Posted March 16th, 2009 04:22 PM IP I am looking for a simple pattern for my daughter, age 8. I want it to be a little high wasted and then just a simple 3 piece skirt with a little gore. Do you moms with daughters have patterns you really like that are quick and easy to sew up? Cathy

Posted March 16th, 2009 09:58 PM IP I have one too, I love it! It's my main pattern.
I'm trying to think if I would have a size 8...I'd have to check. Would you want a copy? ~rosalyn~

Posted March 17th, 2009 06:48 AM IP Are these homemade patterns or do you have a name and number? Yes, I would love to see pictures. Kara is 8 but some patterns I have to cut a 10 to make it so she can wear it a while. Cathy

Posted March 17th, 2009 07:13 AM IP both! I know my homemade pattern is not a size 8. My boughten pattern is the one I was thinking I have a larger size. That one is not actually a 3 piece skirt, it's supposed to have more gores, but I overlap the skirt pieces and just cut it as 3. ~rosalyn~

Posted March 17th, 2009 07:44 AM IP I would be intersted Rosalyn. Is it easy to make it bigger? Where did you get the pattern?
Never thought of overlapping the skirt pieces so there aren't as many. Smart. Cathy

Posted March 17th, 2009 09:59 AM IP Ok, my favorite pattern is "New Look" 6741, it goes up to size 9, and the measurements for that are chest 27, waist 23.75, height 53. However, I have made a few adjustments to this pattern (overlapped the skirt, and another thing, the waist line is rounded up, and I straightened it out a little). I do have another pattern that is similar, except the bodice is princess style, it's more intended for flower girls, but I think it could still work. That pattern is McCalls #2020 (size 4,5,6) and #2021 (size 12,14,16), so I don't really have the size you need. I have already searched McCalls' website for patterns, I think you can see online. Or, sometimes there are patterns on eBay.
Cathy, I will gladly copy off a pattern and mail it to you, if I have one that is what you want! OK, I just looked at my New Look pattern and I see that it is cut out on the 7, but I think you could probably make it a little bigger and have an 8 or a 9 (it has a 5/8" seam allowance).
Let me know! ~rosalyn~

Posted March 17th, 2009 12:12 PM IP I have the New Look 6741 and I like the idea of overlapping the pattern pieces so you don't have as many skirt pieces.
I got a dress given from a friend that has a higher waist, straight and has small darts sewn in the bodice both front and back and I really like it. I emailed her, so hopefully she can help me out.

Posted March 18th, 2009 11:30 AM IP Cathy sounds to me like you need McCalls 4763. That is all I use for my 6 year old, the pattern is a flower girl pattern & is sleeveless. I sew sleeves in it of course, just using whatever sleeve pattern I like. It is a higher waisted bodice with darts & has a straight skirt. The skirt is full enough around the bottom, but not huge like some straight dresses are. The pattern I have is sizes 3-6 but it is also available in bigger sizes. Posted March 18th, 2009 01:08 PM IP Thanks, Mariann. I'll have to check that out. I've been trying hard this morning to lay out this dress that was given to me and try to make a pattern off of the pieces. Kinda hard.
What do you do with the big necks on the girls patterns? Do you cut them out smaller? Cathy

If I have a neckline from another pattern that is the way I like them I lay that over the "big neck" pattern & cut the opening smaller. Mariann married to the love of my life ~ Dale ~
