4. What are your products of choice? I use anything simple
5. What is your shampooing and detangling routine? Is it working for you? I do most of it in the shower. Shampoo, condition, take my shower, rinse conditioner out and make 4 large secions and wrap my head in a towel. I do the rest of the detangling while i dry off. I take each of the 4 sections and make a few large twists to set overnight. Voila! The 'out' lasts all week.

2. How long is your hair stretched? 12-13 inches
3. How long is your loose, freshly shampooed hair maxium shrinkage? Maybe 4-5 inches. Not sure
4. What are your products of choice? I'M STILL LOOKING FOR PRODUCTS THAT WORK FOR ME
5. What is your shampooing and detangling routine? Still looking for a routine that works for me. I was shampooing once a week and realized that was unnecessary and it leaves the hair soooo dry. I am now shampooing approx 1-2 a month. I detangle maybe twice a week.
6. What is your favorite hair style? Due to heat damage, it is hard to style. I did braid it in small box braids and rolled each individual braid with 1/2 inch rollers. That was my best result so far.
7. What's your biggest concern or frustration with your hair? Heat damage and 4 inches of permed hair remaining. Sorry, but not ready to cut my hair. I'm cutting off a little at a time.
8. What do you like most about your hair? I have never seen my hair in a fro before. It was amazing to see how beautiful and soft it is. However, only some parts curl into a fro because there is still some permed hair (approx 7 yrs ago was my last perm) and a little heat damage)
9. What is the biggest misconception people have about your hair? Haven't gone outside enough with it out I guess to receive many comments on my hair.
10. What was the biggest misconception that you had about your own hair? That I could do nothing with it. That it would always be soooo dry and soooo coarse. I mean, I didn't even know about detanglers and managed to snatch quite a bit of it out trying to comb it after shampooing...

2. How long is your hair stretched? 4-5 inches I believe I just cut it again like 4 months ago.
3. How long is your loose, freshly shampooed hair maximum shrinkage? Not sure.
4. What are your products of choice? A Natural shampoo, either Suave or VO5 conditioner, Avocado oil and Sweet almond oil
5. What is your shampooing and detangling routine? Is it working for you? I usually either detangle before I wash or wash and then detangle it all depends on how I feel and where I want to wash. It is working for me.
6. What is your favorite hair style? Two Strand Twists
7. What's your biggest concern or frustration with your hair? Single strand knots. I really hate those kind of knots the most. I'm also concerned my scalp will never be right.
8. What do you like most about your hair? I like it's personality. It does what it wants when it wants and I usually let.
9. What is the biggest misconception people have about your hair? That's it's not soft.
10. What was the biggest misconception that you had about your own hair? I don't think I really had any misconceptions. I know my hair wasn't going to be like it was when I was relaxing and I accepted that from the begin. I usually only do what I know I can do with and don't push it to do something I know it won't do.
11. How did you find out about cNappymeNow? Nappturality post
12. What do you hope to learn, contribute or get from your membership on cNappmeNow? Just better ways to take care of my hair. Because I believe I have a mixture or cNapp and "regular" napps I just want to learn all I can about different ways to care for my hair. I hope I find different things to do with my hair and maybe even help out a fellow nappy or two.

Posted December 5th, 2007 07:30 PM IP1. How long you been nappy? since 2002
2. How long is your hair stretched? From my ears forward is about 7 -8 streatched from my ears back to my neck is about 3 -4 streatched? I have no idea how this happened
3. How long is your loose, freshly shampooed hair maxium shrinkage? about 1.5 inches uniformly. My front seems to shrink much more than the back
4. What are your products of choice? I can only use homemade products becuase of my allergies to preservatives etc. I use shealoe butter and flax seed gel. I also have a jojoba, olive, and castor oil mix with fresh vanilla beans in it and another jar with infused amla oil. I use coconut oil and EOs for scent and tea tree oil as a preservative. like the results so far.
5. What is your shampooing and detangling routine? Is it working for you? I know this my sound gross but I dont wash my hair very often at all perhapse only 1 time every month or so. What i do is wet it thouroughly with distilled water from a spray bottle, put my shealoe in my hair and then slather a ton of flaxseed gel into it. I make my hair so plaint and it is a dream to part. I rarely loose any hair now that I discovered this gel. I do this when I need a style change 2x a week. I also do the baggie method when my hair feels dry between redo's.
6. What is your favorite hair style? I part my hair just behind my ears. in the front I do flat twists and in the back I do braid bumps usually 3 rows because the back is so much shorter than the front. braid bumps are when you braid the hair and then tuck the braid into the base which lease a litte square afro bump. I'm hoping my hubby will get my a digital camera for my bday this weekend. then I can take pics and make a fotki
7. What's your biggest concern or frustration with your hair? getting my back to be a managable length. I had severe breakage back there from pressing and heat torture because I did not know how to deal with my texture. but now that i am learning that my hair loves my homemade products and is managable without heat and there are others out there with my type of hair... Things are looking up
8. What do you like most about your hair? I love the texture, now that its moisturized, and most of all the color. My hair is a light honey brown which turns a redish gold color in sunlight.
9. What is the biggest misconception people have about your hair? That it is an unmanagable nappy brillo pad that won't grow. "my moms own words" tisk tisk! but then again, I am the only one with my texture every one else is a 4a.
10. What was the biggest misconception that you had about your own hair? I used to think my hair was hard and could never be manageable. I just thought that it would always be a dry mess and heat or extensions were the only options for me.
11. How did you find out about cNappymeNow? Just stumbled upon it while surfing the net after looking at nappyme's other site.
12. What do you hope to learn, contribute or get from your membership on cNappmeNow? I want to give and recieve knowledge and also to help allert others to the terrible chemicals that are put into black hair products, not just in perms.

Posted December 17th, 2007 02:31 PM IPI've been natural since feb 26 2007.I cut my hair lower than a fade at the time.
I think my hair is around 5 to 6 inches streched. After it grew three inches i stopped counting.
my shamooed hair is 1 inch or so.
My product of choice is h20 for moisture.for softness i love to use shea butter.
I also use jojoba oil,tea tree oil, coconut oil & lots of co washing.
I shampoo maybe twice a month but only with small amounts. To detangle my hair
I hand comb while damp. Then i brush my hair.My final step is with a pic or wide tooth comb.
My favorite hair style in the whole world is the classic plaits!
My biggest frustration with my hair is the dryness.Plus it let's me know who's in charge for that day lol!
What i love about my hair is the good & the bad.I love it when people look at me like i wish she would do something with her hair.I just smile because i know my hair healthier than there's!
The biggest misconception people make about my hair is that it's not up to there standard.
The biggest misconception i had about my hair was that it would hurt every time i tried to fix it!WOO WAS I WRONG!
I learned about the sit by net.
I hope i will learn something new from the site.

3. How long is your loose, freshly shampooed hair maxium shrinkage? usually shrinks up to 50%
4. What are your products of choice? Still trying to nail down the perfect shampoo, I like Qhemet's Heavy Cream, pure coconut oil and shea. Jane Carter's nourish and shine is nice for the smell, but I can't see kicking out $22 every other month.

2. How long is your hair stretched? No clue. I don't plan on measuring it until I hit the 6 month mark:) I will keep you posted
3. How long is your loose, freshly shampooed hair maxium shrinkage? Like and Inch
4. What are your products of choice? I am still trying to find the products that work for my hair.
5. What is your shampooing and detangling routine? I have been co-washing every day after the gym, but now I am trying to cut back to once a week of co-washing then once a month to clarify and deep condition or hot oil.
6. What is your favorite hair style? Right now all i can afford is a afro:)
7. What's your biggest concern or frustration with your hair? Trying to figure out what it needs to thrive and look good.
8. What do you like most about your hair? I am still learning to love it. The texture was not what I expected it to be. In fact, I just came to the conclusion that i am a cnapp though I do have patches springy coils and waves through out my hair. The majority of my hair is cnapp at . I get ton of shrinkage but my hair isnt that nappy i can run my fingers right thru my hair with out cutting up my fingers lol;)
9. What is the biggest misconception people have about your hair? Its more so a misconception people have about me with my hair natural now. they think i won't be able to handle it and will cave into a relaxer eventually...
10. What was the biggest misconception that you had about your own hair? After doing countless searches of pictures of natural hair I thought my hair would be full of springy coils b/c that is all i saw on the internet and thats all people talked about. But now, after seeing all the pics here of your gorgeous hair and styles I am being to appreciate and love my hair

Posted January 5th, 2008 12:20 PM IP1. How long you been nappy?
The last time I relaxed my hair was Feb 9th but I've been natural since early May 07. 7 months.
2. How long is your hair stretched?
4-5 inches. Shortest at the back and longest in the middle of my head.
3. How long is your loose, freshly shampooed hair maxium shrinkage?
I think 75%.
4. What are your products of choice?
Tresemme conditioners, ORS Replenishing pack conditioners and S curl no drip.
5. What is your shampooing and detangling routine? Is it working for you?
Shampooing: When my hair was relaxed and longer I would section each part into twists or plaits/braids and do each section at a time. I'll do that when my hair is natural and longer too.
Detangling: I haven't been doing it to be honest. When I twist my hair or when washing it, shed hair comes out by itself.
6. What is your favorite hair style?
I didn't think that I'd ever wear it, but the afro. I love it with a head band to match my clothes. Second favourite is my twists because it's easy and quick to do (unless I have forums like this one to distract my attention too much)
7. What's your biggest concern or frustration with your hair?
When I play with it too much knots form at the ends so I feel I could lose a few hairs that way. It used to get to me, but now I don't mind so much. It's just one hair out of a hundred thousand so no big deal.
8. What do you like most about your hair?
"I love the coarse texture, the thickness and the density of my hair. I love how the right products make my ends coil up." That's how I feel too. I love grabbing it (gently) and it feels like a jungle.
9. What is the biggest misconception people have about your hair?
When it's in twists, people seem to think they're dreadlocks, as if to say that my hair type cannot be worn loose like all the other hair types. I'll show them how wrong they are.
10. What was the biggest misconception that you had about your own hair?
It would never show long length. Now I can see that after having twists, it does show at least half the length so hopefully one day my hair will be shoulder length. Also that my hair when I was younger was short. I wish I could go back in time and stretch it out to see just how long my hair really was and whether the relaxer did lead to breakage without me knowing it.
11. How did you find out about cNappymeNow?
On another hair care forum not dedicated to nappies but someone started a thread for nappys there.
12. What do you hope to learn, contribute or get from your membership on cNappmeNow?
A place where I can find information for people with hair just like mine. No offence to any wavy/curly nappys, but they won't get the same experience as me e.g. won't get asked if they're dreadlocking, show length faster than me, etc. I just want to learn about different styles for my hair (besides twists, afros and plaits).

2. How long is your hair stretched? 6+ inches
3. How long is your loose, freshly shampooed hair maxium shrinkage? Not sure. Maybe about half an inch on the sides and back and an inch and a half on the top, in the front and in the ,iddle
4. What are your products of choice? Still experimenting but I love the Organics line for deep treatments, co-wash with Suave, and i'm a Kera Care girl!
5. What is your shampooing and detangling routine? Is it working for you? I haven't been shampooing but I think I may start back. It does dry my hair out but I wanna see if my deep conditions take any differently if I shampoo it. I was on loose hair and detangling has never been a problem... maybe my hair is too short for it to cause a problem!?!
6. What is your favorite hair style? Definitely puffs. However, I wear protective styling most of the time in the form of twists and since they aren't long/thick enough to cover scalpage, I wear wraps when I leave the house.
7. What's your biggest concern or frustration with your hair? Looking forward to great hair after wearing twist forever and then getting a rubbish twist out. Also, refreshing my twists often can be a bit of a bore. Even though I love messing about with my hair, I hate that my twists get all raggedy in a heartbeat!
8. What do you like most about your hair? The colour (which is growing out now)
9. What is the biggest misconception people have about your hair? That it's hard to get a comb through it. My moms friend gave me a compliment about how good my hair looks then she said "must be hard to get a comb through it". I was like "no it's not!" In fact, a friend of mine who has much looser hair than mine has broken both one of my combs and one of my brushes in his hair while combing it... that's never happened to me!!!!
10. What was the biggest misconception that you had about your own hair? My mom used to tell me how soft my hair was as a child and I thought that was because I was a child and my hair hadn't quite come into it's true texture. Now that i'm slowly finding the right routine for my hair, it's getting really soft and my mom has commented and told me that my hair is getting back to what it was when I was younger.
11. How did you find out about cNappymeNow? It's been all over the internet hair world :)

2. How long is your hair stretched? 3 1/2 inches
3. How long is your loose, freshly shampooed hair maximum shrinkage? about 1/2 an inch.
4. What are your products of choice? Don't have any at the moment. Still experimenting.
5. What is your shampooing and detangling routine? Is it working for you? I sometimes do the crown and glory technique. It's working ok.
6. What is your favorite hair style? I LOVE twist outs! It's also the only thing I can do that's cute lol!
7. What's your biggest concern or frustration with your hair? Oh I've had about 3 BC's lol! But that's because I didn't know anything about maintaining my hair. It's very very dry and was hard to manage. My hair grows to a breaking point if I don't have braids in. When it gets about 3 inches (which is where it is now) it starts to break off on the left side from my temple to my nape which is how my hair is right now :( But I've learned a lil some some this time around so I refuse to cut it this time.
8. What do you like most about your hair? It's thick and I like how my new growth feels!
9. What is the biggest misconception people have about your hair? That my hair isn't done when it really is, lol.
10. What was the biggest misconception that you had about your own hair? I NEVER thought MY hair could be SOFT and that I could never comb through it without shedding some serious tears, LOL!
11. How did you find out about cNappymeNow? I saw the link in a friend of mines guestbook.
12. What do you hope to learn, contribute or get from your membership on cNappmeNow? I hope to learn more about maintaining my hair, how to keep it healthy growing it to it's full potential and I'm also hoping to learn how to style my hair in ways to help it grow without always wearing braids.

Posted January 31st, 2008 10:49 PM IP1. How long you been nappy? 11 years now
2. How long is your hair stretched? 6 inches
3. How long is your loose, freshly shampooed hair maxium shrinkage? Prior to locking my hair, it was closer to ten inches. But my 4 daughters, their hair ranges from 12 inches to 20 plus inches.
4. What are your products of choice? For my family, I have been using African Royale products since I went natural. This year, I began utilizing a new product called Nubian Heritage Raw Shea Butter Revitalizing Wash with soy milk, vitamin e, frankincense and myrrh, and I love how a very little goes a long way.
5. What is your shampooing and detangling routine? Is it working for you? Now that it is winter, I shampoo our hair twice a month. I section the girls' hair in four to six sections, then shampoo them. I condition their hair, then I rinse and towel blot. I then use small sections and detangle each using a plastic, wide-toothed comb; and Daily Doctor Leave in Conditioner. I detangle from the ends upward as well. For my own hair, I can still section it to shampoo it, but I don't have to detangle it anymore.
6. What is your favorite hair style? My favorite style for the girls is the two strand twist, hands down. I can do them in arious sizes, and then I can style the twists. Since I have so many children, I also have 2 sons, I don't have much time for many other styles, though every now and then I get creative, more in the summer than anything.
7. What's your biggest concern or frustration with your hair? for two of my daughters, they have cNapp hair, and it is fine and their hairlines are sporadic. So styling their hair requires a more thought out strategy as opposed to just shampooing, detangling and styling. I tend to make everything on their hair in smaller sections or partings, so that it gives their hair a fuller look and I tend to style their flat twists or cornrows to the side in order to create the illusion that their hair line is full. For the other 2, I can do most anything to their hair just because they have a stronger and more full head of hair.
8. What do you like most about your hair? I love the texture and manageability of all of our hair. I love the strength and the uniqueness of our hair.
9. What is the biggest misconception people have about your hair? They think our hair is unmanageable.
10. What was the biggest misconception that you had about your own hair? That I couldn't so anything with it. But it didn't take more than one month to get out of wearing a simple fro or puff.
11. How did you find out about cNappymeNow? I was doing a search on natural hair, twists and I think "how-to" videos and this website came up first.

2. How long is your hair stretched? 4 inches or less(i have to learn and get the patience to retain growth)
3. How long is your loose, freshly shampooed hair maxium shrinkage? not sure, i usually braid it and unbraid it thru out my no-poo process
4. What are your products of choice? olive oil, africa's best oils, gel.
5. What is your shampooing and detangling routine? Is it working for you? i usually no-poo(co-wash) 2 or 3 times, braid it up, and let it air-dry. i detangle as i go.
6. What is your favorite hair style? keeping it braided with extentions or sew-ins---i haven't really learned to wear it out, i wore it in two-strand twists once---but only once. I loved it, but it took forever to do, and my patience wears quite thin at times.
7. What's your biggest concern or frustration with your hair? growing my hairline back too! and the DRYness, oh dear God, the dryness!
8. What do you like most about your hair? I love the coarseness, elasticity, and how i can wear a fro-to-go whenever i feel like it.
9. What is the biggest misconception people have about your hair? that i don't like it(wrong), that i want their hands in it(wrong), And that just because it's dry, that it's extremely unhealthy and they would like to "trim" it for me! I hate that. Most of the time, i dont even have split ends or nots and people still run after me with scissors!
10. What was the biggest misconception that you had about your own hair? that it was unhealthy and i would never be able to do anything with it.

Posted February 10th, 2008 02:05 PM IP1. How long you been nappy? Transitioning for about a year, did the bc in Nov '07
2. How long is your hair stretched? 4 inches or so (never really measured)
3. How long is your loose, freshly shampooed hair maxium shrinkage? ooo wee, max shrinkage probably about an inch or two
4. What are your products of choice? Oddly, I don't have one. I've been searching online for a clue on what to use on my hair texture when I finally stumbled across folks with hair like mine!! I've been reading for almost 3 hrs on this site and I'm too excited!
5. What is your shampooing and detangling routine? Is it working for you? Up until now I was washing my hair using my same method as when it was relaxed (and wondering why I was literally ripping it out trying to detangle).
6. What is your favorite hair style? I've been wear twists w/ extensions because I had no clue that I could manage them on my own-I'm ready to rock my natural when these puppies come down.
7. What's your biggest concern or frustration with your hair? Detangling (I was unable to relate to other natural hair sites UNTIL NOW!)
8. What do you like most about your hair? It's extremely thick which, with care will be beautiful
9. What is the biggest misconception people have about your hair? It's unruley and in need of a relaxer.
10. What was the biggest misconception that you had about your own hair? That it was unruley and could only be manageable with a relaxer (seriously I was ooo soo close and dissapointed in thinking that I would have to resort to creamy crack again). I also thought locs were the best/only option for what I now know is cnappy hair.
11. How did you find out about cNappymeNow? googling and clicking on links for almost a month now
12. What do you hope to learn, contribute or get from your membership on cNappmeNow? I hope to learn how to take better care of my hair in it's natural state and be able to give back to other newbies in need of guidance.

Posted February 12th, 2008 04:04 PM IP 1. How long you been nappy? I'm in my 8th month of nappy bliss, but i was clueless and nappy for the first 18 years of my life and went back and forth a couple of times. I've been nappy most of my life so it's easier to say that I had a relaxer for about 8 years in all that time.
2. How long is your hair stretched? I stopped measuring it but mostly likely between 4-5 inches give or take an inch.
3. How long is your loose, freshly shampooed hair maxium shrinkage? My hair shrinks about 75%-85% probably about 1.5 inches. i notice that I get shrinkage and then compounded shrinkage. In the summer when I washing and go the shrinkage gets more and more until I look like I still have the same twa I had in July--just denser.
4. What are your products of choice?Trader joes nourish spa conditioner (summer) and shampoo, Trader Joe's refresh (winter), castor oil, ORS loc and twist gel (twists), Vatika oil, amla oil, Suave naturals conditioners, coconut milk, honey, coconut oil, fantastic IC gel (smooth edges). This list is long. i am a true minimalist. I never use more than 2 of these things at once and i usually wait for my hair to act up to switch stuff up. i mentioned all of that because these are the only products that I continue to use as needed. I am cured of being the product junkie when I first started this process.
5. What is your shampooing and detangling routine? Is it working for you? It's cold here. In the summer i wash and go and detangle with my fingers under running water and wear my beloved shrunken fro with or without a band and a puff when I want a change. In winter i do twists and braids. i wash my hair loose and detangle with my fingers. After gently squeezing as much of the water out with my hair as i can with a towel or t-shirt I finger part my hair into big box braids. When it's dry I finger detangle each section as I finger part it into big box braids. The entire process take me 1 hour--tops. It works for me--I don't struggle with detangling. oh i conditioner wash mostly and do ACV rinses and shampoo with Trader Joe's nourish spa shampoo after using gel.
6. What is your favorite hair style?Puff in stretched hair. My face is an oval and normal looking size but my head is big so I'm not crazy about my shrunken puff though I love the texture that way best.
7. What's your biggest concern or frustration with your hair? My hair line is not a full as I'd like on the right side. i lost my hairline after the birth of my oldest daughter it came back but never as strong as before. My hair has grown out to the beginnings of that in between stage. I feel it sometimes shrinks to a funny shape i don't enjoy as well as i did my twa. trouble is i have a very bohemian--though never hippy-personality and style. I like to be simple, comfortable and free. All that work of stretching irritates me at times. Also--my husband loved my hair long and misses the length a lot. He's really respectful but honest about his feeling. He gets really excited when he sees that my hair is growing. Thank God it's not a texture thing for him.
8. What do you like most about your hair?I love the texture because it's mine. Not sure i qualify as a cnap but my hair is nappy to me. My hair is very coily when wet and retains the coil when dry but the finish is considerably duller--my Mom calls it loc-ish. I have been told that I have that "good hair" but then I've also gotten that funny "what are you doing wearing your hair out when it's nappy like that"--look and comments too. In any case, I have 3 gorgeous daughters and none of our heads are exactly the same and one of them is definitely a c-nap all the way. I love to do all their hair and tell them so as much as I can.
9. What is the biggest misconception people have about your hair? That I plan on ;"doing something with it" when it gets long again. As far as I'm concerned, "honey, I'm doing it now"!
10. What was the biggest misconception that you had about your own hair?I never expected to see a coil-wet or dry. Looking back i remember the coils before i relaxed but i used to wash my hair with balsam shampoo and use cholesterol after every wash and my hair was a dry hard mess. I know now that my hair hates that stuff.
11. How did you find out about cNappymeNow?AuNappturale has been a tremendous inspiration to me. When I was transitioning i was positive that my hair would look exactly like hers once I did my BC and I couldn't wait to get to where she was. I still see many similarities. I was checking her fotki for updates and she mentioned you site briefly so I decided to check it out. Glad i did because i was so impressed with all I saw and registered the same day!
12. What do you hope to learn, contribute or get from your membership on cNappmeNow? This seems like a good place for me to complete my mental transition. I don't have many good examples around me and people still look at me like I'm stupid for chopping all that long hair. Every once in a while my husband runs across an old picture of my fried days and gets that love sick look in his eye. My kids also make an occasional insensitive remark. I need as much support as I can get. I've always had long hair and it's been my one vanity. I struggle with acne and am finally realizing the beauty in my features as they are not this society's ideal. I loved my TWA but it definitely stripped me of anything to hide behind. I hope to also gain practically knowledge and I'll share whatever has worked for me.
I got kind of wordy in all the excitement of finding ya'll so I bolded the short answers.
