The utterly hilarious but very entertaining Music From The Elder needs a mention. Also the revolutionary Computer World and Movement, one of the great power-pop metal albums Too Fast For Love, the searing Odyshape and one of the great Prince albums, Controversy.
I vote for the first from the band of the 80's for me, Minutemen. All it takes is 45 seconds of Search to know what the deal is. |

sorry ozzy and minutemen, i'm sticking with fluid sax of john lurie, and even more to the crazy guitar tones arto lindsay gets on "the lounge lizards."
wish there were more info on what equipment arto was using. |

Flowers Of Romance. It holds up better than it's got any right to, looks like my pick among this lot. |

No vote - damn. I'll check out the Minutemen album though - i love Double Nickels..! |

"Movement" for me. New Order are one of the best and most unsung heroes of the 80s -- more people should love them. They wrote some unbelievably great songs, and were electronic music pioneers.
Almost voted for Kraftwerk. And "Music From The Elder." |

No, I dig Elder a hell of a lot, but I hope everyone at least has a sense of humour about it. I mean, Just A Boy? |

Police. Yeah I know, I know... but I actually like the horns and synth! |

It's a cool song. It's like a metal fairytale. I like the whole record. Its an adventure. Ace rips a couple hum-dinger solos too. |

Sure that's Ace?
I think the parts that are really metal, like The Oath and Escape From The Island are great. The problem is that most of it sounds SO prog-light, Moodies light.
And of course World Without Heroes is unbelievably great. |

Escape is Ace. World Without Heroes is Paul's best solo, meshed with Gene's most touching vocal.
Dark Light started as Don't Run for Ace back in about 1972. The Elder version is much better than the demo, mostly due to Eric Carr.
Under The Rose is intense and Mr. Blackwell succeeds in its creepiness.
They may have winked a couple of times when they were recording it, but everything, including Just A Boy, was meant deadly serious. That's part of its charm. |

Oh definitely, but the same is true of Reefer Madness. |

New Order Movement here. Although I wish it had Ceremony on it, which is probably better than God Only Knows with about a 10th of the notes. |

BOLD STATEMENT. I almost agree. Almost. It is a magnificent song.

Annie Christian wanted 2 be number one
But her kingdom never comes Thy will be done
She couldn't stand the glory she would be second 2 none
The way Annie tells the story she's His only Son
Annie Christian wanted 2 be a big star
So she moved 2 Atlanta and she bought a blue car
She killed black children and what's fair is fair
If U try and say U're crazy everybody say, "Electric chair!"
Annie Christian was a whore always lookin' 4 some fun
Being good was such a bore so she bought a gun
She killed John Lennon shot him down cold
She tried 2 kill Reagan everybody say, "Gun control!"
"Liar, liar, liar!" gotcha in a jam
Put your head on the block somebody say, "ABSCAM!"
Annie Christian, Anti-Christ
Until U're crucified
I'll live my life in taxicabs
Annie Christian, Anti-Christ
Until U're crucified
I'll live my life in taxicabs
Odyshape second. I like Movement but I think it's their most uneven LP after LowLife. But you can't really blame them for choking a bit right after Curtis left them. At least Ceremony ended up on Substance and in their live shows. |
