Posted February 28th, 2011 11:01 AM IP I'm sure I'm not the only one on here waiting for her next installment. Go here if you haven't read any yet. (And be prepared to be 'busy' for half hr or hour.)
What has stuck out to you or challenged you the most from her story?
I think it's amazing how her parents didn't try to push their agenda but pointed her to Jesus. I would love to be that kind of mom when my children get to be that age. I know it starts now and pointing all their problems now to Him. That is A LOT of trust in God and your child to not interfere, but I'm sure it makes the relationship between God and the child so much richer.
I also wonder if she wasn't mature spiritually at 18 than I am at 28?! Just proof that God works on all of us at different speeds. Liz

John and I were reading part 11 yesterday and he was also amazed at her maturity...her journal entries at 18 were amazing. I was also impressed at her parents! That is how I want to parent. The family her husband came from was influenced a lot by Bill G. I am sure. It sounds all too familiar from some stuff my parents believed at one time.
I loved yesterdays paragraph on Marriage. Rachal

Posted March 15th, 2011 06:15 PM IP i don't want her to stop. i really wish to know what all went on after they were married! It almost made me angry when she said about giving up her dream of a beach wedding. Who dictates when and where a couple is to get married?!?! I would have not been so gracious, i think.
Is Bill G's organization ATI? I kinda forget.
I know someone who knows her, 7 degrees of seperation:-) but yeah, wonder what kind of backlash she is getting for writing all this...

Posted March 15th, 2011 06:25 PM IP She never said though if they did get married in Alabama. I can't wait for the next part so see what happens with the wedding. How weird for her fiance's family to plan the date and decide that they're getting married in Alabama. I would have been huffin mad!
I'm also curious how his parents treat them today. Have they changed their way of thinking? Or do they criticize them? This is the first I've read her blog so maybe she's mentioned his parents before and I missed it. Michelle

Posted March 16th, 2011 08:42 AM IP Is ATI the organization she is talking about? I never saw a name, and wondered what organization it was. Sorta sounds like some Michael Pearlites too. -Janelle

Posted March 16th, 2011 10:15 AM IP I am almost positive because of the kind of situations and beliefs she is describing. And the pictures of the girls attending a conference of some type...typical dress. My husbands parents were very much into ATI (They were even home schooled with ATI material) and my parents were involved to a lesser degree. Sound's all too familiar. I could be wrong though about which one she is referring to. I don't want to get involved in a discussion about ATI or The Pearl's. Rachal

Posted March 16th, 2011 10:14 PM IP Yeah, it is ATI. I think she said that in the comments somewhere...
Not to be gossipy here, but my friend, who knows her personally, as in IRL:-) said his parents are pretty high up the food chain in the organization. also preatty wealthy. R & A were pretty tied to them until I think as recently as Brighton, about the time she started blogging, is when they made a break from them and the organization. Which is why they lived in very meager housing around that time, because all their money had been in the family business ect. so they didn't get any of it. So they basically had to start from scratch. And yes, my friend says she is prly getting reprocussions from writing this story.
I really really wish I could know more of their story, it just intrigues me to no end....is that bad?

Posted March 18th, 2011 02:53 PM IP She seems like she is trying to state what happened without trying to slam his parents. What a thing for a girl to go through who has all her hopes and dreams of what she wants at her wedding. Liz
