Posted May 8th, 2012 07:17 PM IPToday - new reissue of the Small Faces Ogdens Nut Gone Flake. Just played the mono version today, which didn't sound earth shatteringly better in the way some mono albums do. Played Rubber Soul the other day and realised I wish I had that in mono. The Dylan box has convinced me that mono is way better for pre 68 stuff. I suspect Ogdens may just be a better stereo album though. I'll let you know.
Wish they'd put it out in a circular sleeve though like the original.
Posted May 8th, 2012 07:22 PM IPThe past few days while out running, I have found myself hitting repeat when Uptown Girl came on my iPod--which may be enough for you to mock me right there.
But here's the thing: I'm really, really into it right now. A lot. I keep thinking, what is it I didn't like about it between when I first heard it as a kid (but shortly after rejected it and all Billy Joel and, frankly, all non hair metal or hip hop) and the past few months.
Is it me? Am I sick? Or is that actually a really good song? I say it's a good song. (And maybe I'm also sick.) I'd give my right pinky to have written that "whoa oh oh" etc part.yes.

Posted May 11th, 2012 01:46 PM IPJust listened to the stereo Ogdens Nut Gone Flake and my hunch was right - WAY better in stereo. Don't know how it compares to all the other versions out there but it sounds perfect to me. Mono sounds too closed in for this album which is nice and spacey.
Posted May 12th, 2012 07:07 PM IPI got the new Rufus Wainwright. Listening to that now. I know Jon said it was cool and I previewed the tracks and liked them. yes.

Posted May 16th, 2012 10:03 AM IPGot a day off so I'm wandering around record shops in London. Just in FOPP and they were playing Stephen Stills 2. I have always sort of ignored it for some reason despite the fact it's before his cut off point, and damn me it sounded really really good. And so dear reader I bought it.
Also got a copy of Stars and Bars on CD at last as all my vinyl is virtually impossible to find now I've had to move it into a cupboard, and a 'new' Leonard Cohen live album from 1993 as UK companies continue to Hoover up US radio shows and release them because they now can. I'm not complaining, lots of good stuff hitting the shelves in good quality CDs.

Posted May 16th, 2012 06:50 PM IPWhile I was out for a run--an abominable pastime whose only benefit is that it is better than the premature heart attack I'd be sure to suffer if I didn't do it, drunken fuck (not to mention food lover) that I am, I had a great string of musical luck come up in shuffle.
- Roadrunner, Modern Lovers
- Sound and Vision, David Bowie
- Rumour Has It, Adele,
- Come and Get It, Eli Paperboy Reed
- Back in the New York Groove, Ace Frehley
- I'm a Cuckoo, Belle & Sebastian
There were other things before and after, of course, but that particular run of songs was fantastic. Great running songs, all.yes.
Posted May 18th, 2012 10:30 AM IPI took today off and am thinking I'll do some good listening (and maybe writing/recording). Right now, Billie Holiday, Lady in Satin and coffee.yes.

Posted May 19th, 2012 05:54 PM IPQuick search doesn't show anything on this, so ... anyone listen to the new Adam Lambert album yet? It came out the 11th; I am just listening to previews now because it was featured on iTunes's front page.
Got to say, some of this sounds pretty impressive.yes.

Posted May 19th, 2012 07:35 PM IPSome great new hip hop with Dr Lecter by Action Bronson. Great samples and beats, fast and furious rapping. Quality stuff, no self-indulgence.
"The other thing is that the quality of the mp3's I listen to varies especially as some of the music from the likes of Led Zeppelin is old, even with re-mastering still isnt up to the quality of the likes of Def Leppard."
