot mow the lawn without it going numb. It bothers me when I drive any distance. Stangely enough, using the computer doesn't!
Anyway, I went for the test and yeppers, it's CT. It has progressed to the point that I am losing strength in my hand. Here all along I thought that the soda companies were using some new machine that put the caps on extra tight! It did not occur to me that it was because it was the CT! Honestly, some days I truely wonder how I made it to 54 years old!
Anyway, tomorrow is surgery day. They aren't going to put me to sleep but rather use a block on my right arm. The surgery it's self should only take about 30 minutes. The bulk of the time spent at the outpatient center will be for prep and recovery. BUT my right hand and arm will be bandaged. I can and should wiggle the fingers but can't get the bandaging wet.
I have been practicing using my left hand. I am a total klutz with it. I can't even brush my teeth with my left hand! I have to hold the toothbrush in the left and move my whole head! I have no idea of how I'm gonna shampoo my head and make the hair that grows there look halfway decent. I can't shave my legs very well and I swear that my right arm has got to be longer than the left because I can't seem to reach things as well!
How much do you want to bet that starting tomorrow we will have a heatwave that will be the hotest of the season so far? I could get pretty ugly and smelly fast!
So, I'm asking that you all send up a quick prayer that things go well and no one starts treating me as a leper! I know this is nothing really major and if this is as worse as it gets, I'm real lucky! Honestly, if I only get 90% of my hand back I will be glad! Central Illinois

Posted July 7th, 2009 01:25 PM IP Im sorry you are having to go through that Josie! I think my mother in law had that procedure and came thru it fairly well. I will definitely say a prayer for you my friend, and keep us posted. You can use a pencil and pick and poke with your left hand and tell us what is going on!
Much love directed your way! To misunderstand the nature and threat of evil is to risk being blindsided by it.

Posted July 7th, 2009 01:49 PM IP Thank the Good Lord for the 'object lesson'. It is best this happened now, so that it has been pointed out to you something you need to do as a prep item, in a 'time of peace'. It has just been pointed out to you that you need to train your other hand for when you're trying to survive a SHTF situation. It's 'little things' like this that people don't think about, but can and will create big problems if encountered in bad situations.
Wishing you the best, too. You say, "trigger-happy cowboy" as if it were a bad thing.

Posted July 9th, 2009 01:54 PM IP I'm baaaack! The surgery went well. The hand is a little sore yo say yhe least. I have to keep it elevated to re duce swelling. I gotta feeling I'm gonna look like a fool in church Sunday! I'm learning how to use lefty reght now. I spilt water all over the kitchen floor last night trying to make soup. My teeth have become invaluable lately! I have a whole new appreciation for our service persons who have lost a hand or arm. God bless them. Central Illinois
