richlyblest ...against fruit flies, gnats, whatever you wanna call them. Well, maybe I'm not yet, but they HAVE to go! But they are so hard to eliminate.

There are hundreds of them in my kitchen, especially, but also in my upstairs bathroom. (or that's where i most notice them) Fly spray kills the houseflies, but the fruit flies remain. Someone said to put olive oil with bits of fruit in little containers. The fruit will draw them, and they'll drown in the oil. It works for the few that are dumb enough to crawl in, but most of them remain. Someone else said dish soap and vinegar- only 3 of them were dumb enough to try that! So...

WHAT CAN I DO? They are driving me crazy!! Any ideas?

jetshar Someone told me if you put some spearmint tea leaves (cut from outside) in a glass of water it helps. i tried it the other day and it seems to be helping.

Jillee I have the same problem!!!:( I finally started killing literally everyone i see:) On a really bad day i kill LOTS of them, but now i hardly ever see them around. Someone told me you need to spray several times, cause the eggs hatch every 2 weeks? I thought that helped. I think mine were hatching in my house plants...everytime i'd move one they would go flying:( That's one place i made sure to spray!!

richlyblest Larinda, what did you spray them with? Because yesterday I sprayed the kitchen a minimum of 3 times, and i didn't think any of them died!

damys You need that bug spray for barns, livestock etc. I am sure it is harmful, but it has always worked good for me.

I hate gnats... or whatever they are.

justnita I've used apple cider vinegar with just a few drops of dish soap and it's worked for me. I just put around 1/2 inch in the bottom of a glass and leave it sitting on the counter. I don't think white vinegar works. I've also noticed it works best if I don't have any fruit or anything else they like on the counter besides the vinegar. Hope you can find a way to get rid of them. They're so annoying!

bpchecker I had so many of them but then emptied my trash and most dissappeared :) not sure what that says about my filthy kitchen....

You know, I think I used white vinegar- that may one reason it didn't work!

virginiadawn One of my friends just blogged that she uses apple juice or sweet wine or I think apple vinegar would work to. Touch the top with a drop of dish soap to break the surface tension and they will drown.

lainasmommy I currently have a jar sitting on my counter with apple cider vinegar with a couple drops of dish soap. I didn't think it was working until I picked up the jar and looked at the bottom and there are alot of them in there! So it has worked for me, but I don't know if it is going to get rid of them totally or not. I probably will keep the jar around for awhile and see if they totally disappear or not.

Mikeswife I heard that if you spray with listerine it will kill mosquitoes or make them leave. I tied it for knats and I thought that worked also.

richlyblest I am currently trying the apple cider vinegar/dishsoap method. I'm catching quite a few. We'll see if it makes an overall difference!
