Hamish was due to play the 606 on Monday but has to be in Belgium so has pulled out. Steve Rubie has asked Soul Reality (Johanna Harman, Terry Lewis et al) to fill their shoes (we're very good, I think as musicians we're a match or better than most - AWB included - but we won't come close to getting it down like Hamish gets it down). But it does mean we get to play with Hamish's (and many other famous peoples guitar player Adam Phillips who, I believe, is gonna sit with us). Maybe I'll get Jo to sing 'Person To Person' in honour of the great man!

I keep telling her shes a lucky girl sharing a stage with these talents (Klyde and Fred last week, Adam hillips next week). I think she appreciates it (even if at 25 she had no real prior knowledge of these people!) and, she's got those raw soul/blues pipes to more than carry it all off.

I think Hamish is having or had a big...gig this weekend. Of course......his on again off again web site is not working. Did anyone...on this forum go to that gig.....Id love a report. I keep thinkin and hopin for at least a "live" album from him. And this would have been a great opportunity for something like that.

Quite, quite exceptional - he had Ralph Salmins and Graham Harvey among the musicians there with him so you can understand the quality we are talking about

Of AWB tracks he played Atlantic Avenue, Whatch Ya Gonna Do, Person to Person, Queen of My Soul and encored with Pieces.

Unspoken Love, Let's Stay Together, The Circle Game (Joni Mitchell) and oldie from the 40's Some Other Time which he had ''Donny Hathaway'd a bit'' and Ray Charles Just for the Thrill were also in there and his Muhammed Ali tribute song.

Courtesy of Molly's sister Shirley I also got to meet the great man and the band after.

Having seen H play dozens of times - albeit not so much recently - and the one word I wuld use about him and his band is exactly that described above ..ie quality.

As you may know, I'm lucky enough to run a young soul collective and, amongst other things, we actually now have a residency at the 606 where Hamish plays each month. Although we like to think we're pretty good - and we got a pretty A class line up when we open for AWB iin Brighton - and can hold our own with pretty much any other band, anywhere, any place ...we openly acknowledge we ain't nowhere near as good as the Hamish Stuart band, They are in a different league...they are just everything an organic groove band could want to be and certainly the benchmark for all to strive for.

Our PR blurb states we are a 'collective of young soul musicians influenced and inspired by not only the American greats but also by UK artists like Hamish Stuart and Lewis Taylor' and that's totally the truth. Some of Hamish's band see our shows from time to time and say nice things about us...and as i say we're pretty good. But we also know HSB are the industry standard and, well, the best!

Grant,

One of the posse called me early this morning and told me about your message and he and I agreed -- You just described the perfect Saturday night for an AWB fan, and/or a fan of Soul and R&B, period. To be able to see and hear Hamish Stuart singing Atlantic Avenue or Whatch Gonna Do --AND-- "Queen of my Soul" (It's the song I think about when I think of Hamish) -- Hey Grant that experience had to be PRICELESS?! What an amazing concert that must've been?

IF-IF-IF Hamish ever makes it over to this side of the pond, I would willingly pay a king's ransom to see his show.

I also continue to believe that the very fact that Hamish dips into his AWB past with such gusto to pull out gems such as Queen of my Soul and others, tells me his affinity for AWB is unshakeable regardless of his feelings about ever doing a reunion gig.

While I have a deep appreciation for Eliot Lewis and Klyde Jones and the excellent work they did - and are still doing, there remains just one Hamish.

He is the signature voice and the timeless voice of AWB.
