This is hardly a "medical need" but I didn't know where else to put it.

#1. Have any of you had boys with testicles that did not descend?

#2. Have you ever recircumcised your son? Agh. That sounds all wrong. George was circ'ed but it was not a good job. Sad. Anyone who sees him wonders if he is circ'ed. It is terribly hard to keep clean. He is sore more than not bc It is nearly impossible to keep clean.

#3. If you dont cir. your boys, how do you keep them clean, not sore and teach them to stay clean???

I had a cousin that had a baby with #1. They had to do surgery to correct it. He was in terrible pain, etc. Not sure how old he was...

We experienced #2. The Dr. that did it, did not take enough off and we had it redone when he was a yr. old. They had to put him to sleep, etc. Paul says we would never do it again. It cost over $3,000 (and we got a discount for paying cash) and in his opinion, it wasn't necessary to put him through that. But i have no advice for keeping it clean, etc.

My husbands youngest brother had #1 & they did surgery to fix it. He was older when they did it, as in not a baby or toddler. My two foster boys in Thailand weren't circumcised and the lady over us said to just wash like normal, that it doesn't need to be pulled back & cleaned till they are old enough to do it themselves. Then after I left, the lil guy that was still there kept getting urinary tract infections so they ended up circumcising him. He was 4 yrs old & they didn't put him to sleep!!!! My friend that was taking care of him said she could hear him screaming from where she was out in the waiting room. He laid on the couch for at least 3 or 4 days & didn't want to move cause it hurt so bad & even a couple of weeks after that would be very careful when he played so he didn't bump it.

For what it's worth: I've also heard that if you wait to circ. until they're a man, they'll be off of work for a week.

I know a guy who was circ. after he got married. He laid on the couch for a week and was about 6 weeks till his life was "normal".

Natalie, did they not get sore?

Amber, if you had to have a surgery anyway, would you do it again??

G is forever picking at his penis. He picks at his diaper even. If he is the least bit sore looking I can tell it before I even take his diaper off by how he digs at it. The skin around the head (I called it foreskin but got called down for that bc they took it off. whatever it is...)covers the head is always iritated and the head sometimes looks like the skin is almost broken. He does not have any other diaper rash or anything.

I know that we have a surgery ahead of us to fix his testicle. i know it's not fun but I think the benefits outweigh the risks.

I am looking for good ways to keep him from being so sore.

Jessica if you have testicle surgery ahead of you could you do both at one time?
Usually they don't have trouble keeping an uncirc'd penis clean until they are older and can actually pull the foreskin back. Adam had a very nice circ done; but still ended up w/ adhesions twice due to my negligence. My pediatrician said to always pull the skin that is left back firmly at every bath. Don't tear but be firm. Adam didn't like it at all when he was a baby but when I didn't bother for awhile and he ended up w/ an adhesion which the Dr. simply had to 'pry" back and tear, I was very sorry I spared him minor discomfort for pain. Shame on me it happened twice. He said by the time he's a little older I won't have to worry about it b/c Adam will be pulling and tugging on it himself. Ahem. I guess he didn't know that would be a no no. Anyhow, it has pretty much self-resolved since he's older (whether that's due to being out of wet diapers or just otherwise I don't know) although I still try to be pretty careful w/ his baths.
Whether or not to circ could probably be some huge debate and I won't go there. Except to say that you do NOT want to see what happens to a man who has not been and who has heart failure and lies in bed with edema. The situation worsens tenfold if the man has been homeless, not had a shower in awhile, and has adhesions and infection from not being clean. It is a very, very ugly situation I would not wish upon my worst enemy.
I really hope you find some answers soon. That sounds miserable.

No, my boys never got sore other than an occasional diaper rash from heat & stuff. Maybe because they never had anything done where George has & that may cause irritation. I don't know. All this talk makes me glad I'm having another girl. =) Yeah, I have heard that you def don't want to have it done when you are older. I know my gramps has serious issues because he wasn't. Problems with it growing shut, etc.

We never had any trouble with Dylan's circ, but Zachary did have adhesions when he was a baby. I took him to his pediatrician & he said just to pull the skin back as far as I could every time I changed his diaper, but not to force it. I was very skeptical when he said it would correct on its own if I do that, but amazingly it did. It took a long time, but he's fine now. Fortunately, it never seemed to be painful for him.

Jessica, have you tried to keep vaseline on it like they say to do right after circumcision? I too have had some trouble with my baby boys, I guess you call it adhesions. They would get all sore & red looking , but once I pulled the skin back the way I was supposed too & kept it real clean they would heal up fast. Once they get about a year old they didn't have near the problems they did earlier!

I have found that the only thing thaqt helps is pulling the skin clear back and putting diaper rash cream on the whole area every time I change him.

My, was I lucky with my son! We had his done at 8 days old and never had a problem. It did look a little ragged around the edges but healed up fine. I was very particular about keeping vaseline and a pad of gauze on it for most of a week. I wasn't about to let anyone else change his diaper until it was healed.
We are planning to do it again if our next baby is a boy. My husband's parents were very particular about having it done, and my husband is thankful today that they did. He feels it helps with purity issues after a man is older, as he knows of a single man who wasn't and has had all kinds of problems with personal purity. Guess the foreskin rubbing can cause stimulation. Or maybe the cleaning part.
Michelle, the situation you described are absolutely pitiful! But I can see how it can happen.

the single man needs his heart circumcised more than any other body part.

i'm not looking for a huge debate either, but i'm not embarrassed that we chose not circumcise our boys. to me there isn't a right or wrong about it. personal preference. neither of them have any trouble with irritation or cleanliness. it doesn't retract until they are older. and then i guess it's just like teaching them how to clean other hard to clean places on their body.

I think the not retracting till they are older is the key to no irritation...
