Tell us about your naps!

Now that you've officially joined us, help us get to know you better by answering a few questions. And I just wanna let y'all know that I do reach each and EVERY new profile even if some others do not. It's my way of getting to know a 'lil sumptin' boutch'all...know what I mean? And I really enjoy reading them too. So to get us started, I'll go first.

1. How long you been nappy? Almost 5 years

2. How long is your hair stretched? 11-13 inches more or less

3. How long is your loose, freshly shampooed hair maxium shrinkage? Not sure. I just know I try really hard not to let it shrink like that during the shampoo process cause it's too hard to detangle in that state.

4. What are your products of choice? Aubrey and Jason Brand shampoos and conditioners. Pro Line Lite Comb Thru moisturizer. Been adding jojoba oil to it to help combat dryness in this cold weather. So far I like the results.

5. What is your shampooing and detangling routine? Is it working for you? I band. It's been a Godsend. I no longer dread shampoo day.

6. What is your favorite hair style? Flat twist half bun. Top and sides are flat twisted and pulled back in to a bun secured with a slider barrette. Back is done in two-strand twists.

7. What's your biggest concern or frustration with your hair? Growing my hairline back from the damage done to it by microbraids and coping various lengths that I have because I cut out my heat damaged hair.

8. What do you like most about your hair? I love the coarse texture, the thickness and the density of my hair. I love how the right products make my ends coil up.

9. What is the biggest misconception people have about your hair? People as of late have been mistaking my hair for "good" hair. I think people look at my finished hair dos and think that what I've accomplished isn't attainable for them.

10. What was the biggest misconception that you had about your own hair? I used to think my hair was hard and could never be soft and manageable. I just figured that my coarse nappy hair was supposed to be hard and rough to the touch. In my wildest dreams I never thought I could make my nappy hair feel as soft as cotton or as smooth as satin to the touch.

11. How did you find out about cNappymeNow?

12. What do you hope to learn, contribute or get from your membership on cNappmeNow?

1. How long you been nappy? Just over 7 months

2. How long is your hair stretched? 5 inches

3. How long is your loose, freshly shampooed hair maxium shrinkage? It can get packed down pretty much if I let it dry like that. It can go from about 3 inches to one inch in a matter of an hour lol

4. What are your products of choice? Qhemet's product line and Oyin Greg Juice are my staples.

5. What is your shampooing and detangling routine? Is it working for you? I do most of everything while still in the shower. I wash and then get to detangling with QB's detangler. I do it in sections and then use a towel to pat dry. I then twist it or else I am left with a mess of tangles. I used to be able to just go, but I fear the results because detangling after it has washed and dried is something lethal!

6. What is your favorite hair style? A puff or two strand twists.

7. What's your biggest concern or frustration with your hair? Knots right now.

8. What do you like most about your hair? I love my thick hair. I love the texture and all.

9. What is the biggest misconception people have about your hair? That people think I don't have "nappy" hair. I have taken some texture shots to prove. What people see is usually after I have twisted or a serious deep conditioner and detangling session. My hair is kinky and people say that would go natural if they had my hair... chances are that they do!

10. What was the biggest misconception that you had about your own hair? I never expected much out of my hair. I went into this not know and am happy with what I have learned :)

1. How long you been nappy? Almost 5 years

2. How long is your hair stretched? About 5 inches. (I had to cut it back in November.)

3. How long is your loose, freshly shampooed hair maxium shrinkage?
About 1 inch.

4. What are your products of choice?
Aubrey Organics GPB conditioner, Dr. Bronner's Peppermint Soap, Coconut oil in the summer, Qhemet's Heavy Cream in the winter.

5. What is your shampooing and detangling routine? Is it working for you? I wash (without swishing my hair all around like the Prell shampoo commercials) and detangle with my shampoo comb.

6. What is your favorite hair style? BAAs first, then two two-strand twists.

7. What's your biggest concern or frustration with your hair? Right now, I'm not feeling the length. I cut off the heat-damaged ends (4-5 inches) 4 mos ago. I miss my BAAS & Puffs.

8. What do you like most about your hair? Now that it's healthy, I love the feel of it. I absolutely CANNOT keep my hands out of it. I also like the texture and the sheer nappiness of it. Lastly, the versatility: Comb coils, finger coils, twists, Afros, puffs, crownrows, box braids, flat twists, Nubian knots, twist-outs, braid-outs, TWA, wash-n-go, pseudo-locs, up-dos, low pony tails, you name it!

9. What is the biggest misconception people have about your hair? That it's rough to the touch and hard to comb.

10. What was the biggest misconception that you had about your own hair? That I wouldn't look as cute with natural hair. (THAT was a lie. :afro:) I also thought I'd be able to keep it curly like it is when it's wet and I'd be limited to 1 or 2 styles. Thank goodness I've been educated on the beauty and versatility of my hair.

1. How long you been nappy? 2 years

2. How long is your hair stretched? Not sure of the inches, but the front comes below my mouth, the sides just above my shoulders, and the back just above my collar bone.

3. How long is your loose, freshly shampooed hair maxium shrinkage? Never measured it. But I try not to let it shrink to much after I detangle because it then defeats the purpose.

4. What are your products of choice? Designer's Touch Moisture Renu Shampoo, YOU Deep Therapy Repair Treatment, Suave Coconut Conditioner, Shae Butter mixture

5. What is your shampooing and detangling routine? Is it working for you? I shampoo my hair in sections, no less than four. I try to deep condition each time. I detangle with the conditioner on. I try to do this every two weeks.

6. What is your favorite hair style? two-strand twists & twist out

7. What's your biggest concern or frustration with your hair? Growing my hairline and keeping my ends healthy

8. What do you like most about your hair? That it is mine and the versatility

9. What is the biggest misconception people have about your hair? I'm not sure.

10. What was the biggest misconception that you had about your own hair? That I wouldn't be able to handle it on my own. But I was wrong.

How long you been nappy? Almost 6-7 years

2. How long is your hair stretched? 11-14 inches more or less

3. How long is your loose, freshly shampooed hair maxium shrinkage? I swear it is 90%

4. What are your products of choice? Using some homemade products right now and am loving the results, Indian oils and powers, Suave conditioners and Afro Detangler.

5. What is your shampooing and detangling routine? Is it working for you? With the protective style right now it has been a spray, sit and then rinse. As of now it is the best. I normally do banding or big braids.

6. What is your favorite hair style? Twists of varying kinds.

7. What's your biggest concern or frustration with your hair? Growing edges back. Getting everything to one length.

8. What do you like most about your hair? How it behaves when I use or make a product it likes. It is like living with another person.

9. What is the biggest misconception people have about your hair? No misconceptions come to mind right now. Everyone who sees it thinks it is thick and I have a lot of it. Both are correctomondo!!!

10. What was the biggest misconception that you had about your own hair? It would never grow, can't comb it without changing its texture and I had to fight it everytime I had to deal with it.

1. How long you been nappy? 2 years

2. How long is your hair stretched? 9-10 inches

3. How long is your loose, freshly shampooed hair maxium shrinkage? 2-3 inches

4. What are your products of choice? Head and Shoulders shampoo and Suave coconut conditioner. No other products. (Although I plan to find and try out coconut oil soon)

5. What is your shampooing and detangling routine? Is it working for you? I shampoo my scalp, rinse then apply conditioner. After that I detangle in layers starting in rows from the back and making my way toward the front area of my hair. It's working pretty well. I tried sectioning my hair off into 6 sections. I almost went bananas -- it was so frustrating it felt like I was washing 6 different heads of hair. So i'm just gonna stick to what's been working :-)

6. What is your favorite hair style? Shrunken puff.

7. What's your biggest concern or frustration with your hair? It's actually with my scalp -- i'm working on it but it still gets flaky fairly quickly and that hinders my ability to keep styles in as long as I would like to.

8. What do you like most about your hair? The thickness of it :-).

9. What is the biggest misconception people have about your hair? That it's alot to handle -- it's actually quite easy.

10. What was the biggest misconception that you had about your own hair? That it would be difficult to handle or style.

1. How long you been nappy? 6-7 years

2. How long is your hair stretched? In the double-digits

3. How long is your loose, freshly shampooed hair maxium shrinkage?

About 2-3 inches or so.

4. What are your products of choice?

Right now it's Qhemet's Cleansing Tea and Carol's Daughter Healthy Hair Butter.

5. What is your shampooing and detangling routine? Is it working for you?

I wash with my hair in twists (it's the only way for me). After washing, I detangle each twist, then twist it back up to dry.

6. What is your favorite hair style?

Twists.

7. What's your biggest concern or frustration with your hair?

The right side around my temple has decided that it wants to grow slower than the left side by my temple. Also, I have natural bangs. It would be nice if my hair grew a little more evenly.

8. What do you like most about your hair?

The versatility, the texture, and the fact that it's mine :)

9. What is the biggest misconception people have about your hair?

That you can't style it.

10. What was the biggest misconception that you had about your own hair?

I didn't think my hair would shrink so much.

1. How long you been nappy? Since October 2005
2. How long is your hair stretched? About 9-10 inches in some places. But because of my transitioning period I cut some sections more than others so I could hurry up and get nappy.
3. How long is your loose, freshly shampooed hair maxium shrinkage? Maximum shrinkage makes me look like I only have 3 inches of hair.
I get 150% shrinkage.
4. What are your products of choice? Suave Coconut conditioner and Olive Oil by organic root stimulator and most recently coconut oil grease(Yikes. I don't like the word grease; it sounds like axel grease. But nevertheless it helps my hair)

5. What is your shampooing and detangling routine? Is it working for you? I conditioner wash 90% of the time regularly each week; sometimes will wait two weeks and then after I dry it with the quick dry towel I rub the olive oil on it and use a large tooth comb and no problems with tangling..

6. What is your favorite hair style? Straight up two strand twist with a part in the middle front. Sort of looks like the wedge haircut of the past
7. What's your biggest concern or frustration with your hair? I have a burnt out hairline on one side; that's the reason I wear hair down in the front sides.

.

8. What do you like most about your hair? I love how it feels and it's fun to use hand in fro disease as a reason to twist and retwist the hair. I also like that I'm no longer concerned about fog and rain. It's just heavenly.

9. What is the biggest misconception people have about your hair?
People think my hair is cut short when it's not and they think I've had it done by a hair braider. As time goes on I get better at twisting, although I havent mastered the flat twist.

10. What was the biggest misconception that you had about your own hair? I used to think my hair wouldn't grow long but it gets a little longer each month: surprisingly so. And I have high hopes now for achieving shoulder length so I can put it up sometimes and or wear a twisted bun.

1. How long you been nappy? 4 Months (since Oct. 10th 2006)

2. How long is your hair stretched? 3 inches in most places except for the very front and very back which are more like 2 1/2

3. How long is your loose, freshly shampooed hair maxium shrinkage? About .5 Inches It's crazy. If I don't maniuplate it at all, it looks like I got my BC all over again, except my hair has filled in for those places that were a little more sparse before.

4. What are your products of choice? I'm still trying to figure out what works, but so far I like Shea Moisture, Dr. Bronner's Peppermint Shampoo, Coconut oil, shea butter and elasta QP mango butter.

5. What is your shampooing and detangling routine? Is it working for you? I use the pepermint castile soap about twice a week and have yet to figure out a detangling routine that works. For the most part I've just mainly been finger combing what I can.

6. What is your favorite hair style? Twist out =max cottony fluffyness. I just wanna molest my hair all day. I have major HIFD...

7. What's your biggest concern or frustration with your hair? My ends look whispy/ bulbous when I try and do two strand twists, and I don't really know how to part well, work with the back of my head, cornrow or flat twist :(

8. What do you like most about your hair? Everything? I dunno. I'm obsessed. Um I guess the thing I love the most is that shrinkage actually makes for versatility with my hair. I keeps tha people guessin'!

9. What is the biggest misconception people have about your hair? That the shrunken hair is the length of my hair

10. What was the biggest misconception that you had about your own hair? That I'd never be able to cope with my completley natural texture.

7. What's your biggest concern or frustration with your hair? Growing my hairline and keeping my ends healthy

9. What is the biggest misconception people have about your hair?

that it's ugly and should be straightened or cut short.

10. What was the biggest misconception that you had about your own hair?

i had no idea that my hair was shaped the way it was. i mean, i never knew exactly what my hair would look like natural. i didn't know nappy hair was simply very small spirals. i thought my hair would simply be a mass of mess like a brillo pad. i mean, even when it looks quite messy there is an order to it all. i consider my hair an architechtural work of genius. it keeps my scalp cool in the summer, it keeps it dry when it rains, it does so many things thar are just structurally quite brilliant. i think my hair is a genetic wonder.

1. How long you been nappy? 4 years most recently, but wore a TWA during the early 1990s

2. How long is your hair stretched? 6-8 inches (longer in the back and on the sides)

3. How long is your loose, freshly shampooed hair maximum shrinkage? 5 inches

4. What are your products of choice? Suave conditioners, White Rain coconut shampoo and White Rain Ocean Mist conditioner, most VO5 conditioners, store brand vegetable oils

5. What is your shampooing and detangling routine?Wash weekly, pick out while still damp after applying a light oil (liquid only--usually grocery store vegetable oil), and retwist while still damp

6. What is your favorite hair style? 2 strand twists in winter, puff during the summer

7. What's your biggest concern or frustration with your hair? None right now-I'm pretty happy with it. I wish the twists lasted longer than a week, though!

8. What do you like most about your hair? I love the thickness and the nappiness. I rinse my twists each morning in the shower and they spring back to life. Very little retwisting is needed on a daily basis.

9. What is the biggest misconception people have about your hair? That it takes a lot of time to maintain

10. What was the biggest misconception that you had about your own hair? I never knew how much the daily rinsing would help my hair to stay healthy. I also was surprised that I didn't need to apply products to my scalp.

1. How long you been nappy? 4.5 years

2. How long is your hair stretched? 7-10inches

3. How long is your loose, freshly shampooed hair maxium shrinkage? about 2-3 inches

4. What are your products of choice? WATER, Luster's Pink Oil moisturizing cream hairdress, Hair cholesteral

6. What is your favorite hair style? Kinky twist pinups

7. What's your biggest concern or frustration with your hair? My hair has the tendency to be BIG. I love that most of the time except when I want it to lay down. It always has puffed up no matter what (even permed). My hair is kind of stuck up sometimes

8. What do you like most about your hair? The phat, coily, curlyfryyness. Also its abundance

9. What is the biggest misconception people have about your hair? It's impossible to comb out. Sooo not true. I'm a professional nap buster. Its all in the technique

10. What was the biggest misconception that you had about your own hair?
I thought it was the GOOD kind. Strangers kept reinforcing this too. I eventually realized I had regular nappy hair. I still can't believe how popular my nappy hair has been. If people only knew that they have the same GOOD stuff hidden under those perms and weaves.

I've been nappy for 1 year and 8 months. I keep my hair in a 2 1/2 to 3 inch TWA. My fav products are Oyin's Greg Juice, Shine & Define (mixed with a little extra aloe vera gel), Uber Poo-bar, and Honey Hemp conditioner. I usually wash my hair once per week. Since it's short, I wet it, lather, rinse, condition for 45 minutes to 1 hour, rinse, and let it air dry. Although my hair isn't really long enough for a good one, my fav hair style is the puff. My biggest frustration is FRIZZ!!!! What I like most is that it's easy to maintain. I haven't had anyone voice any misconceptions about my hair yet. I didn't have any misconceptions about my napps because I was raised by a nappy. I grew up watching her love and take care of her hair, and realized it was possible for me to do the same.

1. How long you been nappy? Almost 6 years

2. How long is your hair stretched? 5-6 inches

3. How long is your loose, freshly shampooed hair maxium shrinkage? About half an inch to an inch.

4. What are your products of choice? Anita Grants Shampoo bar and rhassoul cubes. Castor oil with rosemary oil. Shea butter and a coconut oil mix. A spritz made with rosewater, peppermint oil and suave condish.

5. What is your shampooing and detangling routine? Is it working for you?
I put big plaits in my hair, and wash each off those seperately. Take forever, but makes detangling a breeze.

6. What is your favorite hair style? Twist outs

7. What's your biggest concern or frustration with your hair? Growing my hairline back, and looking after my hair in general. I know all the theory, but have a hard time outting it into practice.

8. What do you like most about your hair? I love the thickness of it, and I love how soft it feels.

9. What is the biggest misconception people have about your hair? That it's rough and tough. My hair is actually quite delicate, and needs lots of babying.

10. What was the biggest misconception that you had about your own hair? That I couldn't wear it natural because it was too tough.

1. How long you been nappy? 8 Months & counting

2. How long is your hair stretched? About 3 inches I think

3. How long is your loose, freshly shampooed hair maxium shrinkage? It shrinks to about 1/2 inch to 1 inch

4. What are your products of choice? I'm Still experimenting w/ various products..so far I really like Trader Joe's Nourish Spa Conditioner for detanlging, co-washes, etc...I like Suave conditioners (diluted w/ water) for co-washes, herbal tea rinses, virgin coconut oil, castor oil, raw shea butter, still haven't decided on a perfect cleanser (either black soap, liquid castile soap, Creame of Nature poo, poo bars, co-washes, baking soda, sea salt, ayurvedic herbs, etc) , & oh yeah cannot forget WATER!!

5. What is your shampooing and detangling routine? Is it working for you? I've been no-pooing lately w/ various ingredients...I section off my hair in big twists & cleanse each section , re-twist the sections & then rinse my entire head w/ herbal tea/ACV...I wrap a towel around my head to soak up the drippies, use my Trader Joe's Nourish Soa Conditioner to detangle w/ a wide tooth comb & detangling brush..then I twist my hair to stretch/dry..it's working so far

6. What is your favorite hair style? Well my hair is too short to do a lot of styles but so far I like the shrunken fro, the stretched fro w/ headband & my most recent style: corrnrows or flat-twists in front & puff in the back

7. What's your biggest concern or frustration with your hair? My biggest concern is finding the right products & right routine to maintain a healthy scalp & maximum growth/length...sometimes I get frustrated w/ the shrinkage & how much time it takes/patience when I cleanse my scalp/hair b/c since my hair is sooo dense I have to take the time to section off my hair in order to effectively reach my scalp!!

8. What do you like most about your hair? I like how thick it appears to be...I like the versatility of styles I will be able to do once it grows & I like how well my tight napps hold styles

9. What is the biggest misconception people have about your hair? People assume that my hair is rough & tough....that it could never grow...that it is unmanageable....they also assume that I have "bad" hair that needs to be covered up or fried!

10. What was the biggest misconception that you had about your own hair? I used to totally agree w/ my answer to question #9

1. How long you been nappy? I last chemically treated my hair in January 2002 and towards the end of that year all chemical traces in my hair was gone.

2. How long is your hair stretched? My hair length is pretty uneven, the middle part of my hair and below is quite long it is at shoulder blades length but the top part is shorter maybe 6 inches. I cannot give an exact measurement right now because i have my hair styled in two French plaits. If i had to guess i would say that my hair is around maybe 10-11 when stretched at the back. My hair has broken of a few times at the front but the back part seems to grow ok.
3. How long is your loose, freshly shampooed hair maximum shrinkage? I am not sure but it strinks down a lot.
4. What are your products of choice? Indian hemp, Sulphur 8, Hair and scalp oil and Aphogee shampoo are the products that i am using right now.

5. What is your shampooing and detangling routine? Is it working for you? I just wash my hair comb it and plait it fairly quickly after. They way i have got it now works well for me.
6. What is your favorite hair style? My favourite hair style does change but right now i would have to say that it was two French plaits.
7. What's your biggest concern or frustration with your hair? How the front part of my hair breaks to often and how my hair seems to grow at a different rate long in the back and shorter at that front. This can be a little frustrating to me at times. It has always seemed to follow that pattern even when i was a child. I also suffer from very dry scalp and i think that can be adding to my hair breakage problem.
8. What do you like most about your hair? Some of the style options that are available to me so i would say what i most liked about my hair is the versatility of it. I love it when i leave my hair loose after it is plaited and my hair is full and Afro.

9. What is the biggest misconception people have about your hair? Not sure
10. What was the biggest misconception that you had about your own hair? I am not sure but i have thought to myself at times that my hair may not grow much more and that it maybe genetic for me to have my hair lenght but sometimes i change my mind on that.

1. How long you been nappy? 4 or 5 years…maybe almost 5. Not sure…>.>

2. How long is your hair stretched? Depending where I pull from, 6-8 inches.

3. How long is your loose, freshly shampooed hair maximum shrinkage? Maybe 3 inches. It’s incredibly short though…it competes with my little brother’s hair when it lets it grow.

4. What are your products of choice? I really don’t know. I’ve been trying new things to see what works for my hair. Currently, I’m using Pantene Pro V Relaxed and Natural.

5. What is your shampooing and detangling routine? Normally, I wash about 2 or 3 times…depending on how long I waited and condition. Then detangle my hair in about 13 sections. Although recently, I tried the banding technique and it was wonderful.

6. What is your favorite hair style? Two strand twists, and puffs.

7. What's your biggest concern or frustration with your hair? Getting rid of split ends…growing the back of my hair again! I’ve been doing allot of cutting due to heat damage…and split ends!! >.>

8. What do you like most about your hair? I love how thick it is and how I can row my hair for a week, take it out, and I can pull a puff or a fro cause it isn’t straight!

9. What is the biggest misconception people have about your hair? That my hair is easy to manage!!!!!

10. What was the biggest misconception that you had about your own hair? I thought that it would be easy to manage!!! That I could put anything in it cause it was natural, that it was extremely strong, and that I wouldn’t have split ends!

3. How long is your loose, freshly shampooed hair maxium shrinkage?
My hair dont 'shrink' much, maybe 2 inches..

4. What are your products of choice? Almost anything natural and simple...I wash with liquid black soap or liquid castile soap, condition with Whole Foods brand conditioner in Mint or Carol's Daughter khoret amen conditioner, and use Carol's Daughter healthy hair butter or the shea butter products I make.

5. What is your shampooing and detangling routine? Is it working for you? I dont comb/brush my hair unless its wet or after a braid out... I also use my fingers to comb/seperate my coils to keep breakage low

6. What is your favorite hair style? Braids or fro

7. What's your biggest concern or frustration with your hair? Dont have any concerns or frustrations with my hair...

1. How long you been nappy? 1 yr & 3 mos.

2. How long is your hair stretched? 7 - 8 inches more or less

3. How long is your loose, freshly shampooed hair maxium shrinkage? Not sure.

4. What are your products of choice? Right now I'm currently using Burt Bees More Moisture Raspberry & Brazil Nut shampoo/conditioner, Qhemet Biologics Olive Cream conditioning detangler & Amla/Olive Heavy Cream and for my scalp, Doo Gro Anti-Itch Growth Oil.

5. What is your shampooing and detangling routine? Is it working for you? After I shampoo/condition, I add QB detangler and use my Goody's ouchless brush to detangle. As my hair gets longer it's been taking me longer to detangle. I'm in the process of looking for other 'easier' methods of detangling.

6. What is your favorite hair style? 2-strand flat twists in the front and sides with 2-strand twists at the back.

7. What's your biggest concern or frustration with your hair? The time it takes to do my hair from start to finish. Right now it takes me 5 1/2 hours. And also knowing when to trim my hair. I don't have a good trimming routine down just yet.

8. What do you like most about your hair? I love the color and thickness of my hair. I also like how it coils at the ends.

9. What is the biggest misconception people have about your hair? Hmmm... that's a good question because no one really tells me anything about my hair per se. A lot of people just look at it while others have given me positive compliments like, 'Your hair is so pretty', 'Your hair is so thick' etc.

10. What was the biggest misconception that you had about your own hair? I never would've thought it would do what it does and that is, coil up at the ends. For some odd reason, I didn't expect it to look the way that it does. And I didn't expect it to be as soft as it is. Shame on ME!!!
