Magnolia April 26th, 2011 05:35 PM | I raised cucumbers in a big flower pot on my deck. I stuck a tomato cage over it so the cucumber vines could go up over it. I did the same thing with peas -- in a flower pot with a tomato cage in it. My girls loved it... they'd pick them and eat them right away. |
twofus April 26th, 2011 03:30 PM | Check out the gardening section at Barnes and Noble. A lot of gardeners mix edibles and flowers in their container gardens. Absolutely gorgeous!!!
I'm planting tomatoes in 5-gallon buckets this afternoon.
You can plant a potato plant/seedling/whatever-you-call-them in the bottom of a barrel. Every time you see the plant, cover it with a layer of soil. When you reach the top, you can dump the barrel and you should have a barrel full of potatoes.
Check out these --tomato planters--. |
bpchecker April 26th, 2011 03:29 PM | last year I grew my lettuce and radishes in flower pots on my patio and it worked great. I kept planting more lettuce as I harvested it. I really liked it! |
esther_lynn April 26th, 2011 03:20 PM | I have a friend who grew tomatoes in a 5-gallon pail. I don't know a lot about it, but I think it worked fairly well. |
citymama April 26th, 2011 03:10 PM | Okay so now that it is garden time, does anyone have any ideas on this subject? We live in the city and I'd really like to try doing some lettuce at least. I'd love to get any input since I've never really done much gardening ever. |
mom2one February 10th, 2010 09:03 PM | I know it's the middle of winter, but I'm getting spring-fever. Right now it's not looking promising to have a 'regular' garden this summer and I'm considering container gardening. I am curious if anyone has experience in that? I would love to hear tips, advice or books that you would recommend to read. |
