And where would they go from there? We gotta be getting close to the limit. 640 gives them a few years to bump up the hp to attract new buyers. You know how the game works.

I think it looks great!
Classic style Gen2 coupe meets Maserati.
And the race car version (future ACR??) looks even better!

Agreed, though.. that the HP should have been higher.

Looks great and if memory serves very close to what we saw SLC, even the color. I like that they brought back the GTS moniker and beyond the gas cap I did not see any SRT or Viper markings.

I agree. Very close. I think they changed up the front end a bit. I recall seeing more honeycomb stuff in there. Hopefully they will make Maurice's photos public now so we can see how close it really is to the Utah car.

GT500 forced induction engine - 650hp
ZR1 forced induction engine - 638hp
Viper NATURALLY ASPRIRATED engine - 640hp and 600 lb/ft of torque. The most torque ever for ANY naturally aspirated car. And room to grow.

C'mon! Let's get a little perspective here.

I like the exterior, except the grill which will have to grow on me.....they knocked the cover off the ball on the interior, that is a major upgrade. I am convinced that they felt to get a 911 or ZR-1 buyer, they had to upgrade that.....and they did. The engine I am a little upset....it is the same gen 4 engine with a couple tweaks and adding direct injection alone would have probably added 50 HP. I really like the exhaust tips and it looks like keyless start which I really like. But think about this, for someone looking for good value, buy a low mile gen 4 ACR WITH stripes for $75,000 or a new 2013 GTS for $120,000. Right now I would have to say the gen 4 ACR may be better value but I am sure there are other changes coming in both HP and perhaps an ACR package.

A few years back Ford had some litigation issues as customers were reporting that the engine [i forgot which year and engine] was NOT putting out the advertised horsepower. After that fiasco, I am sure Ford will not say 650 HP unless it is. However it is supercharged and perhaps there is some fluctuation with heat build-up. Keith might be able to comment on that, he supercharged a 99 Viper and also tracked the car, perhaps he could comment if he felt any drop off in power if things got too warm.

Who said that the new viper was 120 grand? And yes supercharged engines lose power to heat soak but a car doesnt have to maintain a constant HP level order to claim a hp figure.

Not sure but it's probably not far off. My 2009 base price was 87k. Sticker was 95K. No stripes. ACRs were in the 110k range in 2010. You have to figure at least a 10k increase in base price if not more. That gets you in the 120k range pretty quickly.

FYI ON the race car, ALMS is scheduled to be @RA Aug 16-19. If the New Viper is there, I will probably get there to view either the Friday or Saturday session.
