Posted December 5th, 2011 11:00 AM IP Its time to get this Gorman thread started with a few questions.
Will we be staging at Quail Canyon MX or will we be in the park?
If at the track, will fire rings be allowed?

Posted December 5th, 2011 11:10 AM IP It will be Staged at the Quail Canyon MX track. Staging in the Park would be nearly impossible as there is no way to control an "Open Riding Area" such as Gorman with all the play riders that are out there.
Let me get back to you on the Fire Rings... as far as I remember there are NO campfires in Gorman unless in a designated fire ring and there are no designated fire rings in the Qual Canyon MX Track. BUT the exact same rules apply in the open desert which is really interesting. You are technically not allowed to have any fires in the desert unless in a designated fire ring, which there arent any.
AS of now the Course will be 6 miles long and the Pee-Wee course will be around 1 mile long. The Start will be infront of the MX Gate and the Pits/Home Check will be to the right of the gate in the area between the Vet/Kids Track and the Main Track.
All other information will be in the flier once we hammer out all the details of the weekend. USDR EVENT COORDINATOR

Posted December 5th, 2011 11:57 AM IP absolutely. It is a pretty tame track with all table tops and step ups so no big doubles or tripple jumps. Still working on the exact lay out we're going to use. BUT its one of my favorite tracks to ride because its so fast and fun. And I'm no MX guy by ANY means! USDR EVENT COORDINATOR

Posted December 5th, 2011 02:42 PM IP Its the HIGH desert. Come on Bartel... We are stil hosting 3 rounds in the desert along with 3 rounds in the high desert. With the extremely high cost of putting on races on BLM land the only way we can afford to do it is to do both.
how does that saying go... "if you dont have anything nice to say... start your own racing series.." or something like that I'm just kidding... but seriously, just come out and have FUN!

It will definitely be good out there... I will look into it, but I do know for SURE that you can not just have the fire on the ground. VCMC's event is in May which is the high risk season, so we may be able to work something out. USDR EVENT COORDINATOR

Posted December 5th, 2011 03:09 PM IP I am just giving you a hard time Erick. I will be there and I am sure it will be awesome, just like the rest of your events so far. I just am not so good at the tight/track stuff. (see anza video for a reference) lol...
But these different tracks make me a better rider. But if i had to pick what i like most its holding the trottle open and haull butt thru the high desert.. BLISS!!!!
I guess i am actually going to have to learn how to ride a dirtbike now instead of just holding on for my life.
See ya at round 1.
Maybe we can team up with you and the Hounds can put on a Race? but like I said we dont know what we are doing when it comes to that yet. But I am looking into it.
I hate that BLM has stepped in and made it soo hard for us to use our public lands. It just makes me mad. Such a bummer. 15v

Posted December 5th, 2011 03:29 PM IP That's the difference between that green plate and the yellow/red plate. You actually have to ride, not just close your eyes and hope for the best!
I would definitely help you guys put on your first event AND help make it something truely unique to set your club apart from just another d37 event! USDR EVENT COORDINATOR

Posted December 5th, 2011 03:50 PM IP we might need to talk about this at round 1. that would be awesome if the High desert hounds could put on a race once a year. I would like to pick your brain about getting the ball rolling on this. I am pretty sure we have enough people to cover the checks and sweep without a problem.
anyway Lets keep in touch on this. 15v

Posted December 8th, 2011 11:45 AM IP In all the years of racing USDR it has been stated in the rules that bikes must conform to registration laws which also include DB levels. I have not seen nor heard of actual checks being done. Which is not to say some may or may not show up with a meter someday. So Just play it safe and stay under the limit. I just wish beig loud made me faster but it dont help. BTW I am only speaking from the point of view as an observer/racer. Dave and Erek may have more info on it as far as offical USDR info. Posted December 12th, 2011 12:25 PM IP They put the meter on ur rear fender and then run the bike up to some rediculously LOW RPM. Atleast that how I've seen it in the past- Just tell them: "Loud pipes save lives!" It works for the Harley guys- Bring the rain!

Posted December 12th, 2011 12:49 PM IP Thats the big thing with Gorman... there will most likely be a sound test. 96 db. 99% of all bikes pass but make sure to tighten all your bolts and get some fresh packing in your muffler!!! VCMC has our own certified sound tester which is much better then having the ranger test you... trust me. USDR EVENT COORDINATOR
