Jaysgirl Thelma, your home looks so modern and classy. I like your colors too, Di. Sorry, Jessica I don't have Xanga but I'm sure yours are nice too :) I would have to agree with you Valita, my house sure could use a paint lift again. Since I like to wear a lot of neutral and earthtone colors, that's probably what I'd go with!

smilesbymiles Thelma, I LOVE your blue guest room! Can I come stay sometime? :) I just found this thread today so maybe I'm too late to throw in a few things I learned when we were building two years ago. For a floor of the house, take all the color chips you are thinking of and line them up together (don't forget the trim color ... even if it's white trim you will need a "cool" or "warm" white depending on your wall color) to see if they "flow." I knew what I was doing w/ my kitchen cabinets so I started by working around that .. .finding the right yellow and then choosing the shades in the rooms adjoining and then moving out from there. On Friday it will be exactly 2 yrs that we moved in to our new house (and we're still not finished w/ it!) and I thought of posting photos on xanga as a sort of commemoration. If I do, I'll try to remember to link back (no promises. I'm the world's worst forgetter).
We have a LOT of color in our house and I like it b/c it makes me feel warm and happy. If I could have two houses (LOL, how would I ever keep up then???) I would have a second house w/ lots of white beadboard walls, ?? wood ceilings maybe, and only accent w/ colors in the throw pillows, rugs, etc. I love that look in the summertime b/c it's so restful but that house would have to be WAY DOWN SOUTH where it is never cold. For now I will hermit the winters in my yellow kitchen w/ a cup of coffee and ignore the barren landscape outside.
Good luck w/ the project and have fun! I love to paint!

delsgirl I like your blue room too Thelma. Actually my hubby and I were both looking at the pics and I commented to him "I like that blue color". His reply? "I like the whoopie pies." :D
Please remember to link us to your house pics, Michelle. I'd love to see them. :)

HappyMusser me too. can't wait to see them, michelle.
if it makes any of you feel better. this is just a rental house. i love the wood floors and (nasty) plaster walls that lent themselves well to color. It was trashed when we looked at it, and our landlords attitude was 'if you want the cheap rent, you have to deal w/ the dirt', so that's what we did. it was easier to paint over the dirty walls then try to get them clean. he pretty much lets us do what we want w/ the walls.

i dream someday of having my own house, to really do as I like, but it will prly have flowered wallpaper, and we prly won't have the money to replace it, or something like that:-)

delsgirl Thanks Michelle, I LoVE your pictures! I esp like the blue in your living room.
We got our painting done here the last two days. It's nothing fancy but I'll try posting a few pics. I love how it turned out. Thanks for all your ideas! Oh I just remembered I need to upload my pictures first, so I'll put them in my next post so I don't have to write this all over again. :D

delsgirl The kids room before...

...and after.

Our room before.

After. Still not sure what to use for decor/accents. It's a rather bold color that doesn't go with just anything.

I'm planning to take the closet door off and just hang a curtain there.

Any other photos/comments are still welcome. I love to see other people's ideas.
