Posted May 1st, 2012 07:34 PM IP I didn't know where to put this, so here it is. When I have my c-section, we're planning to have a youth girl come several days a week to help me. What do you pay per hour?? Basically, she'll be helping with the children, laundry and keeping the house cleaned up. It may be only a couple hours, several days a week. We want to pay her, but have no idea what is fair. Amber

Posted May 1st, 2012 08:07 PM IP Great Question! I've often wondered the same thing. Also wondering if buying them something useful like a set of kettles or dishes or some future house item could be considered nice payment.....

That would likely vary from person to person. I would have rather had money as a teenager . I have no idea on the price. ~Monica, wife to Eldon and mama to Makayla and Michael and Emily

Posted May 2nd, 2012 01:29 PM IP I know what we pay our help, but I think it depends on the situation. We pay $10+/hr. She has been helping me clean for several years now and works like a storm. We both do. I didn't even have a baby, but because I was working many hours in the barn and a huge house, I was very stressed. Things are much better now, but my husband doesn't let me talk about her not coming.
I am really hoping that with my big children we won't need more than once a week for a couple weeks and then back to every other week again.
For baby help around here, I have heard others pay $30/day(more or less) and it is usually a young teenager. amy

Posted May 2nd, 2012 01:47 PM IP When I was 16 I helped someone after a baby 2-3 times a week for about 3 weeks and was paid $250. For a 16 year old (however many years ago...) that's pretty good I'd say but I don't know what people pay these days. As a teen I'm sure I would rather have had money too. Posted May 2nd, 2012 02:14 PM IP Thanks for the input! She says she doesn't want to be paid, but we absolutely won't let her work for nothing. She's wonderful with children, responsible, and a will be a great help so I want to make it worth her time and don't want her to feel like we're taking advantage of her. I was thinking prob. around $10/hour but wanted to see what others pay. Amber

Posted May 2nd, 2012 03:26 PM IP The girl that helped me also said she doesn't want pay, except to cover gas. (she lived about 20 miles away) We were not comfortable with not paying, so she got $30 a day. The first week or two that was for an 8 hr day, later when she would come to quickly clean the house, we still gave her $30. It is such a blessing to have willing help!! She acted like it was more than she wanted, at first, but I thought she earned every bit! Nancy, wife to Jason, mom to Mia Nicole, Jenna Lynn and Ryan Andrew

Posted May 2nd, 2012 03:41 PM IP I give my cleaning girl (upper teens) $10 an hour with a little extra. About $35 for 3 hours or so. This is her second time helping me - the first time it was a little less. Glad I am not way off. Sylvia - mom to five - Ana-13, Adria-9, Jacob-6, Caleb-2, Isaac-1

Posted May 2nd, 2012 05:59 PM IP I have an upper teens girl that cleans for me. Takes her about 1 1/2 hrs & she charges me $15.00. It's so nice to have it done & I can do the deeper cleaning stuff as I get time. At least my floors get swept & mopped once a week & the dusting gets done. Especially now that I've had the baby & can't seem to get anything done! Wife of Micah ~

Posted May 2nd, 2012 08:20 PM IP Whew, now I don't feel like such a bad Mennonite lady for not doing my own cleaning. With homeschooling one and running another one to therapy, etc., that's one of the easiest things to let go. Mom of two
