1: LINKING TO PICTURES
2: PUTTING PICTURES DIRECTLY INTO FORUM MESSAGES
NOTE: when you post a link or a direct picture, put "link" or "pic" somewhere in the message title.

1: LINKING TO PICTURES
Direct links to pictures that have been uploaded to a web server are possible. The complete address of the picture, beginning with "http://" must be given. This board will automagically turn a correctly formatted address into a clickable hyperlink. For example:

http://www.handspiral.com/images/bl...oldPinchDet.jpg

There are plenty of sites on the net that will host your pictures for FREE. For beginners I recommend:
http://photobucket.com/
It is fast and easy to sign up and begin putting your pictures on the net and it is FREE. After uploading your picture to photobucket, find the thumbnail version of your picture in your album. Below the thumbnail, there are three links, "Url," "Tag," and "Img." The Url address is the LINK to your full-size picture. Copy and Paste it into your message. Better still, use the Tag address. It will put your picture directly into your message, without readers having to click on anything!

There! You are now posting your pics like a pro!

2: PUTTING PICTURES DIRECTLY INTO FORUM MESSAGES
This requires just a little knowledge of HTML, but it is really easy to do. Take the complete web address of the picture, which should begin with "http://" and add the following directly to the front of it, WITHOUT THE % SIGN:
<%IMG SRC="
and add this to the end of it, with no spaces:
">
For example to put this picture directly into a message:
http://www.handspiral.com/images/RedVaseVSm.jpg
change it to:
<%IMG SRC="http://www.handspiral.com/images/RedVaseVSm.jpg">
but without the % sign.
IMPORTANT: Some browsers will not show your picture, so always back it up in your message by including a clickable link to the same picture. See message #3 on the forum for an example.
NOTE: when you post a link or a direct picture, put "link" or "pic" somewhere in the message title.

One more thing:
Pictures that are too big are cumbersome and make it very trying to read a thread. Let's try to limit images to no more than 1,000 pixels wide, and no more than 150 KB in size. Even that's a bit big -- 800 pixels wide and 125 KB is friendlier.

Good luck, and start posting!

Here is some help I gave Marie. It worked for her;

Find the image you want to post in a new window or tab and right click on it. Select "copy image url"

Go back to to your posting and click on the green icon where my cursor is in the picture below. Paste the url into the dialog box making sure you over-write the "https://". Click OK and it should look like the text below. Click the "preview box" and then submit to check the post.

Hope this helps.....

Hi Robert,

Try this program. It's a free photo editor that will resize and do a lot more. I use it as my goto program.

Dear Greatest Forum Members in the World:
Yes, we love pictures. However, pictures that are too big are cumbersome and make it very trying to read a thread. Let's try to limit images to no more than 1,000 pixels wide, and no more than 150 KB in size. Even that's a bit big -- 800 pixels wide and 125 KB is friendlier.
If you really just have to share a larger picture, then post a link to the picture, rather than the actual picture itself.
Avi, two posts above, gives a link to a good, free photo editor for re-sizing images. There are dozens of other good free photo editors out there, and almost every computer already has some kind of photo editor already installed.
Keep on posting pics, and thank you very much.

I am bumping up this thread to remind everyone about the picture size recommendations that I stipulated in the post just above. Some forum users still have small screens with small resolutions and some users are still on dial-up, and huge pictures are cumbersome for these people.

Also, lets watch the thread-jacking:

Please, no one take any of the above personally. This is the Greatest Forum In The World with the greatest members and posters, everyone please continue to make your great contributions.

Hi Guys,

Is there a way to post an image that does not have a http:// address - Just a regular jpeg? I know how to attach a jpeg so that you can click on it and see the photo, but not how to just make the photo appear so that you don't need to click a link.

Thanks,
Marie

This is covered in the first post of this thread. I have copied the relevant section below:
