can disturb your appetite by provoking a noticeable insulin response that eventually lowers blood sugar levels (makes you hungry and moody), although some research shows coffee actually increases insulin sensitivity – but the result may be the same lowering of blood sugar. You should remind yourself that if you get hungry shortly after drinking your morning coffee, it is not because you need food. Coffee is not allowed on the paleo diet, but most people drink it anyway.
Their may be a small metabolic advantage from caffeine but In our challenge we did not directly address this in the point system but I HIGHLY recommend coffee be limited to 1 drink per day and athletes be honest about their consumption. In other words, if you drink 4 cups a day you are NOT going to boost metabolism more without suffering the insulin effects and if you’re woofing down a danish after or don’t get result – OWN IT.
