Posted July 25th, 2007 09:48 AM IP For those who sew their own dresses, let's share some ideas. I get tired of doing the same thing dress after dress, yet I don't want to do something really time-consuming. For instance, I would love to have a dress with buttons all the way down the front, but I do NOT have the time or patience for sewing all those buttonholes. So, what do you do to "spice up" a dress?
Right now, I am sewing a denim dress. When I pulled it out of the dryer after pre-shrinking it, it had this lovely fringe around the edges. At first I thought, "Great, now I'll have to zigzag all the seams because I don't have a serger!" Then, I looked at the fringe again, and thought how cool that would look along the bottom of the skirt and sleeves. And it's so simple to fray fabric! I'll let you know how it turns out. Mom of two

Posted August 6th, 2007 10:47 PM IP This may sound cheezy but I often make jumpers that are spose to have buttons down the front but I don't have a button holer and it's too expensive to hire somoene to do it so i just sew the opening closed and sew buttons on top. That may not be the way you want to do but for me it's a 'jewel."
