Posted September 28th, 2011 10:14 PM IP Well it's that time of year again. For those who remember I was going to solo the 500 this year till my crash at round 1 this year ended my shot at it. Well I'm healed up and bike is prepped and I am entered!! As of now I am going to solo the 1000. That may change after prerun but for now I'm all in!! This years course is a combo of this years 250 and 500 course. I am be told it is not a good one to solo, especially my first time out. But I have also been told that if I ride smart I should be alright. I am going down Oct 15 to ride in the San Felipe area. Pre run opens Nov 4. I may be looking for a prerun buddy. I will be a little picky though as I don't want to baby sit anyone. Not just a chance to go play in Mexico. Also looking for a reliable person who can chase me with my wife. All expenses will be paid for the right guy. Must know bike service and have a good head on his shoulders. Don't really want my wife alone in the Mexican desert by herself.
At this point I look to gain experience and a finish. You only live once. Live life FLAT OUT AND SIDEWAYS!!

The link is for the GPS device he is using so he can be tracked on line in real time. Check it out. I just want to wish him the best of luck down there as well as any of the other USDR family that is there as well.

| Yes Ryan is trying to Solo man he has a lot of heart that's for sure. I have a few other friends racing down there, and they were going to try and hook up with him.

Posted January 2nd, 2012 05:50 PM IP Sorry to leave you guys hangin.....been pretty busy since the race. I did solo the 1000. I finished every race mile. 702 miles. Officially I am a DNF because I was 41 minutes late. I rode for 32 hours and 41 minutes. I made several stops for food and water of about 15-20min each. One stop of 40 minutes at about 2am. 20min to eat and water and a 20 minute nap. Had no bike issues the whole race!!! My prep job rocked!!! No flats and not a wrench turned on the bike. My crew did an air filter change at Race Mile 500 or so but looking at the filter after it wasn't even needed. I was nervous about getting flattened by a trophy truck and pulled over every time I heard something. Lots of times to see nothing there. Was lost for about 10 minutes in the whoops near Boregos. I wasn't far off line but at night and after that much time on the bike I was a little disoriented. Lots of lines out there and was only 2-500 feet from the ribbon but started to doubt myself. To go back and do it again there are some things I would do different that would have been able to finish in time. It hurts to have been so close and not get credit for a finish. I guess I got to shake Sal Fish's hand at the start and again at the finish so I can claim a finish but it feels hollow. I will be back next year.....and it goes to La Paz next time!! Posted January 5th, 2012 01:23 PM IP Oh....I'm not done!!! I'm going back this year to get an official Iron man finish. It will be tougher logistics because it's going to La Paz this year. Miles will be 1100 or so compared to the 702 this year but guys are telling me that if I was this close this year I'll get it next year because they are easier miles. We'll see.....
